Chapter 6: Cat's out of the Bag
Hermione's POV:
I looked at my girls. We were an absolute mess! We had been running around the grounds for ages, it was about 10:00 now, and we left at 7:00!
We sat under a tree. Pansy pulled a vial out from her pocket. "Truth or Truth?" She smiled. We all nodded in agreement. "Ok. Rules. Drink the Vertitaserum. That's it. Then the truth will spill!"
"Me first!" Lavender squealed. She dropped a couple of drops into her mouth, then passed the vial around. After we had all taken some, we decided what question to ask her.
"How do you feel about the marriage law, and getting Ron as a spouse?" Luna asked.
Lavender blushed. "Well, he's actually been my crush for a while now, so I'm pretty happy with it! I feel horrible because I'm coming between him and Hermione, but the string is never wrong, right? I'm pretty excited about the whole wedding thing because I'll have five amazing girls with me! Not happy about the pregnant part, but overall pretty happy!" She clamped a hand out her mouth. "Shoot!" We all giggled. "My turn to ask! Hm...Ginny! What's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done?"
Ginny paled, but she couldn't help but spill the truth. "Well, it was my first year at Hogwarts, right? Anyways I really liked Harry, but he refused to date me because he didn't like me and we were like, what, twelve? Yes, he was twelve and I was eleven. I decided to send him a singing Valentine and he was super embarrassed. Then Malfoy started teasing me in front of like...uh you know, literally everybody!"
I giggled. "I remember that! When we went to our next class he said your face matched your hair, super red!" Ginny blushed even deeper.
"Er..ok..." She looked around. "Pansy! How many guys have you dated, why, and who were the most memorable!?
"At least 70. Pureblood mania. Draco, Theo, McLaggen, Flint, Grudeback." She grimaced. "All of them suck."
Luna gasped. "What about Theo!?"
"He's a dimwit." Pansy shrugged. "A hot dimwit." she giggled. "Alright, Luna, what would you change about your life and why?"
"Well, I would want my mother back." Luna looked down sadly. "She died when I was about 9. I would want her back completely, not like some ghost of who she used to be. I never got to grow up with mother-daughter bonding, and I'd really like to experience that."
"That's! That's so! Sad!" Ginny handed a weeping Lavender a pack of tissues.
"Life is life I suppose...Astoria. How often do you admire yourself in the mirror?" Luna asked.
Astoria blushed a bit. "At least fifteen minutes every morning. I wake up, get ready, then look in the mirror and tell myself that it'll be a great day! Before I embarrass myself any further, Hermione! Is there something you've wanted to tell us, and what is it!?"
I could feel the colour draining from my face. I had wanted to tell them my secret, but not like this! I, however, had no choice. Perhaps it was for the best. "Yes." I gulped, looking at each one of them in the eyes before finally saying, "I'm a...mythical being. I...can change into different animals and change my appearance." I paled as they all stopped breathing. They looked at me, absolutely stunned.
"W-what?" Ginny asked.
"Basically, a shapeshifter. Or an animagus for any animal or mythical being and a metamorphagus. However you want to say it." I looked down. "I-I'm sorry for not telling you guys earlier."
"Hey," Luna put her arm on my shoulder. "It's okay! We all have secrets that we wanted to hide, but what's important is that we know now."
I smiled at her. "Thanks, Luna."
"I just have one question..." Ginny looked at me. "Was it a...curse of some sort? I mean, I know there are a lot of curses like that and-"
I sighed. "Family curse, long ago. One of my ancestors was cursed for trying to get with a wizard. The wizard's parents cursed her to become beasts. Over time, the curse was easier to tame, and now, I can do whatever I want to do. It skips generations sometimes. My mom has it, but my grandmother doesn't. I don't use the power much, it makes me feel inhumane. To be quite honest, I didn't even know until after my 18th birthday. It just started happening and then there was a letter from my family, explaining it."
They all nodded understandingly. Ginny put her hand on mine and smiled. "Are...are you going to tell Draco? And do the others know?" Astoria inquired.
"The others don't know. I'll tell Draco when I'm ready...or possibly never. The best-kept secrets are those that are never told." I got up. "We should head back. Remember, pretend to drunk!" They all smiled at me.
"Prank...part 2!" Pansy squaled.
"To our living quarters! Ladies! March!" Ginny pointed towards the castle and started marching. I laughed, a good hearty genuine laugh. It felt so much better having this off my shoulders, but what if I had made the wrong decision?________________________________________________________________________________
"Malllllfooooooy!" I slurred, walking into the common room. My friends each stumbled through the portrait after me, laughing and stumbling as they went. I giggled a bit, this was already too funny! The boys all looked at me, absolutely terrified that I was "drunk". "Carrryy me to beeeed!" I flopped into his arms. He caught me immediately and was surprisingly muscular. I could feel his muscles flex as he moved. He picked me up, bridal style, and walked towards the stairs.
"I thought you were the one who was supposed to take care of the others?" He nodded towards my friends.
"Wwweeelllllll theyyy seeemmmed fineeee!" I giggled and rolled over. He wrapped his arms around my waist to keep me from falling.
"One second, Granger," He opened the door to our room and set me on the bed. I looked at him, and he had an unfamiliar emotion in his eyes. I clung on to his arm, why I did, I don't know, but I felt safe in his embrace.
What? I asked myself. That's weird, maybe I'm actually drunk?
"Go to bed, Granger. When you have a hangover tomorrow, don't blame me. I won't listen to you complain!" He left and shut the door behind him.
I sighed. Why was he being so nice? The old Malfoy would have snapped at me to shut up or complain to somebody else, but he had carried me up to bed. I frown at the thought. Something was definetely up, there was no way he could possibly willingly be this nice! Well...he did actually say he didn't want me to complain...perhaps he didn't change that much.
I closed my eyes, thinking of Malfoy, what I had told my friends, and everything that had happened in the past few days. Slowly, I drifted to sleep.

Draco's POV:
I hear stumbling coming from outside the portrait. Potter grabbed my arm, "Listen, you treat her right, or trust me, I'll know." He gave me one last look before openeing the portrait. Granger fell through and into my arms.
"Malllllfooooooy!" She stumbled a bit. "Carrryy me to beeeed!" Groaning, I picked her up and started towards the stairs.
She was drop-dead drunk. Wasn't she supposed to be the adult? From the corner of my eye, I saw Potter glaring at me. Gulping, I said, "I thought you were the one who was supposed to take care of the others?"
"Wwweeelllllll theyyy seeemmmed fineeee!" She slurred. She rolled over a bit, so I quickly moved my arms from around her waist to support her. I looked at her petite body in my arms. She was really light, and had a beautiful physique-
Draco Malfoy! Do not think of her like that! I scolded my self. Besides, there's no way it would ever work anyways.
"One second, Granger," I mumbled as she twisted some more. I lay her down on the bed. Her hair splayed around her face and really brought out her eyes. She leaned into my touch. I grimaced. She can't get too comfortable, I thought. "Go to bed, Granger. When you have a hangover tomorrow, don't blame me. I won't listen to you complain!" As soon as I said that, she frowned a bit. I sighed and walked out, closing the door behind me.
I noticed Blaise still fiddling with the re-mott or whatever for the telly-fission. I sat next to him, "Mate, I'm really screwed," I put my head in my hands.
He looked up from the re-mott. "Why? What's up?" He asked me.
Damn it!, I scolded myself, for the second time that hour. I'm not falling for Granger, I never liked her, and I never will! Besides, she's the Gryffindor Golden Girl!. "There's only one bed," I told him, knowing that if I had told him what was really wrong, he would have teased me for years.
He looked at me quizically, "And? You can sleep on the couch!"
A feeling of pure disgust filled me. Me? A Malfoy, sleep on the couch? Absolutely not! I shook my head, "I'll put an enlargement charm on the bed." I walked up the stairs and opened the door with the plaque that read, "THE MALFOYS", and walked into. I waved my wand and muttered, "Engorgio, bed!". Instantly, the bed doubled in length and width. I sighed, but slipped under the covers, thinking, dreaming about everything that had happened.
