42: More Arguments

Hermione's POV:

I thought about it. I knew that a lot of other beings, such as werewolves, had heightened senses when they came of age. Perhaps this being a family thing did make sense...

But what if it's not...I shrug to myself and continue to try to find a pattern. If this wasn't just a family thing, then there was probably something else that could help me.

After about two hours of searching, I frown and bite my lip. I didn't find a pattern...there was always supposed to be a pattern!

Something was definitely wrong.

"Hermione, you need to take a break." Draco calls from the doorway.

I huff. "I want to know what's going on, but I can't find a pattern!" I complain. I tenderly flip another page of the archives, just to find that I've read through them all.

"You've finished the book, come on, come to bed." Draco jumps onto the bed and pats the spot on the bed next to him. "Come one, we can worry about this tomorrow."

I sigh and put the book down on my desk. I pull off my bra from underneath my sweatshirt and hop into bed, still unused to the feeling of his body against mine. It was an unusual, but not unwelcome feeling.

"You might be overthinking this." He says after about ten minutes.

I turn over to face him, but I stay a solid foot apart from him. "Well it's an odd feeling that I don't like..."

He snorts. "There are ghosts in the castle you know, maybe the ghosts are just in the walls?"

I ponder it. "But then why do I feel eyes on me, and nobody else? You have to admit, the fact that nobody else feels it is a bit weird."

He relaxed the muscles in his face and started to think about it. "I do suppose that's weird...but it shouldn't be anything to worry about." He states confidently. "I'm sure there's a logical explanation."

I pull the covers further over me. "I hope so..."

Nobody's POV:

The birds that nested in Hogwarts chirped and flew around freely. They had no idea of the mysteries that occured within the castle nearby. Instead, they merrily sung their sweet songs and danced in the daffodils.

All was well...except for several "small" details...

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN!" Pansy shrieks.

"I mean, we went and got it-" Theo defends himself.

Pansy squares her shoulders and looks at her husband dead in the eye, glaring maliciously at him.

"Hermione specifically said not to," She hisses through clenched teeth. "And you went against her wishes."

Theo straightens his shoulders and puts his hands on his wife's petite waist. "Let's let Hermione decide, love."

Pansy sneers. "I already know her decision, you blithering idiot."

Of course, dear, caring Theo went to get the polyjuice potion from the professor's stock, but the professors didn't know this, because he made sure to leave no trace whatsoever.

"Well how could this have been done, and right under your noses!" Headmistress McGonagall scolds.

"Minerva, surely there's-" Professor Huckielle pleads.

"Nonsense, Danielle, this is stupendous!" The older woman sighs. "Please fetch Slughorn and tell him to raise his security on his private stock."

The young professor leaves McGonagall in peace, though she isn't actually peaceful. Inside, she's raging like a fiery monster, how could they let this happen!?

She stares at the once broken door that was now magically repaired, and the heaps and heaps of broken vials and spilled potions.

"What a disaster." She hisses to nobody in particular, just to the mess lying in front of her.

Back inside the dorm, a fight had broken out.

"We were trying to help!" Theo snarls.

"And Hermione said that she didn't want that sort of help!" Luna argues, extremely mad at her husband, and all those involved in the scandal.

Hermione's figure came from the shadows, almost as if she had appeared from nowhere.

"Sorry," She laughed softly, blissfully unaware of what was going on around her. "What did I say?"

Pansy smacked her husband, Theo, straight in the face. While he was recovering from his wife's recent slap, she pulled out a large tankard. Hermione gasped.

"Hermione," Harry warns. "We were just-"

But Hermione wouldn't have any of it. She pulled back her fist and prepared to bring it forward on her best friend's face, but a strong pair of arms wrapped around her body, and a deep, masculine voice told her to calm down and her them out.

"Don't jump to conclusions," Draco whispers in Hermione's ears. "Hear them out."

Hermione lowered her fist and relaxed into the body behind her, the person she would be marrying, the person who had tormented her for years, yet somehow, she didn't mind it.

"Right." She whispers.

Hermione sits next to Draco on the loveseat by the fire. Everybody else finds a seat around them, and they all start to explain.

"Hermione, we really just wanted to help-" Neville tries to explain, but is soon drowned out by his louder cohorts.

"We know that this is bothering you-" Blaise adds, a bit loudly.

"-so we were trying to find ways to fix it." Theo finishes.

"Hermione already told you that she didn't want you to nick the polyjuice potion, you dimwits!" Ginny seethes, anger prominent in her eyes. She pointed an accusing finger at Neville, Theo, Blaise, Harry and Ron as she did so.

"Well, you should shut up and listen to us before you-" Ron growled, standing up and towering over his sitting little sister. Ginny glowered at him in return, but did not have enough time to snark back at him before one of her friends beat her to it.

Astoria yanked him down and pulled out her wand. "How dare you!" She screeched.

Hermione looked around, now slightly panicked. "Guys?" She whispered, but quite urgently, getting louder with each word. "There's no need to yell-"

"She might be younger than you, but you have no right to tell her that!" Luna gasped at Ron. Normally, Luna was one to stay peaceful but now that Ron had insulted her first friend, her best friend, she was enraged.

Hermione sunk further into the comfy cushions of the love seat. Draco just looked over the situation, showing no emotion whatsoever.

"Guys, what the hell were you thinking?" Pansy howled. "You've caused a riot, nearly the whole school knows!" She accented each word harder and harder as she went to create a sense of urgency, somewhat scolding the boys, in which she actually was.

"Well we've all been looking for days and nothings come up!" Blaise snaps.

"Exactly! Only a couple of days!" Hermione finally stands up and turns to the boys. "I told you all," She points to each of them and sends them a glare that has them cowering in fear. "That I didn't want you to do so!" When the boys try to interrupt, she mimes zipping her lips and at once, they shut up. "Just drop it!"

Hermione storms off to her room, not looking back when her friends call her name. No, she's too mad to do so. Instead, she walks into her room and slams the door shut behind her, something she had been doing a lot in the past several weeks.

Down in the common room, everybody seemed to fizzle out, a bit disturbed by the frequency that Hermione was storming out.

"Sorry, Gin," Ron mumbled.

Ginny pats his shoulder. "It's okay Ron, it's okay."

"We're all concerned about 'Mione," Luna comments. "We just want the best for her."

Everybody nods in agreement, and they all silently agree to sit, not talking to one another, just staring at the fire.

Hermione stayed in her bedroom, viciously flipping the pages of a book full or archives of similar cases, yet she still couldn't find a pattern.

The mess from the private storage room was cleaned up, but still, nobody knew just who did it...and why.

The professors searched for many hours, but they could not trace any magic. Whoever had done it either didn't use magic at all, or they cleared the traces very well, so well that some of the most powerful witches and wizards in the school could not trace it.

All was well, except for the fact that it was not.
