Unknown memory

Arthur took us to the knight training grounds and gave me and Merlin a sword and a shield each.

"You will be sparing with me so you'll have these. Because I had to get another servant to prepare me, I shall fight you first Merlin." Arthur told us.

I secretly celebrated my achievement.

"While he's doing this though, you'll be watching intently, I want to have a better sparring partner than Merlin. He cannot defend himself if he tried." Arthur said.

"Too bad." I shrugged. "Better than me I guess, cuz I have no memory" way to home it in Arthur.

Arthur was right, Merlin couldn't fight if he tried. Even all the other knights stopped what they were doing to see him fail. Even I found it funny, at first. But then Arthur carried on doing matches with him and him failing, or think it got to Merlin 0 Arthur 50 by the time they stopped. And Arthur wasn't even out of breath.

"Come on over here Starflame" Arthur beckoned me and I walked up to him.

One of the other servants that was my size had given me a pair of worn out trousers, so I could fight. Hefting my sword to a comfortable position in my hand, I put my helmet on and imitated the position that Arthur was in and got ready for him.

Arthur did a few easy moves he'd used on Merlin and I blocked them easily, I'd watched for half an hour him doing it.

The knights cheered him on watching.

"Come on, is this the best you can do?" Arthur asked me.

Frowning I jabbed towards his feet but he blocked it and then the sparring began.

We blocked and struck towards each other but never managing to land a hit. I could tell Arthur was holding back, he wasn't breathing heavily like I.

"Come on, is this the best you can do?" I jeered at him smirking.

"You sure you want me to go all out?" He asked.

"How are you to learn if you do not?" I replied.

"Fine, let's begin." Arthur said and we sparred with more strength than more. I lacked the skill he did and I was more defence than offence but what I lacked in skill, I made up for tactics.

An whistle and shouts of "Stop!" Got me and Arthur to stop.

"Thank you for that spar, I've not been given an good fight like that for a while now." Arthur said.

"No problem, but I'll beat you next time." I grinned shaking his hand that was mandatory.

Walking back into the armory Merlin congratulated me while Arthur went to the toilet.

"You put up a good fight, for a girl" I frowned at this at him "and for not having your memory." He added.

"Well, to be fair, it was mainly instinctual rather than skill." I told him truthfully.

"Yeah right!" Merlin laughed as Arthur came back.

"Merlin, show Starflame to the kitchens and get her to bring me my dinner while you undress me." Arthur said.

"Actually, Gewnevia can." Merlin said directing it to the girl walking past.

"Most certainly, My Lord." She bowed quickly.

"Alright then. Come on Merlin."

"So your Starflame then?" Gwen said as we walked along some steps.

"Yes." I said.

"Do you know how Arthur got a red mark on his cheek? If wasn't there earlier." She asked.

"Actually, that was me." I told her.

"No way! You hit the Prince!" She exclaimed.

"Not knowing he was the Prince in my defense!" I said back.

"How can you possibly not know who he is?" Gwen said.

I had a feeling I was going to become good friends with Gwen.
"Memory loss." I said simply.

Gwen looked at me confused so I explained to her what happened.

"Oh no! You poor thing! I'm glad you hit him though, but don't tell anyone that." She laughed. "You remind me of Merlin a few weeks ago when he first met Arthur."

"Why? What did he do?" I asked curiously.

"He didn't like what Arthur was doing so he fought him. And tried to punch his face." Gwen smiled.

I realised it was a 'you had to be there to understand most of it' memory.

I nodded. "If only he had. He'd knock some sense into him." I said thoughtfully.

Gwen laughed. "You are funny." She said and opened a door to the kitchens. "Here's the kitchens, Arthur's food is made already today so you can just take it." She pointed to a platter on a large tray and I picked it up as she grabbed a large platter herself.

"I'm taking this to Lady Morgana which is in a different part of the castle but I'll walk with you for the way that you need to take."

I soon realized I'd soon get some muscles in my arms from aching all day to now having to carry a platter halfway around a castle, it was painful. Gwen didn't talk much as we walked back but it suited me was I remembered my way around.

Gwen stopped outside a staircase. "My path leads differently now, but follow the staircase up and turn left at the top, follow the corridor to the end and you'll be there." Gwen told me.

"Thank you" I smiled and walked up it.

"Walk on the left!" Gwen called up to me.

I did so and went into Arthur's room.

I nodded to Arthur as I set down his food on the table and waited beside Merlin.

"You know Merlin, you could learn a lot from Starflame" Arthur said as he munched through his lunch.

"Sire?" We both said to him.

"In fighting. Where did you learn those moves, alright, they were rusty but they arn't normally used in battle." Arthur explained.

"I don't know. Think it has something to do with my memory loss. I just went with my instinct sire." I said.

Arthur frowned but went off the subject after that.

"I need to visit a village tomorrow so you two will be coming with me. Starflame, you'll need a horse so you two will be finding a horse from the royal stables for her this afternoon." Arthur told us.

"But sire, what about dinner, polishing your armor?" Merlin frowned.

"I have a servant who can do that, George!" Arthur called.

"Sire?" George asked when he walked into the room.

"I need you to polish my armor for me." Arthur told him.

"Sire." George took Arthur's armor and walked out.

I burst out laughing as soon as he'd left.

"What?" Arthur asked me.

"M.... Merlin's face" I said.

Merlin pushed me and we left to go to the stables.
