Chapter Sixty
serenity;
3 months later.
"Good fuck, you're going to kill us," Harry breathed, leaned back into his seat as he grasped his denim clad thighs tightly. He was going to have a heart attack. Pale green eyes wide and mouth parted.
I laughed. "We're fine, baby." I was so nonchalant and casual with it, although I was trying not to freak about because the amount of snow was intense. The road was slippery, and for an inclined road to be slippery is highly dangerous. In my defense, we haven't crashed.
"Why did I let you drive? You only started like a few months ago," he asked himself, breath hitching when he heard something that must've frightened him. He jumped and snapped his head to look at me. "What was that?"
Frowning, I glowered ahead with an eye roll. "Harry, relax. I didn't even hear anything. And who's idea was it to spend the winter break in their new house up hill, hmm?" I sassed.
Harry stared at me, blankly. "First of all it's not my house, it's Niall's. Second, that wasn't my idea. It was Niall's as well."
"Well you're friends with him."
"Well...so are you," he remarked.
I pouted. "Yeah, well...," I trailed off, not finding what to reply with. "Whatever, the point is, we're like two minutes away. Take a chill pill." Focusing, I shifted in my seat and sighed, squinting at the road.
"For God's sake, you're squinting."
Ignoring his constant complaining, I sighed in relief when I saw the house that Niall thought was cool to get up in fucking nowhere. But if that's what he preferred, hey, I'm not living with him so it's not my business.
Once I parked and stopped the car, we began to take our bags out of the car. I peered up at the house, and was surprised at its size. It's a rather big house for one guy, but of course, he's always throwing parties, so it seems to be perfect for him.
It was freezing while the struggle of getting our bags made things extensively harder.
"Shit, my balls hurt from this cold," Harry muttered, closing the trunk.
"I told you to wear something warmer than those stupid skinny jeans." I clenched my jaw and shook with a bag in my hands. Harry had my car keys, and I stuck out my butt to signal him to put them in my back pocket.
He did so with a glower. "I'll probably need like ten hand jobs tonight to unfreeze my dick."
Rolling my eyes, I began to walk to Niall's front door, and carefully up the few front steps with Harry behind me. I pressed my numb finger to the doorbell, bouncing on my toes in impatience. The door was opened to reveal the blonde himself, a wide grin on his face.
"Hey guys. Welcome to casa Niall," he announced happily. I smiled softly, enjoying how happy he seems to be with what he's accomplished.
Harry though, impatiently goes, "Hey, this is a real nice house you got here. But can you let us in so we can see the rest?"
"Oh, right. Sorry. Must be freezing balls outside," Niall chuckled, moving aside.
"Literally," Harry added with a snicker.
I walked inside with Harry eagerly following. His cheeks were pink along with his nose, dark green beanie covered in melting snowflakes. I probably looked similar to him, my own red hat covered in disappearing evidence.
"I'll show you guys where you can put your bags." Niall lead us up very nice, polished wooden stairs. Everything about the house said warmth at the moment. I could finally start to feel my fingers as we entered a cozy room enough for two people. Perfect.
There was a white, plush comforter covering the queen sized bed that was made of a smooth, dark brown wood. Everything was coordinated and it looked awfully nice. I was a little jealous by the end of the small room tour. Niall then said he'd meet us downstairs where everyone was waiting.
I sighed and put down the bags on the rug in front of the bed. Harry took off his beanie and ruffled his curls with a hand, the other clenched to return feeling to it.
"This is so nice," I commented. "I'm jealous."
"Don't worry. Ours will be better." Harry grinned, and I shot him a shy smile at the thought of owning a house with him. I didn't know whether he was kidding or not, but he's spontaneous and I'm really impatient and abrupt, so there could be a chance.
Smiling, I said, "If so, then I want there to be lots of white. It makes things fancy."
"And then you'll drop food on it, and then get all pissy about how it was my idea to make everything white," he remarked, shaking his head.
"Hey, that's not true. I'd say it would be your fault for actually doing it," I teased him, and he reached over to pinch my hip. Giggling, I smacked his hand away and he grinned, lip between his teeth before wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
He leaned down and kissed my lips, sweetly and softly. "I love you," he whispered, gazing down at me.
My smile widened. "I love you, too." After a few seconds, I added, "Remember that when I'm moving in with Niall."
He simply pinches me again.
We headed downstairs again to find everyone seated around an impressive fireplace, flat screen TV at a safe height above it. The envy was real. I officially don't regret driving up here and nearly killing us.
Marisol and Louis were seated together, messing around with the bag of marshmallows that Louis wanted to eat, but of course she threatened him and he stopped. Emily was sat next to Zayn. I was surprised to see Liam sitting here, laughing loudly with Zayn about some Vine they kept playing on repeat. Niall was surfing through channels while Clary and Elliot were trying to make his Instagram feed 'artsy'.
The greatest group of friends I've made, honestly.
"Oh, everyone, future Mr. and Mrs. Styles have arrived at the scene. Paparazzi flash, some bitch crying, and screams everywhere," Elliot greeted, casually waving to us.
I rushed to the couch he sat on and threw myself onto him. He groaned when my elbow accidentally hit his ribs. Amused and feeling successful, I kissed his cheek and continued to greet everyone else without removing myself from Elliot.
Harry then took a seat on Elliot as well while he complained about suffocating, but no one payed much attention to him. It was up until Elliot squeezed Harry's thigh that he jumped off him and punched his leg with discontent. I laughed and soon we allowed Elliot free.
Niall finally settled on Netflix, and we sat through a season of Friends because Zayn decided to tell us he's never watched it, and of course everyone's watched Friends before. So now we're forcing him, and I guess it's okay to force your friends into certain things.
"Hey...remember when..." Niall tried telling us, but he was laughing in between. "When Louis and I were upset we didn't see a nip slip when Serenity was fighting that girl...Wendy or whatever."
"You mean Renee?" Clary chuckled.
Marisol gazed at Louis, an eyebrow raised. "So are like my nipples not enough that you have to be excited for another girl's?" She questioned him.
Harry, who was now sipping on hot chocolate, snickered and nearly chocked as I did the same.
Louis sighed, hard glare in Niall's direction. "See, this is why opening your mouth in general is a bad idea." This quickly turned into something we were all willing to watch.
"No, no," Marisol insisted, turning to look at Niall. "Thank you, Niall. So answer my question, Louis."
"Yeah, Lulu," Harry and Zayn snickered at the same time, and then they both grew excited over saying the same thing. They proceeded to fanboy over it and bumped their fists. I watched with a shake of my head.
"I love everything about you," Louis admitted.
"Hmm," she hummed to herself, huffing afterwards. Louis shook his head and placed a hand over his face, and she says, "I'm only kidding. I know you love everything about me. I love everything about me, too."
Clary laughs loudly. "Marisol, you are me."
"Same," Elliot agrees.
Emily, who has been silent for a while, says, "You are an odd bunch. But I love you guys."
Some of us were touched. Others (Harry), were not. "Oh god, not the sentimental shit. I can't anymore." He sighs, shaking his head with a hand up in defense. I pinched his bicep and glared, which he shrugged at and proceeded to shudder at Emily's words.
"I do recall your speech at my wedding," Louis chimes, smirking. "We happen to be very important to you."
"I kinda just bailed you out of jail," Liam says.
I shook my head. "That makes you very important."
"Gee, thanks," he laughs. "You all look like people who'd get arrested, honestly."
"True," Clary called out.
Zayn adds, "What about the time I almost kicked Harry's ass?"
"Hey, if anything, I would have kicked your ass. Don't take it personal, though," Harry responds, leaned back and smug grin. As a result, Zayn scoffs, but we all see that little amused smirk coming on.
"Zayn...where the hell is Wayne?" I asked him, just now realizing that he's been out of the picture for a while ever since that party where I may have thought my life was over.
He sighs. "In Europe ever since the summer ended. He's making quite progress in business with our parents."
"I'm so glad he's not around. I was going to shove my hand into his ass and --"
"I think we all don't want you to finish that sentence," Louis stopped her, snarl of disgust on his lips.
Clary's lips parted. "All I was going to say is reach for his heart."
"That's a first. Nothing inappropriate came out of your mouth," I laughed.
She then adds, "And then I would squeeze it into jam and spread it on my bread for breakfast."
Harry places his hand on my thigh, chuckling as he asks, "Remember when I stood on your fire escape and called for your help, and eventually, you were trying to kill me with a math text book?"
"Or the time her skirt came right off in the elevator?" Clary cackled. "Harry just had to be the person waiting outside."
I sighed and leaned back, trying to avoid remembering how embarrassing that was, but it was not nearly as embarrassing anymore because now it just feels like it should have happened. Everything does. It feels like it was needed. And I find myself for the first time not complaining about it at all.
Willie swallowing birth control pills, fighting with Renee, Derek's appearance, and trying to make Emily feel better about herself to falling in love, finding myself laughing with my mother in the kitchen, learning to drive, and being in love. Shit, this was one hell of an experience.
"It's funny how things happen," I told them quietly, earning their attention. "I'm glad you've all seen me nude and high."
They groaned just as the last words spilled from my lips and Harry shakes his head. Louis laughs and says, "I thought you were going to be really sweet about it."
I shrugged. "It happened, and it's over with. I'm glad it's done."
"We're all just great examples of modern day teenage thugs, you know?" Elliot says suddenly. "But...it's okay. At least we'll have plenty to tell our grandchildren."
"You know I've heard that children turn out to be twice as bad as their parents?" Emily questioned us. "I mean, we are the kids our parents warned us about."
As if on cue, we all turn to look at her.
"That's so not true," Niall disagreed. "Well, not always."
I hummed. "It could be."
Elliot suddenly pulls out his phone, calling out, "Hey guys, get in this."
In a few seconds, we've all moved to fit into the camera of his iPhone. There were certain times where Niall shoved Louis for some space, causing the force he used to ricochet to everyone else. Pinching, whining, wincing, shoving, cackling, laughing and of course Clary grabbing Niall's ass on "accident." These are the friends I've made.
"Say cheese, everyone!" Elliot shouts.
" Cheese!"
"-- ass!"
"-- guacamole!"
"Was the last one Marisol?"
"No, it wasn't, pendejo."
Harry's lips kiss my cheek, Clary's face squished against my other cheek, Emily was standing on her toes with her face above us, Zayn next to her, Niall staring mysteriously into the camera with an eyebrow raised. Marisol was grinning while Louis threw up gang signs. And Liam smiled.
"Just take the damn picture, shithead," Harry orders with lips against my cheek.
Zayn groans, "I've got a cramp in my face."
"Clary, let go of my ass. It's not like it's free."
Elliot sighsand mutters, "Lord have mercy." He then clicks the picture.
the end
note:
i'm a puddle of tears right now. i chose to end it like this because the whole reason was to describe a story of a girl who kind of fucks up all the time, but in time she finds the right friends, the right guy, and the one thing she was missing with her family (acceptance).
and I want to thank all of you've read from beginning to end. I can't believe it's over, honestly. this is the first book i've finished on wattpad, and i hope to finish the rest. i'm literally tearing up right now.
i don't think a sequel is needed to be honest because i think the point was made and their relationship will take turns that many regular teen relationships do. so maybe it'll be up to you guys to picture what their lives would be like afterwards.
so, thank you! this is goodbye to Serenity and Harry. this has been an amazing experience.
