Chapter 2: The Tournament
Heyyy, my lovelies!
Gif is for the fight scene.
Summary: Lord Karayan holds a tournament for someone to go on a very important mission.
Quick note: I know Merlin is mean in this story but there's a good reason for it. Merlin has been hurt from years of verbal abuse and hatred so he's become cold from it. He'll get nicer soon. Onward!
A new ruler had come to the throne of Duloc. Lord Karayan was a cruel tyrant of a man who would go no lower than perfection. His first order of business had been to banish all those fairytale creatures. The princesses and heroes, however, he kept, for they were useful.
With the riff raff out of his way, Lord Karayan just needed one other thing to be sure his kingdom was perfect and his rule assured: a magic mirror.
His guards finally found it and brought it before him. Karayan stood before the mirror and quoted, "Mirror, mirror, is my rule assured?"
The mirror took one look at the tyrant and responded, "Yes....except you need one thing before you can become a proper king."
"And, what, pray tell, would that be?"
"You need a queen to rule by your side. In order to become king, you must marry a princess."
"Go on."
"So sit back, milord, and relax. Cuz it's time for you to meet today's eligible bachelorettes. And here they are!"
The mirror showed him thirteen choices. The first, Snow White, was too young. The second, Cinderella, seemed promising but he decided against her because of some of her weird habits. Third, Aurora, was also too young.
Fourth, Jasmine, was too skinny. Fifth, Belle, was very beautiful but the book thing turned him off. Sixth, Ariel, was a mermaid and he decided that wouldn't work out either.
Seventh, Elsa, was too cold and he knew she wouldn't respond to his advances. Eighth, Rapunzel, had way too long hair. Ninth, Tiana, wasn't pretty enough.
10th, Alice, was too young. 11th, Red, was a lycan and he couldn't stand them. 12th, Merida, was too strong-willed.
At this point, Karayan almost lost hope but when he saw number 13, he knew she was perfect. Her name was Rosalia and she was beautiful.
According to his magic mirror, Rosalia was trapped in a tower guarded by a giant, fire-breathing dragon.
That was a bit of a problem but he decided instead of risking his own neck, he'd throw a tournament, the champion of which would have the honor of rescuing the princess.
"Wait a moment, milord, there's something you should know. At sunset-"
"Enough!" Karayan exclaimed. "I have everything planned out. Captain! Assemble your finest men! We're gonna have a tournament!"
If only he'd listened to the mirror...

Merlin and Seth had arrived to Duloc at last. They looked up to see what looked more like a giant fortress than a castle.
"So that's Lord Karayan's castle? Hey, you think maybe he's compensating for something? Hehehe..." He laughed for a second but when Seth gave him a weird look, he shrugged. "Oh nevermind! Let's just get this over with."

Finding the entrance was fairly easy, but once the pair were inside, they realized the place was nearly deserted, except for a few dancers who started singing a rather annoying tune.
Welcome to Duloc
Such a perfect town
Here we have some rules
Let us lay them down
Keep calm, stay in line
And we'll get along fine
Duloc is a perfect place!
Please keep off the grass
Shine your shoes, wipe your...face
Duloc is...Duloc is....Duloc is a perfect place!!
"Wow!" Seth said. "Let's do that again!"
Merlin quickly grabbed him. "No no Seth! No!"

After awhile, Merlin and Seth found what looked like a giant arena. In it, several men in armor were crowded together, weapons in hand, listening to a man dressed all in black who stood on a podium, giving a speech.
"Men of Duloc, today you are gathered for a very special reason. I am a king without a queen, a man with no purpose. But I have found a queen.
"That is why I have summoned all of you here today. This tournament will serve as a test to prove which is the correct choice to go on this noble quest and rescue the princess from the fiery keep.
"If the champion I have chosen cannot complete his task, the second best shall take his place and so on and so forth. Some of you may die but it is a sacrifice I am willing to make."
The crowd of men cheered. Merlin rolled his eyes and came forward until the entire crowd and the man on the podium, who he assumed was Lord Karayan, had seen him.
Karayan let out a screech of terror. "What is that?! Oh it's hideous!!"
Merlin gave Karayan a look. "Oh that's not very nice! He's just a werewolf."
Karayan gave a nod to his men and they suddenly attacked Merlin and Seth. Merlin used a mixture of magic and combat to fight while Seth shapeshifted and fought. Soon, they had dispatched the group of men and all lay unconscious.
Karayan motioned for his archers who all aimed at Merlin but instead of giving the order to shoot, Karayan shouted, "Congratulations to our new champions!"
Merlin snorted in exasperation. This didn't make any sense.
As Karayan saw it, Merlin was powerful and highly expendable. If he could rescue Princess Rosalia, Karayan would have his queen and if he failed and died, who'd miss him?
"Congratulations, sorcerer and lycan! The two of you have been chosen to go on a great and noble quest."
"But I'm already on a quest!" Merlin protested. "A quest to get my woods back from those fairytale creatures you dumped right in them!"
"Alright, sorcerer, I'll make you a deal. You go on this quest for me, I'll return your woods to you just as they were, no more fairytale creatures, all the way down to the scariest tree in them. Sound fair?"
Merlin took a look at the archers and narrowed his eyes at the would-be king. "What kinda quest?"
To be continued...
See? I told you guys I'd update today! So here you go! Next update soon.
