Swimming

A/N Did a kind of rubbishy edit to go with this oneshot. Also, I dedicate this to @Tash45 because she gave me the idea for this one shot :)
Side note, I also don't really appreciate people reposting and using my covers or edits when they don't credit me. I had another issue a week or so ago when someone reposted my edit from my Tumblr onto We Heart It. So please don't use my edits without at least crediting. It's irritating. Rant over - on with the one shots...

"C'mon slowcoaches!" Merida yelled to the rest of the group as they walked down to the sea. The four of them had gone on a road trip across Europe during the summer and now they had stopped off in Sicily in Italy. Hiccup was interested in the culture there, but for today they wanted a day at the beach. "Unlike you I actually want to get in the sea today so hurry up!"

"Merida!" Rapunzel ran to catch up whilst clinging on to her beach bag. "Slow down!" As the two girls ran ahead, Hiccup and Jack walked at a leisurely pace about ten paces behind them. The moment they were out of ear shot Jack nudged the auburn haired boy in the ribs.

"When are you doing to tell her then?"

"Tell her what?"

"Don't play dumb Haddock. You know exactly what I'm talking about."

"Yeah, I really should tell my mum that I forgot to service my car before we came on this holiday, you're right."

"I'm talking about Merida." Jack stopped walking and turned Hiccup to face him. "C'mon! You've only got a year before we finish sixth form and remember?"

"Merida could be going to university in Scotland, I know," Hiccup sighed. "But we don't know for certain -"

"You can't leave it to chance," Jack cut him off. "Be a man! She'll see you today in nothing more than trunks and suddenly it'll hit her, wow, this is Hiccup, my best friend and total fittie -"

"I'll tell her if you tell Rapunzel." At this comment Jack stopped and blushed, despite his pale skin. Even all this extra sun didn't darken his complexion.

"Hic, I told you, I'm still getting over Elsa -"

"You were over her months ago!" Hiccup retorted. "Even before you went out with her I saw you gaping at Rapunzel like she was some kind of goddess, staring across the lunch table, it's a wonder she didn't notice -"

"I'll tell her if you tell Merida," Jack snapped to shut him up, offering a hand. Hiccup shook it quickly before he could change his mind. "We have until the end of the day. Got it?" Hiccup nodded.

"Hey!" Merida turned round and yelled to the two boys. "You coming or what?" Hiccup and Jack glanced at each other briefly before they nodded and ran to catch up, their sandals smacking the sand beneath them.

Merida was the first to see it. The sea, shining and shimmering and sparkling with the sun that was warming their backs deliciously. There was barely anyone there too, which made for a much more exciting day. The red head's face lit up and she grabbed Rapunzel's hand and made her run with her down to the shore line. Hiccup grinned as he saw her hair flying in the wind. Seeing her happy made him over the moon. Jack decided not to mention the fact that he was the one staring like Merida was a goddess now.

Soon they had everything set up apart from one thing. They weren't in their swimming costumes. Plus, it was really too hot to be standing around in shirts. And that water looked incredibly inviting.

"Well come on!" Jack said, ripping his white shirt off and kicking off his sandals, leaving him in the blue trunks he turned up in. Merida grinned as she saw Rapunzel staring but she gave her a shove so she wouldn't embarrass herself any longer.

Hiccup figured he couldn't shy away any more and took off his shirt as well, blushing slightly. Now it was Merida's turn to stop and stare. He really did look quite good, like that. Rapunzel had to give her a slap before Hiccup saw.

"C'mon Merida! We have to get ready too!"

"Right, yeah... You two set up the net!" Merida rambled, which was unusual for her. Jack grinned while Hiccup merely stood there sheepishly, running his fingers through his fringe.

"When are you going to tell him then?" Rapunzel asked as they got changed behind a particularly large rock.

"Tell who about what?"

"C'mon Merida! You know exactly what I mean. Hiccup deserves to know. We only have one more year of sixth form and then -"

"I might be going to university in Scotland, I know," Merida sighed.

"So you do like him!" Rapunzel squealed.

"What? No!"

"I saw you staring when he took his shirt off," the blonde smirked.

"Don't even get me started on you and Jack!" Merida retorted. "He's always there, sitting across the lunch table, 'yes Rapunzel, of course you're right Rapunzel, let me stroke your golden hair'-"

"I'll tell Jack if you tell Hiccup," Rapunzel cut across her.

"Deal," Merida agreed and they shook on it before going back to meet the others.

The boys were not prepared for what met them.

Rapunzel was wearing a dark purple bikini with a pink lace trimming. Her hair was plaited several times before joining together to create one, gorgeous, beautiful braid. Jack was lost for words, but Hiccup was having even more problems.

Due to the fact that Merida barely ever wore even slightly revealing clothes, it came as quite a shock to suddenly go from casual shorts and hoodies to, well, nearly nothing. She was wearing a dark blue one which was gorgeous enough as it was, but that tiny tartan bow on the strap! Gods. It just finished everything off for Hiccup.

"Come on!" Merida said enthusiastically to break the awkward silence, "Let's go in the sea. It's too hot to be standing around here all day!"

"You and Hiccup go," Jack replied. "I need to talk to Punzie for a second."

"That's weird, because I need to talk to you," Rapunzel smiled.

"Um, okay..." Merida trailed off, realising she was going to have to hold up her part of the bargain. Come in when you're ready. C'mon Hiccup," she started running down to the shore and when he stayed where he was, she made a face at him, ran back, grabbed his hand and pulled him with her down to the shoreline as he grinned goofily over his shoulder at Jack.

Merida pulled Hiccup to a pile of rocks, larger than boulders at the water's edge. She let go of his hand and hid behind it, peeking through a crack.

"What the -"

"Sh!" Merida snapped as quietly as she could muster. "Get down; I'm trying to see what they're saying!"

In a second Hiccup was crouching beside her, peering through the same tiny slit in the rock. Merida realised how close he was; she could almost count the freckles on his face and his breathing was so steady, deep and soothing...

She snapped herself out of trance to watch Jack and Rapunzel. The white haired boy was scratching the back of his neck awkwardly as he tried to get the words out while Rapunzel was shuffling uneasily from foot to foot. From where Merida was sitting though, it seemed that finally Jack had said all he needed to as Rapunzel froze where she was and a giant smile spread over her face. In a second their arms were round each other's and Jack pulled her into a kiss.

"Damn," Merida and Hiccup muttered under their breaths. This meant that they had to keep their side of the bargain now. Simultaneously, they turned to look at each other, eyes wide and hearts going at the speed of light. Suddenly they seemed to realise just how close they were to each other.

"Merida," Hiccup mumbled, but he found he couldn't continue. "I, I just, ugh. What I mean is that, um..."

"I like you," Merida cut across him, staring straight into his eyes. "Okay? I should have told you ages ago. I've been an idiot."

"Well, that makes things easier because, I, I kind of like you too," Hiccup stammered in reply. Merida smiled weakly at him as he struggled to piece everything together.

"Well I, I suppose I'd better -" Hiccup mumbled as he tentatively placed a hand on her shoulder and another on her chin. Merida, for the first time in her life, was speechless. He was drawing even closer, closer, closer...

His lips brushed hers nervously and immediately Merida's inner confidence broke free. She grabbed his chest and kissed him back, making him fall over in surprise so his back was on the sand. She laughed that laugh that drove Hiccup insane and leant over him, down to meet his lips. Within seconds they were kissing furiously on the sand, making up for all those times they didn't do this.

"Oh please," Jack grinned as Rapunzel giggled beside him, her hand in his, "Don't let us interrupt anything!" The two sat up immediately, faces flushed and the pair of them blushing furiously.

"Shut up Frostbite," Merida snapped, "We all know what you and Rapunzel did!"

"You -!" Rapunzel gasped.

"You spied on us!" Jack pointed at Merida and Hiccup while the auburn haired boy stifled a chortle.

"Well what was that just now then?" Merida asked, "If that wasn't spying I don't know what was!"

"She's got a point," Hiccup interrupted.

"Oh shut up," Jack laughed. "We haven't even gone in the sea yet!"

With that, the four of them ran down to the shore, running into the water with various shouts and squeals as Jack was dragged in by Rapunzel and Merida splashed Hiccup. In reply he swooped her off of her feet and threw her into the water, making her only want to win this battle even more.

Either way, this trip to the seaside was one that would not be forgotten in a long time.
