Poison isn't so nice.....

The next morning Merlin woke me up saying I'd slept all day yesterday and throughout the night.

I was still tired but I thanked Merlin when he told me he'd told Arthur that I'd been fighting a cold and I needed the sleep.

Going into Arthur's room I watched as he ate his breakfast.

"Sire."

"Yes Starflame" Arthur said.

"May I ask, why are we here?" I asked.

"Good question, I'd wondered which of you two ask that. The village needed to reaffirm its alliance to Camelot, Mordrid nearly got them to attack Camalot a few weeks before you arrived." Arthur said.

"So your here to get them to add their signature to the alliance list?" Merlin said understanding.

"Yes, thankfully this should be the last." Arthur said. "And you'll be happy to hear that tomorrow we'll be going back."

"Yes!" We grinned and walked out the room.

Merlin was shown around by this girl and I stayed in the stables looking after Spirit and Prince A.

We stood behind Arthur as he got the signature from the village and stood up to drink their toast that they made.

"Wait!" Merlin said and took the goblet from Arthur.

"This cup is poisoned!" Merlin said.

"Merlin! What has got into you?! Of course it isn't poisoned." Arthur said and snatched it back.

"Sire, let me drink it." I told Arthur taking it from him.

"What do you mean?" Arthur said.

"We don't know if Merlin's right or not, and I am no use as I have no memory. Let me take it to check if it's ok." I told him.

Arthur looked at me and then nodded. "Alright. But the village will be killed if it is poisoned." He said.

I raised the cup to the sky. "For Camelot!" I said and Arthur said the same after me.

With an shaking hand I raised it to my lips and drank the whole thing. The liquid burnt my throat but that was because it was ale, or so I hoped.

Nothing happened for a while and Arthur smiled and said. "Its alright."

But then my head spun as if I was going round in circles but I was in fact not.

I heard Merlin say my name and then him and Arthur looking at me worried and then everything went black.

Merlin's point of view

Starflame fell down and made gasping noises as if she found it hard to breath.

"Merlin! Get the cup and take her to Gaius, we'll be there as soon as we can!" Arthur ordered me and I nodded.

Arthur got a knight to saddle Spirit and I lifted Starflame up in my arms and placed her on the horse and swung up myself.

"No messing around now Spirit, Starflame's life is hanging in the balance."

I kicked Spirit into her fastest stride towards Camelot.

Spirit seemed to understand because she was good as gold and the distance from Camelot was eaten up quickly.

Starflame's point of view

In between becoming unconscious I was in complete agony and I was just aware of being held by some one who was whispering comfort to me before I became unconscious again.

Merlin's point of view

Spirit holding me and Starflame clattered into the courtyard and as I jumped off her a stable hand came and got her leaving me to rush her straight to Gaius, much to my relief.

"Gaius!" I shouted bursting into our chambers.

"What is it?" Gaius asked and then saw Starflame. "Put her down on your bed." Gaius told me.

"She drank poison" I told Gaius getting the cup out for him to identify the poison.

Gaius looked at it and rummaged around in his poison books.
(He only kept them to find out how to cure patients from them, not plotting to secretly kill Uther and Arther).
"How long since she drank it?" Gaius asked.

"I don't know, a long time." I stuttered.

"I need to know more specifically how long Merlin!" Gaius shouted. "How long?!!"

"About since last afternoon" I said quickly.

I ran a bucket of cold water and got some fabric to wet to put on her head but Gaius stopped me.

"I've found the poison." Gaius said to me. He looked grim but I didn't want to think of the worst outcome yet.

"What... what is it Gaius?" I asked him.

"Its.... a truth poison..... you may... want to say your goodbyes now." I wailed loudly at that, my heart sinking. "As no one has survived a truth poison before."

I ran to her and held her hand as she gasped as she tried to breath which was getting harder and harder for her as time went on and told her fiercely "you will survive no matter what anyone says."

Uther came in followed behind by Gwen.

"What is it Gaius? I heard that Starflame's horse came in half an hour ago and two people came in here? Is my son ok?" He asked quickly everything not stopping to breath.

"I don't know if your son is ok but Starflame, she's drank a truth poison." Gaius told Uther.

"Whats a truth poison?" He frowned.

"A truth poison is where every thing you've done and blamed it on someone and you've known it deep in you even if you've forgotten, you remember and you take that person's pain or suffering instead."

Gaius stopped while Starflame screamed loudly I began to cry at her pain that was my fault.

"From the sounds of it, she's done a lot of that." Uther said.

"Yes, I've only had a couple other cases of this truth poison before and they've never been in this much agony but she seems to be getting weaker so she'll be out of her pain soon." Gaius said.

"Shut up!" I yelled at him standing up.

"Shut up! I yelled again. "If it were me you'd do as much as you could for me but your not. Your just letting her die. If it wasn't for her, I'd be laying there not her!" I burst into floods of tears as I couldn't hold it in any more and sat down crying into her arm.

"What do you mean?" Uther said.

"I was told by one of the servants from the village that they'd poisoned the cup and was going to get Arthur to drink it but I stopped him and said just would drink it because it was poisoned, like I did the time before, bu..... but Starflame said she should because she had no memory and drank it instead"
I wailed.

Starflame's point of view

I screamed loudly. I could here nothing, see nothing but feel pain throughout me, I felt like I was beyond dying. I could feel people that I did not know, yet knew so very well, die within me, killing me as well and I couldn't cope any more. Even screaming couldn't help, no matter how loud or hard I tried.

I felt a warm embrace in one of my hands and I clung onto it with all my might. It gave me something to stay with. Like drowning I didn't know the way to the surface, to breath, to get out of the pain, I just, wanted it over, I needed it to be over, yet another wave, bigger than the last ones, crashed down upon me and I fell thankfully into unconscious yet again.

Merlin's point of view

Near night time Starflame had stopped screaming and while it was a break on all our ears, even the ears below on the streets, it showed she was close to dying.

She had gone unconscious for a while every now and again when riding her here, but she always woke within half an hour at most.

Her skin was sweaty and steaming and her eyes rolled ferociously beneath her eyelids, her long beautiful brown hair laid tangled surrounding her head.

She started gasping again and I knew she was awake again and taking a huge breath she screamed louder than before before going unconscious again however she didn't look in pain anymore and if she hadn't of been breathing normally, she could of been mistaken for being dead now.

"Well done. You've got better." I congratulated her kissing her on the lips gently and stood up looking outside and found the knights and Arthur clattering into the court yard and then Arthur running towards the castle.

Arthur came into our chambers and came straight to Starflame. "Is she alright?" He asked me.

I nodded looking at her. "She's just fought off the last of the poison. Now she needs to focus on getting better." I told him.

"Thats good." Arthur said still looking at her.

"Merlin." He paused.

"Yes sire?"

"I... I love Starflame. She may have lost her memory and all, but she does what she thinks is best, even if it's dying in the process, she never backs down from a challenge and she's a person who looks for danger rather than avoid it like most people and to top it off, she's a girl. I've never met someone so beautiful, her eyes, her hair, her laugh, everything about her makes me love her and.... I've decided... I shall somehow, when she's better, ask her to go out with me." Arthur told me.

My heart stopped for a second. That was how I felt. Starflame was mine. I found her first, I was her equal, not her superior, and I helped her threw this. Not him.

Arthur mistook my silence to be of bad decision. "Your right, I should take her on a date and then ask her." He said.

He then went out and left me with Starflame. "Don't you worry Starflame, I'll be yours, not you be his."
