Jeweller To The Stars
(start music)
Hiccup - the spirit of the Night, always met with Merida - the spirit of the Day at midnight, when the moon shone it's brightest. They'd met at daybreak when Hiccup had ended his mortal life on Earth. He was chosen, not as a guardian, but as a spirit. He'd met Merida when the sun shone upon her and been stunned. Her hair flowed and shone brighter than the sun itself, her eyes gave life to the sky itself and he realised why she'd been picked as the spirit of the Day. She gave him life and purpose to live.
For Hiccup meanwhile, it was very clear why he'd been chosen as spirit of Night. He'd owned a dragon named after it. Toothless, his Night Fury, was long dead now, but he lived in a star that Hiccup had placed in the sky for him. Everytime he saw the star he was reminded of him. But Hiccup had moved on since then. As soon as he'd died and become the spirit of Night, he'd resumed his twenty year old self for eternity. Then he'd met Merida and his world had flipped.
This night was different. It was an eclipse. It meant that Hiccup and Merida had much longer together. They rarely had them, and when they did they cherished them. But neither had made a move yet. Hiccup was planning to change that tonight.
Night met day and as Hiccup caught sight of Merida his jaw dropped. She looked even more beautiful than usual - her hair seemed to almost be glowing and her dress was sewn with sunlight threads. Even though it had only been a day, Hiccup felt like it had been a year. He ran towards her, his cloak of night flying behind him and he swooped her into his arms, making her squeal and protest.
"Mi'Lady!"
"HICCUP! Put me down!"
"Not yet."
"Why?"
"I'm taking you somewhere."
"Like a date?"
"Well, maybe."
"Where are we going?"
"That's for me to know and you to find out."
"I hate you."
"I know."
Hiccup flew her to a secluded place, halfway across the world. Norway, near his home country of Berk. It was beautiful here on top of this snow covered mountain as it was, but what Hiccup was about to show Merida would make it even more so.
"May I ask what on earth we're doing in Norway of all places?" Merida grinned with her arms folded. Hiccup smiled back.
"You have to wait. It's a surprise."
Merida rolled her eyes and held onto his arm, watching as stars lit up the sky, one at a time.
"This is beautiful," she whispered as she placed her head on his shoulder.
"Not as beautiful as you," Hiccup said without thinking. Merida looked at him, smiling as he stammered and tried to cover it up. "I mean - I think it's beautiful too!"
"And just look at the stars," she murmured.
"Gorgeous eyes," Hiccup replied, and he realised he'd done it again, "No, I meant skies! Gorgeous skies! Skies, because you know, the stars, they're pretty, pretty nice, and - oh Gods..."
Merida chuckled softly and sat down on the mountain top. Hiccup sat down next to her, trying not to feel too embarrassed.
Merida turned to face the sky and gasped. The Northern Lights were lighting up the star sprinkled blanket of night that was the sky and it was like nothing she'd ever seen before.
"Was this the surprise?" Merida whispered, turning to face him. Hiccup nodded, scratching the back of his neck.
"Do you like it?"
"You're kidding me right? I love you!" Merida suddenly realised what she said and stuttered, "I mean, er, I love it!" She turned to face the sky again so Hiccup wouldn't see her blush that was creeping up her face. "It's just amazing and I didn't mean to say, you know, well, I love you, I mean, I really do like you, but I -"
Merida never finished her sentence. Hiccup didn't let her. He had turned her cheek to face him and he kissed her on the lips, very softly.
"That's what I meant to say," Merida whispered.
"Maybe you shouldn't speak then," Hiccup murmured in reply, "just show me."
Hiccup smiled uncontrollably as Merida pulled his shirt down to kiss him harder. Hiccup closed his eyes and melted into her touch as they drew even closer. This was just insane. He'd meant to do this for so long and never got the chance. Now, he supposed, they had all of eternity to spend with her.
They drew away, grins spreading over their faces. Hiccup suddenly remembered what he'd meant to give Merida and he reached into his pocket. He drew out a necklace that he'd made from fallen stars themselves and fixed them on a golden chain. He held it out to Merida nervously.
"Here. I made it for you. If - if you don't like it, obviously you don't have to wear it and -"
"Hiccup. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."
"Really?"
"Other than your handsome self, of course."
Hiccup grinned and blushed, hard. He brushed Merida's hair out of the way and helped her clasp it around her neck.
"It's incredible; I love it Hiccup. Thank you."
"You're, you're welcome..."
Merida pulled him near and whispered in his ear:
"I love you, Jeweler to the Stars."
