Captive SBS 1 [tumblr]

Hey guys! I've decided to gradually post in these book the Tumblr asks containing a bit of analysis on my stories (mainly Captive and its characters) and One Piece. It felt a little weird to put all that stuff out on Tumblr while my main audience is here.

Please feel free to always ask anything to me, here on Wattpad DMs or Tumblr (I have the same username), anything goes!

Is there anything in your captive fic that you wish you would've put in/added more detail to but couldn't find a way to smoothly introduce it or didn't think of it at the time?

Hi, thank you for the question!

The answer is definitely YES.

In particular I wish I would have highlighted more the relationship between birdie and her rifle, and how important that weapon is to her. Her rifle has a name and everything, but, just as you put it, I couldn't find a way to smoothly introduce all the info about it.

I know it's a weird thing to bring up and probably not the answer you would expect, but I kinda regret it because of a couple of scenes revolving around this that I'm including in the upcoming sequel.

Also, when I first wrote Captive, not only we didn't have the amount of info we recently got on the Kid Pirates, but we didn't even know the name or the look of their ship. Had I had these info, I would have used it and probably written more scenes with birdie and the crew.

But that's life, I'll keep it all for the sequel!

[Ask including a long analysis of birdie's introspection and her relationship with Kid from the reader, I'll cut it here because too long, I'll only include my thought on the matter]

First of all let me say that there can be more than one interpretation to birdie's behavior and personality, this is the whole reason why I don't always draw clear-cut lines: I love to see what you guys feel about it.

If I may add something to what you've said about birdie and her own perception of control/freedom on the Victoria Punk, let me say that the environment she grew up in plays a role as well.

Being in the Marines for around a decade constricted her actions and way of thinking into the tight ranks of a military organization, so she never had much liberty to begin with. The ways around a Pirate ship are actually much looser.

Then there's the fact that birdie was always ill-suited to follow the strict rules of the Marines and respect her superiors, to the point she was infamous for not always following orders. BUT, because she felt she had chosen that life herself, and because she didn't want to disappoint Aokiji, she always forced herself to wedge in. She limited her own freedom.

On the contrary, as a prisoner of the Kid Pirates, she didn't feel any obligation to them. Sure, she was much more vulnerable and in a very dangerous position. And yet, ironically, she is mentally much freer than she ever was in the Marines. She doesn't feel she owns any respect to the pirates until they earn it, and she doesn't feel she has to follow any rule until they force her.

It's true that, as you said, at times she seems to "forget" her position as a prisoner, but in the back of her mind, she's always acutely aware of it: she uses the very concept against Heat, during the crisis caused by Drake, when he urges her to have food and she asks if he's "forcing her" to eat. And later she almost embraces being a prisoner when Kid puts the bracelet on her to re-establish their roles and put her at ease (that she is not a pirate).

So the thing is, is she really choosing a relationship with her kidnapper, or is she just looking for an excuse not to be the one to choose?

This opens up a Pandora box on how messed up she is, so I better stop here. 🥲

Just one word on the power balance between Kid and birdie. Even here, the lines are blurred, and I'll leave it to the readers to decide who holds the most power and when (obviously it's Kid most of the time, the interesting part is guessing if/when it shifts). One thing I can say though: I don't think birdie ever cared for "fixing" the bad guy. She never tries to make Kid a better person, not even with herself (or hardly so). It's just that she occasionally thinks to be immune to the monster, just because she got to experience some more hidden, softer parts of him. And then she's violently reminded that she's not, you already exposed this very well in your own words.

I hope this is interesting for you and I touched all the points you wanted! :D

I'd love to know what you think about the relationship between birdie and Killer, please don't ever limit yourself if you wanna talk to be about stuff!

Hi! I've re-read your story so many times like, it's just really good?? But anyways, I had a quick question if you'd be interested! Are there any parts that you'd change, if you could go back? Or if you were to edit?

Also, dunno about spoilers for questions so pls delete this if so, but at the very end of Captive, did Kid expect that it was all not real? That she wouldn't -----?

But anyway, I really loved your story and how you wrote both Kid although I imagine Kid just slightly different, but I adore your interpretation of him and his crew (and the made up ones. Booka ❤️). Sorry for rambling, but even if life happens and you don't get around to writing more, I'm so grateful for your stories so far and you really are so talented! And this might be a dumb question, but if I wanted to make a fanart for this series, would it be easier to send it to you here or on wattpad? Anyway, thanks so much for this series + you legit seem like a really cool person !

Wow, thank you for this beautiful ask, it made me smile as I read. :) It also makes me happy that you loved and supported my story to this extent, thank you! ❤️

I'll try to reply to all your questions in order:

- I don't think I wouldn't change anything major in Captive. I would add the newly revealed crew members of the Kid Pirates and incorporate the physique of the Victoria Punk into the story. And I'd probably made Kid slightly rougher in the early chapters, sometimes I reread them and I feel he was too soft in certain parts.

- [SPOILERS FOR CAPTIVE IN THIS SECTION] At the end of the story, Kid had too many doubts on birdie's mental state. He was afraid her feelings for him were a mere product of the prolonged distress she was subjected, and because he was the very cause of that, he had no way to repair it. I plan to delve further into Kid's pov in the sequel, so stay tuned!

- Feel free to share how you picture Kid differently, I'm always curious on these aspects! Everyone's has their own interpretation and that's totally fine, I'm glad you enjoyed mine.

- I'm definitely working on the series! I haven't been able to write much lately because I'm spending my working days deep into scientific writing, so I have no energy to do so in my spare time. But I do miss it and this phase at work should come to an end soon, I can't wait to come back!

- I would be delighted to see your fanart! *-* you can send them to me here if it works for you.

Thank you again for all your words and support, it definitely means a lot to small fanwriters like me!

[question about birdie's preferred outfit, cut because contained many unrelated things]

If I understood correctly you want to know what birdie's most common outfit is, right? She has simple tastes in this regards: a simple tank top and shorts will do for her, preferably with blue or green combinations. She likes to have her feet free from unnecessary constraints and she's not afraid to show skin, like some cleavage or her stomach even, but not because she thinks of herself as attractive, mostly it's that she enjoys to feel the sun and the sea.

This is a weird question and you don't have to answer if you don't want to but, at the end of captive how Kidd is all worried that Birdie just had a Stockholm kind of thing with him if he expressed this to her would there be any way for her to hypothetically be able to convince him otherwise? (assuming they were actual feelings for him) or do you think even if they tried together with actual communication (rip Kidd can't express his emotions properly for the life of him but we're just pretending) to figure out and prove her feelings he could accept it or do you think his paranoia would always get the better of him and make him miserable to be with her?

Hi, thank you for your very interesting question!

Honestly I don't see Kid and birdie fixing things just by talking it out. Even if we forget for a moment that they're both shit at both expressing their emotions and having civil conversations, I can't picture birdie convincing him that her feelings are real because she herself doesn't know.

As for Kid being tormented by the thought, well, I won't delve into that just yet because I might spoil stuff ahead. This point will be addressed, so don't worry! :)

Oof that last ask gave so many feels 😭😭 What do you think Kid would've done if Birdie tried to follow him?

Also in Mission Dressrossa, did Birdie realize her feelings when she kinda saw that the Marines were hypocritical? Or was it just that she kept missing the kid pirates? Sorry, i was just a little confused on how she decided her feelings were real. Want to make sure i didnt miss anything 😭

Hi, thank you for the ask! Unfortunately I have to skip the first question because it might spoil a piece of dialogue I have in mind for the sequel, sorry!

Sooo... has birdie actually ever realized that her feelings are real, and not the product of trauma? I don't think I ever cleared the blurred lines.

You see, either way she cannot really help what she feels. But she can make a choice about her future, and that's what she did. To see how this pans out, you'll have to read Bonds. 😇❤️
