The Realm Of Omniscience
Italics are Arthur's thoughts, interest inspired.
Arthur was in the library doing some research because Merlin wasn't around to do it for him. Other servants just didn't do the research well. So he took precious time and started looking.
To be fair, this excuse had gotten him out of a rather boring matter that he didn't have to be there for. They just preferred him there. Even if he didn't say a single thing.
Arthur was in a hidden section Geoffrey had showed him. There were a few magical books stored there in case they were ever needed by the king. Well Arthur wasn't the king yet, but nevertheless he was allowed in.
So there he was going through book after book trying to find useful information on what Nimuah had supposedly done to conjure his mother. It was taking longer than usual due to his raven haired friend not being there to help him.
Speaking of Merlin, Arthur was beginning to wonder when he'd come back exactly. The boy had gone on a trip to try to find a sibling he'd just learned about. Apparently the sibling was on his dad's side, that was why he'd never heard of him. At the time Merlin had said he'd be gone for about three months, maybe a bit more of less depending on what happened. Arthur had refused to let Merlin go, but Uther had been around. Uther had told Arthur that he could survive a few months without Merlin. Somehow Uther had seen how clingy Arthur had become to his servant, and decided to see how they would do apart for some time.
Now, he was stuck going through a dusty hidden room all by himself. There were a few footprints, along with a spot that had far less dust than other spots. The room was rather messy, almost like there was a brief fight, or commotion. Wondering what had happened was something Arthur did when he switched books. That was not often.
Finding information was definitely not Arthur's specialty, but from what he'd read so far, it seemed Nimuah had told the truth. Despite the research he'd done, he remembered Merlin's words and kept searching more.
Switching books for probably the fortieth time, he attempted to grab a large book. The book seemed to erode as he grabbed it, and soon it was replaced by a pile of dust. Amazed by this discovery, Arthur took a better look. There was something behind it. He never would've noticed it if the book hadn't eroded like that.
Slipping his hand over the dust, he avoided getting any on his shirt so he wouldn't have to ask George to clean it later. Arthur wanted to avoid as many run ins with George as possible. This month he'd learned how to put on his own armour, dress himself, and had become good friends with the cook. The cook was far better to be around then George.
Grabbing gently at the hidden object, he managed to pull it out keeping both it, and his shirt clean. The object was a small silvery book. It seemed to be glowing. Arthur could not take his eyes off of it. The detailed spine of the book, to the fancy writing on the front, simply drew his attention. The cover read 'open to learn the things you need to know'. That drew his attention more than the details. Would this book actually give him the answers he needed? He was about to find out.
Flipping the hard cover, he found a small warning. 'Those who look further may not find the answers they seek, yet they often don't turn their cheek at what comes to mind.' Whatever that means anyway, Arthur thought.
Now more curious than before, he eagerly opened to the next page. There was a handprint with a few runes and patterns going over it. Arthur had a sudden want... no, a need to place his hand on the handprint. So he did. Everything went black.
............
Waking, Arthur slowly opened his eyes to view his surroundings. The walls were covered in an arrangement of jems and a glowing silver. Just as the one from the book. Wait... The book? The last thing I remember is putting my hand on the... Was the book magical?
"Welcome to The Realm Of Omniscience! I am Sagacious, and you are Arthur Pendragon, yes?"
Turning to look for the voice, Arthur found a young girl in overalls.
"Yes I am. Where are we Sagacious?" Arthur asked while shuffling his feet.
The girl laughed. "Why I've already told you! The Realm Of Omniscience! There's no need to be nervous Pendragon. I'm simply going to show you what you need to know before you go back to Camelot!"
"Wait wha-"
It was too late. The girl had started chanting a few words. When she finished, Arthur felt the world spin before he landed roughly in a small hut. Magic! She could tell me what really happened!
It seemed he would not get the chance to ask at the moment though, because the girl was no where to be seen. Instead he found a small hut he recognized. Arthur couldn't recall from where. There was a doctor leaving through the front door.
"Come find me if you need anything. Have a good day ma'am," he shouted right before leaving. He seemed to have better things to do.
Arthur entered the bedroom and found a lady with a newborn baby. The baby had dark hair, and was looking up in fascination at his smiling mother.
"I am going to do everything in my power to give you the best life you can get," she muttered lovingly. It was an adorable moment. When Arthur saw the woman's face, he recognized her, but much like the hut, he didn't know where from.
That was when the baby's eyes glowed golden causing a toy to fall within his reach. Both Arthur and the woman gasped.
This boy had magic since the day he was born? I didn't know that was possible!
"So you're like your father then huh? I'm going to have to keep you out of trouble young man," She joked in a soft tone.
That was when he heard soft chanting, and he was whisked away.
.........
N
ow Arthur found himself in a new setting. He was in a forest. There were birds faintly chirping, and there was another noise. The noise was getting louder which meant whatever it was, it was getting closer.
Soon enough Arthur recognized it as kids playing. Two boys lept out of a bush giggling before falling over. One with raven hair, and a small thin frame, and the other was a rather bulky brown haired boy.
"C'mon Goldie! You should do another trick!" The bulky boy shouted enthusiastically.
Nodding, the raven haired boy's eyes turned gold. A small sapling grew four meters taller in mere seconds. They all stared in awe. This must be the boy I saw earlier. Who is this boy?
They both giggled.
"I always knew you were freak!" A new, and older voice came into the mix. Immediately the two boys stood to find a group of older boys staring a them.
"Don't call him that! It's mean!" The boy that came in giggling with 'Goldie' yelled.
"Will, you shouldn't hang around losers like this!"
He was about to protest before the raven haired boy stopped him and whispered something in his ear. Will reluctantly left his friend.
When Will was gone, Merlin sighed. "Just get it over with."
That's when the group of older boys sprang forward and began to beat him.
Before Arthur could do anything, there was chanting. Once again Arthur was whisked away. Arthur saw many more memories, and saw the boy age. He looked familiar. As he watched, he soon realized. Merlin.
.......
The next memory came rather swiftly. It was Merlin coming to Camelot. Y'all know what happens.
Arthur watched on as time after time Merlin saved his life. Never asking for thanks, or anything in return. Steadily he also saw why Merlin hadn't told him.
When it came to the part with Nimuah and his mother, Arthur got to see Merlin's perspective, and reasoning. It became quite clear.
With another soft chant, Arthur felt himself drift before everything went black.
.......
Arthur was now back in the library. He was still holding the book, but now he had the answers he needed.
"Thank you Sagacious," Arthur whispered to the book before hiding it again.
.......
A week ago Arthur had found the book and seen everything from Merlin's perspective. Today, Arthur saw Merlin come through the gates. His excitement had reached a new level. Today was the day that Merlin could truly trust him as much as Arthur trusted him. They'd be equals. Well besides the Prince and servant part.
Merlin could finally stop worrying about Arthur finding out his secret.
