The Patroit and The Loyalist's Daughter

This shot takes place in the Revolutionary War. Hiccup and his family are Patriots and Merida's father is a British soldier placed in Bostan. Her mom and brothers are dead, so she came with him to the colonies, where she meets Hiccup.

Merida's P.O.V

"Now, Mr. Hutchinson is a very important man, and an old friend of mine. The king himself appointed him Govener. You will not speak, unless spoken to. You will be helpful, and always refill his tea. Stand up straight, and keep your hair in that bonet. Have I made myself clear?" Fergus asked me.

"Yes father." I responded. Ever since the death of my mum and my three brothers, he's been strict, harsh, and distant. I know he's just trying to push me to be the best lady I can be, but I feel so alone.

He nodded."Good. Now go start the tea."

With that, I rushed into the kitchen and began to make Britain's imported tea. I often hear townsfolk and merchants complain about the new tax, and many others. But whenever I ask father about it, he shuts me off, telling me never to listen to those dirty, betraying Patriots. He always says Patriots with such scorn.

I heard a knock on the door, and almost spilled the tea. My father opened the door, and embraced the man standing there."Thomas! Good man, come inside! You just in time for tea!"

"Tea with an old war friend? How could I say no!" He replied. He walked in and took off his hat and clook. He was dressed in such fancy clothes, and sat down at the table with my father.

"Merida! Come in here with that tea!!" My father yelled. I swallowed and walked in with a tray carrying two cups and the tea. I gave them each a cup and fill them.

"Thank you, young lass. Merida was it?" He asked.

I nodded. "Yes."

"Well, it is a pleasure to meet you miss Merida. How old are you nowadays?"

I fought the urge to punch him. "Sixteen."

"Well! That's the same age as my oldest son Jonathan! I'm sure he'd love to meet you!" He told me.

"I would be nice to see Merida wed before I pass." My father commented.

"You're not that old!!" Thomas laughed along with my father. But I couldn't believe they were talking about me as if I wasn't there! And about marriage of all things!!

"If I shall marry, I will do so at my own will, thank you." I said bitterly.

"Merida! Apologize at once!" My father rorted.

"No, it's fine. She speaks her mind! Any man would want that in a wife." Thomas soothed.

"I suppose so." My father said, calming down. He sighed. "That will be all for now, Merida. Thomas and I must talk about things of much importance. Now, be a good lass and go to your room 'till I call you, understood?"
"Understood." I said between my gritted teeth. I turned, and retreated to my room. I shut the door, and sat on my bed. On my dresser, I saw my old doll my mum made me. I picked it up and a tear ran down my face as I sang the lullaby she always sang to me as a child. I layed it down next to me and fell asleep.

I awoke to the sound of men cheering and yelling. "MERIDA!!''
One in particular yelled. I groned and rushed out to see at lest, twenty men drinking the cellar dry. Loyalist I knew, and some I didn't. But, mostly soldiers.

"Merida!! Lass!! Go to the Rusty Horse and order the Fergus Special for us! Im to drunk to go, so get it delivered for us!! Use this!" He commanded, drunk as he could be, then tossed me a bag of coins. Refusle would be far worse than getting them more drunk, so I grabbed my clook and started out the door, when I felt someone grab my *ss. I whipped around to smack him, when Mr. Hutchinson grabbed my arm and the boy's arm.

"Merida! This is my son, Jonathan!! Jonathan, Merida!!" With that he gulped up more ale and turned back to the others.

"It's my pleasure to meet you." He said, kissing my hand.

I pulled away and scowled. "I'm afraid the feeling isn't mutual."

He smirked. "All the same, we shall be married in spring."

"I don't think so. Id never marry you." I told him.

He tilted his head. "Since when do women have a choice?"

I scowled, and stormed out of the house. I walked down the dirt road in the rain to the Rusty Horse. I walked in, and removed my hood. The drunks were singing, and the bartender was getting them drunk. I hated this place. I walked up to the bar and set down the bag. "My father wants the Fergus Special. Delivered."

The bartender smirked. "I put the rest on his tab."

I groned."How big is the tab??"

"You don't wanna know." He responded. He walked into the back to get the order, and I felt someone grab my hand. Jonathan.

"Hey! Let go of me!" I yelled, twisting to try to get away from him. His eyes we're glazed and I could tell he was drunk off his rocker.

"No, mylady I'm afraid you'll have to come with me. I'm in need of some long awaited company." He slired.

"Get off!" I yelled, my Scottish accent rising. Many people turned to see what the commotion. My face burned. He didn't release me and tried to pull me closer.

"Leave her alone, you bloody loyalist! Does your king justify rape? Well in the colonies, we won't have it!" I voice yelled from behind Jonathan. He turned around and I saw who was standing there.

He had shaggy brown hair, and forest green eyes. His freckles scattered across his face and I had to admit, he was hadsome. He held a pistol up at Jonathan and I've never seen a man so mad.

"And just who do you think you are, ya bloody colonial?" Jonathan slired.

"The name's Hiccup. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. Now release the lady." He replied. "Or I'll swear I'll fire."

Jonathan glared at him for a minute. He released my hand and turned to look at me. "This isn't over."

With that, he stormed out if the tavern along with my father's 'Fergus Special'. Hiccup put away his gun and looked at me, tears welling up in my eyes.

"You alright, mylady?" He asked, putting a hand on my shoulder.

I pushed him off and said, "I'm fine. Thanks for the help, but I had everything under control."

I pushed past him, and started to leave.

"I can see that." He caught up to me just before I got out the door. "Where are you going?"

"Home, if it's any of your business." I snapped. I pushed open the door and started to my house. Hiccup followed me out.

"Wait, wait a minute!" He said, grabbing my arm. "You'd rather go home to your drunk father and his drunk friends?"

"Where else can I go?" I shot back. "You colonists never give up, do you?"

"Last time I checked, we were all colonists. You sound just like a loyalist." He shot back.

"No I'm not!" I yelled. "I dispies those intolerable acts just the same as you!"

"But you still don't hate the king." He replied.

"I haven't decided what I am, and everyone can stop trying to decide for me!" I snapped.

"You're the daughter of a loyalist. Have you ever heard our side of the story?"

My face burned and I avoided his gaze as if I was a child being scolded. "Not........really. My father refuses to let me interact with......patriots."

Hiccup smiled. "Well, you'll be hanging out with a few patriots tonight. Come on." He said, guiding me back to the bar.

I didn't protest, and followed him back into the tavern. As we walked in, the patriots cheered. Hiccup giuded me to a table and we sat down. "What are they so happy about?"

Hiccup chuckled. "That you're safe from the drunk, bloody, loyalist."

~time skip~

"Now when a lad walks in his house alone, should a British bloody lobster back be living in his home?" Sang a patriot, standing on a table.

"NO!" We all shouted, still clapping to the beat.

"Should a lass be hasled by red coat men, when walking on her own?"

"NO!"

I laughed as the song continued. Id never had so much fun before in my life! After Hiccup told me about what the king was doing, I was done being a loyalist. And not to mention, the song was rather catchy.

"Enjoying yourself?" Hiccup asked.

I smiled. "Of course I am! Who would have ever thought I'd be a supporter of the sons of liberty? Well, TONIGHT I AM!!" I yelled, many people cheering me on.

"Care to dance?" Hiccup asked, as people began to dance to songs sung by the band, (and drunk men).

I took his hand and pulled him to the dance floor. We twirled and twirled, and I found myself lost in his green eyes.

Just then, a few men burst through the door. "WHERE IS MERIDA DUNBROCH?!?!?"

Great.

To be continued........
