The Great Arrival

I only knew one thing for sure, and that thing was that I had no idea what was going on. I'd been on my way home from school, and suddenly I couldn't breathe.

I reacted out of instinct, and kicked and punched my way to what was a surface.

I was in a lake.

I had taken a wrong turn, clearly, and since I knew I lived nowhere near a lake, it must've been a very, very wrong turn.

I was fucked.

I made my way up the dirty ground before surely entering the woods.

Truth be told, I wasn't calm and collected, but I was hoping acting it would affect my mind.

The forest seemed oddly green, oddly... perfect, somehow, and I felt myself grow more and more worried with each step.

Until I heard someone else's steps.

Until I heard something else's steps.

"Who's there?" I called out, freezing in my steps.

"Who's there?" I repeated myself.

"You sounds frightened." I jumped in shock, turning around.

"Holy shi - that's... are you wearing a cape?" I realised suddenly, looking at the strange man.

"I am a knight of Camelot. The names Gwaine," he introduces himself; "Sir Gwaine."

I looked at him unsurely.

"Naturally," I then agreed; "Listen, I don't know if there's some... I don't know, role play going on, but could you tell me the way out of the forest?"

"The nearest city is Camelot. I can show you there, if you would like," he offered, giving a sly smile.

"Camelot," I repeated, not recalling the name; "right, that's fine. Lead the way, Gwaine."

"My horse is mounted over there," he explained, nodding his head towards the trees where I thought I heard footsteps.

"You're - you have a horse?" I asked with raised eyebrows.

"It belongs to the king of Camelot," he explained.

"Of course. And the king of Camelot is just such a nice guy, he lends you his horse?" I asked.

"Are you mocking our king? You are lucky I do not report you," he warned.

"Okay, okay, I think we got off on the wrong foot," I decided, ignoring my prejudices; "I'm sure role play is fun, it's just not my thing."

"What are those clothes?" He asked instead of answering. I looked down on my flowery pantsuit, the short sleeves and short pantlegs fitting the warm weather.

"You're the one to talk, Soldier," I shot back.

"Knight," he corrected me.

"I did not expect to be riding a horse today," I admitted, my arms very tight around Gwaine, making sure I wouldn't suddenly fall off.

"What did you expect?"

"Uh, homework. Netflix, maybe Wattpad," I told.

"What are these things you speak of?" He asked, his voice sounding sincerely curious.

"Ah, right. You're a knight," I said, rolling my eyes; "so Camelot is, like, your name for the city?"

"Camelot is the name of the city."

"Right, okay, where is this Camelot then?" I asked instead, hoping to figure out which city he was talking about.

"You can see the gates ahead," he stated, nodding in front of him.

I glanced past his broad back, seeing the beginnings of a medieval city.

"Holy shit," I muttered to myself; "this is really impressive."

"Many say that when they see it the first time," he agreed; "so, who are you in search for?"

"Uh, I don't know," I admitted.

"Why did you come to Camelot?" He asked instead.

"I got lost," I told.

"Where were you headed?"

"Home!"

"You seem rather confused. I will take you to the physician, Gaius," he decided, making me laugh slightly. He looked behind him.

"Gaius," I explained: "dope name."

While talking to Gwaine, we had passed the gates, entering the roleplaying city.

Stands of fruit, bread and everything else followed the street, almost like a small market.

Everybody was dressed up, fitting their characters perfectly.

An old woman was purchasing some bread, some kids running past her.

"I didn't realise this many people were into these kind of things," I told 'Gwaine'.

"Why are they staring at me?" I then asked, looking at the many people.

"Your clothes, I'm guessing. But don't worry, we are here now."

He easily jumped off the horse, looking up at me.

"Wait, how do you get off?" I asked, lifting one leg over so both were on the same side; "do I just jump?"

"Have you never been on a horse before?" Gwaine asked amused.

"Yes, like, once. As a kid," I added, perfectly masking my nervousness.

"Jump. I will catch you," he promised. And I closed my eyes before letting go. Five seconds after, I opened my eyes, realising I was already down.

"Ah, cool." Easier than expected.

"You are cold?" He questioned.

"Ha, that's funny," I admitted; "I get it, cool didn't mean the same back then."

"I am confused."

"Maybe you need to see Guys," I joked.

"Gaius," Gwaine corrected.

Gwaine showed me the way through the stone corridor, impressing me with every step.

This was so well done! Granted, I'd never tried roleplaying, but I definitely didn't expect it to be like this. Or guys like Gwaine, or whatever his real name was, to be into it.

He was pretty cute.

"Gaius?" Gwaine asked as he opened the door.

"Gwaine! What may I help you with?"

Gwaine stepped aside, revealing a white-haired man to me.

"Dope wig, man," I complimented; "it looks really... well, real."

"Who is this, Gwaine?" Guyus asked unsurely.

Gwaine looked at me.

"I never did catch your name?"

"Oh, sorry," I realised; "Natasha, but just call me Nat."

"Natasha. She's a bit... Confused," Gwaine commented, almost whispering the last bit, as if he thought that would shield me from hearing his words.

"I see," Gaius stated, looking curiously at me; "well, sit down, I will have a look."

I looked unsurely at Gwaine before following the old mans orders and sitting on the wooden bench.

"How old are you?"

"17," I told.

"Aha. What is your full name?"

"Natasha Wilson. I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused, I just need a way back to, you know, civilization," I joked.

"Yes. Where are you from, Natasha?" Gaius continued unaffected.

"Well, I was born in Denmark, but we moved when I was, like, five."

The door opened again and I looked up at a dark-haired guy.

He looked confused at my clothes before looking at Gaius and Gwaine.

"What's... going on?" He asked suspiciously.

"I found this lady wandering the forest near lake Avalon. I fear she has injured her head," Gwaine explained.

"Yes, I'm starting to fear that, too," I admitted; "could you guys just, drop the act, until I get out?"

"Why do you think that, Gwaine?" The boy asked slowly, glancing at the 'knight'.

"She doesn't remember anything, know anything."

"What? I know lots! sorry if I don't know everything about knights or role playing," I stated, a little offended.

"Lady Natasha!" Gaius interrupted; "who is the king?"

"You mean Queen Elizabeth?" I asked slowly.

"Uh-oh," the dark-haired boy muttered under his breath.

"Merlin. What did you do?" Gaius slowly turned and looked suspiciously at the boy - Merlin.

"I think - I think I made a mistake," Merlin admitted.

"Merlin!"

"Maybe, maybe I did something wrong," he continued,

"Merlin!" The man said loudly.

"I used a spell to get Freya back from the otherworld and I think I made a mistake," Merlin said in a rushed breath.

"Oh, boy," Gaius sighed.

"Classic Merlin!" Gwaine stated, smiling brightly.

"Wait, wait wait wait," I stuttered; "spell? You're saying this is real? This is, like, a real place?"

"Wait, where are you from?" Merlin asked me.

"England!"

"What? Where's that?"

"Wait, where am I now? What year is this?!"

"What year?" Gwaine asked in disbelief; "when are you from?"

"2020!"

Gwaine's eyes widened.

"Merlin, you have truly outdone yourself," Gaius huffed.

"I didn't mean to!"

"Okay, this is, this is officially too much," I decided, standing up; "I'm just, I'm gonna, I'm gonna go home!"

"Natasha, you can't be seen in the city," Gaius interrupted me.

"Excuse me?"

"Your clothes, it is not proper," he explained it.

"Okay, well, I thought I looked rather cute today, but of course, today for me is February 2020 and not in fucking - I don't even know!" I stated loudly; "Jesus Christ."

"Merlin, what spell did you use?" Gaius questioned.

"I'm not sure, I found it in a book," Merlin shrugged before nothing Gaius raised eyebrow.

"I'm gonna get the book," he decided before running off into another room.

"This is, holy shit, what the fuck!" I cried out panicked.

"Gwaine, could you find her some clothes? I will find her something calming," Gaius decided before turning his back.

Gwaine looked at me, taking my hand.

"I will be back soon," he commented before kissing it and taking off in a rush.

"Uhuh," I agreed unsurely.

I looked around the room before realising.

Of course!

It was a prank. Granted, a well done prank, but of course, that was the only logical explanation.

I made a quick decision and left the room before giving my brain room to reconsider.

Introducing; Natasha Wilson.

I really hope someone someday will read this, and if they do, that they like it, so this message goes out to that person, should they come by!
