lost
Merlin loses his model dragon from his father. Awesome idea from Emxluiza .
Also, this went totally off the original request, so I may redo request. I ended up getting sidetracked and found a different way the idea could go.
"Where is it? Where is it! Where is it!"
At the moment, Merlin's room looked like there had been an explosion. Ever since he got back, he had been searching frantically trying to find it. Merlin was looking for a carved wooden dragon.
So far, he'd looked in every hole he hid things in, on the floor, under things, through cupboards, under and in every sock. Merlin was desperate. Where was it?
At some point, Gaius had informed him that there had been a room search for magical objects, and that "You really should be more careful about where you put your magical book!" He had done this while the door was open too. Brilliant Gaius. Brilliant. Maybe Arthur could've come by and heard it. They'd have a party celebrating Merlin coming out. (Ma terrible puns. Sorry)
Unfortunately for Merlin, he didn't get a chance to keep looking. A boy burst through the door and imformed him that Gwaine was trying to stop a riot while being extremly drunk. The boy informed him that it wasn't working very well.
Living within Camelot and working for the Prince who nearly died everyday, left lots of responsibility on Merlin's shoulders. If Merlin didn't have magical abilities, he was fairly sure Arthur wouldn't be alive. In fact, Merlin often wondered how Prince prat survived before Merlin worked for him.
When Merlin arrived, he found a mess. There were pitch forks, men yelling, and there were a few fires going.
Camelot's knights hadn't arrived on the scene yet, and Merlin meant to keep it that way. First though, he had to find Gwaine, who had probably started this whole mess.
Moving through the crowd was difficult. Everyone was gathering, bringing material to use, or just straight up being hostile for no reason. It was quite loud.
As Merlin moved through the crowd, he gained some knowledge on why there was a riot, and what some were thinking of doing. One man was drunkenly shouting about Uther paying for making him lose his loved ones. There was a group of females chanting 'Let magic back in! Let magic back in! Let magic back-'. A discussion was going on about the best way into the castle in a large group of people.
When he got to the center, guess who Merlin found.
I'm sure you guessed it. Gwaine. I mean, who else would be at the center of it all? He hadn't started it, but he'd been incouraging it. Gwaine had never liked Uther.
"Well you know what Uther's ordered in the past? There was a group of Druid children not even at the young age of six, and Uther ordered them all dead on sight!" Gwaine slurred. The story caused a large group of people to gasp, before shouting in outrage.
Merlin understood what was going on now. The idiot at the center of it all had had habit of sharing the wrong things. Which seemed to be a habit of his when he'd drunk far too much ale.
There weren't many options at the moment that didn't involve disaster. This was Gwaine we were talking about. The worst case scenario was mass destruction. So Merli went with the one that Merlin thought would case the least damage.
Grabbing Gwaine, Merlin began dragging him out of there. Merlin had told the group that Gwaine had a family emergency at home, and had to leave. They bought it, so be continued pulling a barely standing Gwaine.
When they were about thirty meters away, Gwaine collapsed with a snore. Merlin knew that he had nothing truly valuable on him. Somehow Gwaine's flirtatious behaviour benefited him with free drinks, which caused him to never bring money.
So with Gwaine out of the way, Merlin raced back to the crowd. It's not like Gwaine would really go anywhere. He was a deep sleeper, and all the drama was going on near the castle. The idiot would be fine. Perhaps with a slight... scratch that, large hangover, but fine nevertheless.
When he got back, the crowd had become rowdier and larger. Womderful! In the center, a large cart was suddenly occupied by a woman who looked like she was about to give a speech.
Turned out Merlin was right. After the dark haired lady gained everyone's attention, she began her impromptu speech. "We are gathered here tonight to address an issue that has been left unattended in this kingdom for far too long!" People cheered. Wow they were all very passionate about this.
"Our king has gone insane, and driven a factor that helped us thrive out in the past! Why? I've heard its because Uther made a horrible decision and blamed it on a person with magic. Why does this mean all magic is evil if one person makes the simple mistake of trusting him!" More cheers. Shoot. This had gone too far! Merlin had to find Arthur and protect him.
Merlin bolted toward the castle, which conveniently he knew a way around everybody to get there. He could still faintly hear some of the things this woman said. "Make him pay for his crimes!" Cheering. "Show him what a mistake he made!" The cheering grew louder with each statement. It also sounded like it was coming to a close, so be hurried.
Once he got into the castle, he noticed the large group of people were now behind him. To slow them down, his eyes glowed gold, and the gates closed. Nobody was around to notice. The crowd was still to far. It was fine. Seconds later, there was loud banging on the door.
Swiftly Merlin made it up a few floors before be heard a large bang! They must have made it through already. When the people of Camelot were determined, they would get what they wanted.
There was angered, animalistic screeches, and what sounded like a stampede. Usually Merlin's magic was able to help him, but when he was in close proximity with a large group of people, his magic was off limits. As it might be in this case. That also terrified him. Without Camelot's super super secret weapon, how were they to fight back?
When he arrived in Arthur's room, the first thing he did was lock the doors, and put a large wood rod in the door handles to prevent people from getting in. The second was make sure Arthur was there. He was. He was also sleeping like a baby.
Now he could do one of the following: ~wake Arthur and probably have him fight with the knights. Possibility of death = high.
~Let him sleep and have Arthur mad at him for letting him sleep. He'd probably still wake up when the people were closer on their crazy rampage. Possibility of death = high
~use a spell to keep Arthur asleep. He'd probably realize that he couldn't sleep through something like that and want someone to blame. Possibility of death = low
Before he had the chance to us the spell, the wretched stomping awoke the sleeping beauty. Bolting out of bed he glanced around.
"Merlin? What's happening?" Arthur asked already fully awake. That was a first. Him wakingbup so fast that is.
"A riot of some sort. I believe they're trying to get magic back into the kingdom."
Arthur's eyebrows scrunched togther. "And how do they plan to achieve this?"
"I'm not totally sure, but I believe they're going to force him somehow?"
Arthur's eyes were wide, and he began ordering Merlin around. "Dress me." "Get my boots and my sword."
"Alright, let's go!" Arthur then raced out the door followed by a panicked Merlin.
They were nearby when Merlin stopped Arthur. "How do you think we can get past a large group of people with just the two of us?"
Merlin's question hit its mark, and Arthur realized barging in would be stupid. "Well what do you propose?"
"The air ventilation shafts," Merlin muttered before bolting into a hallway where he knew one to be. Hearing footsteps behind him, Merlin knew Arthur was still there.
When they got there, they pulled the cover off and Arthur led the way in. It turned out they were in the right vent. They came across Uther's room, and could see what was happening.
Arthur had wanted to just jump in, but Merlin had held him back. Thirteen angry citizens against Arthur would not end well. Luckily Arthur was still seeing some reason and listened. So they were stuck in a vent watching, and hoping that they could find an opportunity to help.
"So Uther, we meet again," the dark haired lady who Merlin recognized from giving the speech earlier sneered. Up close they could see more about her. Her beady blue eyes, her large nose, and her greasy black hair.
"Amara?" Uther asked from the corner he was in. Their king stood holding a sword and trembling. Arthur had never seen him like this.
"Now you see the consequencesof your actions, my lord," Amara spoke the title with venom.
Uther whimpered. "How are you still alive?"
"It takes a lot more than a little fire to kill me Uther. Unlike your weak family! Your petty deal with Nimuah ending in the death of your wife, and the creation of a heir due to your own actions. Then you have the audacity to blame it on magic Uther?"
Arthur shuffled and looked back at Merlin, no doubt remembering when he met his mother. He mouthed, "you said she lied?"
Unfortunately, Merlin couldn't truly answer this, and he looked down guiltily.
"Amara, listen! Magic is bad! Haven't you seen the difference there's been since magic was banned?"
Amara snorted. "You make the difference sound like I was a good thing! Far too many people died! For no good reason, other than a powerful man's blame on the very gift they were given!"
"Amara, please-"
"No Uther. You have two options. Allow magic back into the kingdom, then allow your son to take your place as king, or I'll kill you. I will then give your son the option of allowing magic back into the kingdom, or he will be denounced and put in the dungeons. Now choose. Magic back in Camelot, or death!"
"I will not let magic back in my kingdom!"
Amara smirked. "Then you have chosen death." Within the blink of an eye, there was a sword lodged in Uther's heart.
The king was dead.
(I'm sorry, but all I can think about is wizard of oz and "the wicked witch is dead!" Now it's, "the wicks king is dead ")
........
It was two days after the riot. Arthur was now king, and magic was no longer banned. (Gwaine was fine of course.) So far, Arthur refused to leave his room unless there was an incredibly urgent meeting. The poor boy had learned his father was truly a horrid man, seen him die, and been forced to become king without time to cope for even the first one. Let alone all three.
Merlin on the other hand had been going crazy with requests, chores, and many other things. He'd been trying to keep Arthur sane too. Although, he wasn't sure how good of a job he was doing.
The majority of the time, Arthur spent in bed fiddling with something. Merlin hasn't seen what it was yet. He's been far too busy to look into it.
Today, he was cleaning Arthur's room, when Arthur spoke, "Merlin, why did you lie? When my mother told me of the deal my father made to conceive?"
"Well," Merlin began. "During that time you were filled with anger towards the injustices your father had done. You were going to kill him. I knew you would regret that for the rest of your life, so... I lied. I didn't want you to carry the guilt of your father's death for the rest I your life." Merlin refused to look at Arthur as he spoke.
Silence ensued for a while. Merlin continued to sweep.
"I just can't believe he would do that!" Arthur muttered brokenly.
Shortly after Merlin left. He had too many responsibilities, and unfortunately he didn't have time to constantly give Arthur attention.
.......
A week later, Arthur was in the same state. Fiddling with the wooden object in his hands. He needed to snap out of it and quick. Camelot was rumoured to be weak. In reality it was.
People were beginning to doubt their new king. Could he truly be trusted with a kingdom? He hadn't shown it in the past few days.
"Arthur, it's time for training," Merlin informed. Arthur loved training. Training was an opportunity to show off his skill, beat everybody and teach something to others. He knew that usually got him out of bed, but not this week.
"Tell them I won't be there today." Arthur hadn't even looked up.
Merlin had quite enough. He'd been driven insane with chores, a mopey Arthur and he'd barely had ang sleep. Why did Arghur he a week to deal with his father's death? Most people in Camelot had to go back to work the day after a loved ones death to stay financially stable. In fact, Merlin had too. Merlin had been told to get over his father's death by the man who sat I front of him moping. When he caught sight of what Arthur was holding, he couldn't hold back his anger.
"Snap out of it Arthur! Everyone loses people! Everyone learns of betrayal! They have to move on, or at least try to! Your kingdom is in a panicked state worried you will not be enough. Other kingdoms hae noticed the weak state, and surely begun their planning to take over Camelot! You can't just lay there and expect everything to be alright! You are the king! Now act like it!"
Arthur simply loose up with a glare and asked, "have you lost a parent? Last I checked you didn't know your father, and your mother's still alive!"
"Actually, yes I have," Merlin says with a glare. "That wooden dragon you're holding, and took during the room search, was from my father. That is the only thing I have left of my father. I met him, and lost him within a few days. The worst part was that I could have saved him, but due to responsibilities, I couldn't. I panicked when I couldn't find it, but due to certain occurrences, I couldn't look for it either." Merlin sighed. Then he looked at Arthur with a hopeful glance before going back to work.
"But Balinor carved this?" Arthur asked unsurely.
Merlin smiled, and left.
The next day Arthur had many things done and began planning for the future.
Merlin got his wooden dragon back a week later.
The dragon Balinor carved.
Lol, here was my planning for the last bit because I needed sleep and wanted to remember what I had planned. I usually don't plan, so this was rather strange for me.
Arthur play in with Merlin's toy dragon which he took away out of curiosity during room search for magical items. Now hes been playing with it past few days. Finally Arthur talks to Merlin. He talks about how betrayed he feels by his father, and that Merlin lied after Arthur talked to his mother about his father. Merlin explains why he did it. Then he tells Arthur that be needs to get a grip and be king instead of wallowing in self pity. Arthur gets mad and asks if he knows what its like to lose a parent. Then Merlin meekly says yes before indictating to the dragon in his hands and says that was from his father before he died. Arthur gives it back and gets out of bed to do necessary stuff. Ta da! Now put that in better words dummy.
