"It's my birthday Vidyut" Avni looked at his face in hope if he could make it now any way.

"Actually I'll be busy this Saturday so I won't be attended to your party..."Avni opened her mouth but before she could utter anything further she got cut off by Vidyut immediately.

"Sorry Avni I have an important class to attend next. I'll leave now" His normal, unfazed voice as if nothing he feels for her, and grabbing his bag Vidyut hurriedly left dodging off her painfull gaze over him leaving her immobile, he departed.

"Hey Avni did you see Ali!! I need a note from him. Yesterday he had told me to meet him in class" stepping inside the classroom Neil stood behind her and asked Avni, while Avni wiped away a tears by the backside of her palm that rolled down her eyes. Lowering her face Avni pretended being busy putting a book inside her bag so that those few students inside the classroom couldn't see her vulnerable state.

"I don't know where he is" her voice low, cracked replying him.

Scrutinizing her face few seconds Neil leaned towards her slightly and said "is that everything fine with you Avni?" This made rise her face at Neil straight.

"Next time don't ask me anything related to Ali" she stated in a stern tone and next moment she strode out of the class earning a confused Neil watched her leave off the place.

Two days back

"What are you saying Ali are you out of your mind!! how could you behave like that to me!! We are childhood friend Ali!! I can't think my life without you " Avni urged in a hurtful tone staring Ali poured some water into a glass standing leaning to the kitchen sink expression less as if nothing effecting him. Not even his long time bestie.

"But you can give your heart anyone else except me right!!" Ali answered clenching his teeth drinking the water in a breath he put the empty glass on the sink with a thud. He threw a distasteful glare straight at Avni.

"How much you know that Vidyut!! than you know less about me!! But you chose falling for him instead me!!" Ali balled his fist in anger.

"Love doesn't happen by planning you know that Ali. If it would have had then I would definitely love to fall for you without thinking a second" Avni tried to explain.

"Whatever I don't care anymore..
I'm fed up being tagged as a best friend of your Avni" Ali threw the empty glass with full force on the floor in his hallway and it's scattered broken close to her feet.

Avni flinched by his action, she kept staring at his disheveled state for good five minutes near about, while Ali's shoulder rising up and down for his heavy breathing, his face away her. Rage rising inside him in full force. His body taut.

"Is this the last thing you want from me?" Her broken yet stern voice made Ali turned his tightened face towards her standing straight showing his backside.

"Yes...its over between us" Ali replied over his shoulder turning slightly towards Avni. He shoved his hands inside his sweat pant pocket hiding his clenching fists.

Instantly a sob made its way growing inside her throat and she stifled it bitting her lips gulping it down but failed stiffening her shoulder instead.
Taking few slow back steps staring mournfully at Ali's turning back she immediately ran out of his house wipping repeatedly her flowing tears away her cheeks.

A month later.

"Man why don't you sort out the mess with her!!" Vidyut wishpered leaning slightly towards Ali who was busy stuffing his mouth with a chicken burger. He sat opposite Vidyut turning the backside of the chair towards front in their college canteen.

"Then I would love to explain that it can't be possible anyday in future" Avni leaned over their small table on the space between them. She gave a sarcastic smile watching both of them rising off their seats, their confused eyes narrowed at her. Avni was in the canteen having her lunch with one of her class fellow, a table away them at the back so it didn't give her much struggle to hear them talking about her sitting there.

"It's not like that Avni...he will" Her cold yet amused gape made him gulped hard taking a quick glanced at Ali and stare back at Avni.

"I loved you Vidyut. And you too. I know. But you were so much into sacrificing your love for your bestfriend Ali that you never realised how hurtful was your every careless move towards me to handle. Because as much as me now almost everyone knows here that he was not only my best friend but also secretly had been in love with me always.

"Was that my fault!!" Avni take step closer her eyes was at Ali. Who flinched a bit by her words that knocked his heart straight.

"Ali has broken up with me his friendship because he has gotten fed up of mine being oblivious for his feelings. Whereas it would be the last thing if I have ever thought of hurting him instead savouring our friendship all the time. He was this much important to me, if anyone would ask.
And when after so many attempts he finally proposed and got rejected he decided to break our 18years friendship" her voice were as calm as a floating iceberg in a ocean.

"Isn't that amazing!!" Now she chuckled humourlessly.

"Really, it's an amazing feeling for a girl when she get treated by her love and bestie in such an astounding way" Avni smirked sarcastically looking at both of them while Vidyut stole few glances being ashamed, though Ali was the same standing opposite to Vidyut.

"Have you both ever realised how painful your treatment on me was? Huh?"

"What exactly did you plan Vidyut? you will push me to Ali
showing all your negligence , nonchalace towards me and I will fall for him oneday because you are not responding my attempts right!!
Like seriously Vidyut?
Do you really believe things work this way!!" She spated harshly in a disgusted voice.

"Then let me tell you both"

"It's not."

"Never had has happened and wouldn't ever. It's all bullshit ideas trust me. It's an act of useless pride of boys not to let the girl decide her what exactly she want" Avni rose her gaze upward in a bitter face, sighed. Only she know how mentally exhausted these things has gotten her.

"Did you get that?" Avni pushed Vidyut on his chest and he stumbled lowering his face. He shut his eyes heaving a deep breath, he looked helpless staring back at her.

"And you Ali!! You know what I can't expect much from him because he doesn't know me or never tried to.. But you were my friend!!" She turned towards Ali next.

"Best friend" she took a step gaping at ashamed Ali watching her.

"And who knew better than you!! that since last two years I'm into so much Vidyut with every ounce of my heart.
But you have chosen to cut off everything we had between us. 'Our pure friendship' That was. As the same time onesided just like my first love was. Its proven now " she shrugged it off when Ali tried to put his shaky hand on her shoulder.

"I loved you Ali like a girl could ever loved her secret keeper,her bestie. You always meant to me a lot. Actually more than Vidyut in most ways.
But how easily you just said that you don't want to continue being my friend anymore. And didn't forget to add at the end saying me to stay away you" Avni wiped a tear rolling down her cheeks. She took a deep breath.

"You guys know what you always chosen other things over me. One chose friendship over love. And other chose his one-sided love over totally denying his old friendship" This time everyone's eyes turned towards a person behind whose steps broke the silence around the canteen.

"Okay then if I'm this peripheral to you two then I also have something very important to share with you guys" breaking the pause she stated smiling at the person behind and again turned towards Vidyut and Ali.

"I have chosen the person who chose me over his expectations when he knew my stupid heart belongs to someone who has done every possible things to me so that I stay away him. But the you never know what fate has stored for you and how beautiful it is. He never withdrew hope neither tried make a move on me" her eyes smiled too this time.

"And you know what I have fallen for this guy. Yes I am. Doesn't matter to me at all anymore if I know him hardly since last 6 months. Barely talked more than few minutes everytime we crossed path.
There nothing any uneasiness left inside me to declare in front of the whole world that now Me and Neil we both are together " Avni extended her hand calling him close to her and Neil walked to her in a calm face being proud of his girl.

"He is the man whose priority is only me than any other meaningless stuffs in his life.
Don't ever think he told me all these things to win my heart, disguising real him.
He never did that.
It's his gestures, his every actions towards me showed that how important I am in his life. Apart from many ups and downs we usually go through everyday,he never gave up on me in his heart" Neil's arm went to her shoulder very tenderly first then turned firm in let them know she is his now, giving them a tight smile.

It would be understatement if someone says Ali and Vidyut both were more in shock looking at Neil and Avni both together this way. They had ever expected something could be happened as such.

"Actually.
I should Thank you both guys for whatever you two have done to me. Or else I wouldn't have known, there is someone for whom my 'heart' could be the last thing over other's" Avni smiled kissing on the knuckles of his and earned a surprised look from Neil by this sudden gesture of her, she ever done to anyone before.

That's it, dropping a single chance to let those numb boys to speak their not required part and not giving a single glance at Ali and Vidyut she left tangling her fingers together with Neil's.

With Neil beside her Avni walked away breaking the huddle of students around them in canteen. Together they strode away, towords their class leaving Ali and Vidyut's regretful gaze behind.

The same day evening at Neil's place.

"Avu!" Neil looked up at Avni who was reading a book leaning on his bed while Neil's head on her lap. He was scrolling his Insta feed.

"Humm" Avni responded, her eyes are still on the page she was reading since last 20 minutes after coming to Neil's house, not able to concentrate in her studies these days without having Neil beside her always.

"Do you really meant it. The words you said for me today in canteen?" He paused and Avni let out a sign keeping down her book slowly away.

"Get up" she looked serious.

"What" Neil got a bit confused at the same time tensed looking at Avni's sudden change in expression to a serious mode.

"I said get up" she repeated giving him a cold gaze.

Staring at her Neil slowly pulled his head upward and kept aside his phone straightening himself.

"Listen Avni I didn't mean something like that.....I can't even think of me hurting you in my worst dreams" His voice shook, horrified.

"Do the thing you want me with" she suddenly said leaving Neil stopped his blabbering being confused.

"What. do you mean!!" he asked snapping his forehead deeply. Now it is very much clearer over his face that he is highly tensed by her abrupt words.

"Don't you want to share your first kiss with me Neil!! Or it isn't your first either" a smirk grew on her lips looking at Neil in a shocking state listening her words.

"What!!" His eyes grew bigger he jumped almost in his seat.

"What what" Avni gave an amused smirk seeing his poor state.

"Are you out of your mind or what Avi" he somehow managed to speak through his pounding heart inside.

"I don't mind if it isn't your first or second or third or millionth. Because you are much more important to me now on, other than anyone or anything else in person or thing" next moment Avni pulled by his collar closer her, that made Neil startled feeling nervous under her lustful gaze.

"IIIt's nothing like that" his voice stammered in almost whisper, he gulped watching her staring at his lips.

"What do you mean?" she asked in a dreamy eyes still on his lips.

"It's mine first too" this made instantly tear her gaze right into his eyes.

"Can I be in your heart!!" He asked in a serious face searching her eyes.

"Can I be in yours too" Avni answered him back in same intensity as Neil held his eyes staring at her.
Her reply made Neil chuckled and next moment he slammed his lips on hers letting her heart skipped responding to their first kiss. Deepening his touch into a passionate one, he slowly leaned to her pressing Avni against the headboard touching all over her face down her neck. In response Avni moaned wrapping her arms around his neck pulling him closer.

Their eyes glistened for different reasons getting lost into eachother.

Avni's tears dropped getting the man who loves her unconditionally.

And Neil did the same having his true love in his arms. He had fallen the day his eyes landed on her, on the first day college.
But he stayed back steps because it was always transparent to him that, Avni is in love with Vidyut.

Love demands priority, and in return more intense love. Before we sacrifice our love we should realise the pain we could cause the person we love the most.
Because that the last thing we ever thought of doing to them. Right!

Although Vidyut will always be her first love. But the truth is She is more than happy now being with Neil. Because they know he is her last though she is his. Definitely.

Waise bhi kal kisne dekha it's upon us na!! how we would put effort to direct our life in our own way!!

Obviously that's not always but we can't sit and regret things instead trying to give our best winning back them.

In that case Ali atleast tried but it could have been in a better way, much sensibly.

Anyways guys Neil khanna is the winner. Aur baaki jaye bharmein 😜
