38: A Potter's Pregnancy

Hermione's POV:

I slowly open my eyes, and a bright flashing light blinds me.

"Ah!" I exclaim, closing my eyes again.

"She's awake!" Somebody calls.

There are footsteps of what sounds like a hoard of elephants, then a lot of people talking.

"'Mione!" Somebody screeches.

Another person interrupts the first. "Thank goodness you're okay-"

"Thought you might've-"

"-three days!"

I bolt up, eyes wide. I see all my friends around me, and Draco at my side, holding my hand. I didn't notice that before, but then again, I just woke up from an apparently three day long coma!

I give him a weird look, and he blushes, dropping my hand. "Three days!" I ask them. "What about my classes!"

Ginny giggles. "Classic 'Mione, always rambling about classes!"

"They're important!" I snap. Something pops into my head. "Where's my bag!" I shoot up, sending Draco to the floor to avoid me hitting him.

I search around, then I see Harry holding it above his head.

"Nuh-uh, you just fainted!" Harry says, once again, acting like my older brother.

"Rest, 'Mione," Luna soothes. "We didn't do much, Draco's been taking care of your projects."

Draco blushes a bit when I look at him, not meeting my gaze.

I sigh. "I guess I could rest a bit more."

"That's a good idea, everybody out!" Ron pushes everybody except Draco through the doorway. Harry hands Draco my bag, and kisses me on the cheek.

I clear my throat and pick up a book on my hospital wing bedside table. "So, our project-"

"I did all the roofing, paid the company, and put in the amount of time." Draco updates me. "I've got that covered now erm...the bed-"

I twiddle with my thumbs. "Just one?"

Draco blushes. "If you want two then we can get-"

I shake my head. "The whole point of the law is to have offspring, one bed shall do."

He hands me my bag and I find everything just how I left it, perfect!

"So since we're getting mahogany flooring, which I also got, we should get a matching bed, you know?" Draco flips through a catalogue.

"I like that one." I point to a large, princess style mahogany bed.

"Then it shall be yours," Draco mutters. He pulls out the enchanted parchment and writes everything down. I notice that there's still about a fifth of what we started with left, so I start looking at things for the Great Room.

"This," I comment. "Is going to take a while."

Ginny's POV:

For the fifth time this week, I had to barf.

Lavender had been making hamburger helper, something I usually loved, but this time, yet once I smelled the meat, I went running!

Harry was too busy stuffing his face, so I don't think he noticed me. Not that I cared, I look horrible right now!

This was the fifth time this week. First time it was potatoes from the Great Hall, then it was the smell of Veritaserum from potions, the third time it was 'Mione's shampoo that I borrowed, and yesterday was pollen from the greenhouses. Now this!

Acid burns in my throat, retching, I hold my hair back until a soothing voice enters the room.

"Let it all out, Gin," Luna mutters. She takes a hold of my hair, and rubs my back.

Luna had always been the comforting friend, always there when you needed her, always making sure everybody was okay. She's been my best friend since I started Hogwarts, in fact, she was the first friend I made! Except 'Mione of course, though that was only because Ron brought her home to meet mum and dad.

Another wave of acid burns yet another layer of my throat off. Luna flushes the toilet after every wave, and mutters something to me under her breath.

"Gin?" She asks me.

"Ye-bleh!" I take some toilet paper and wipe at my mouth. "Sorry, yes?"

Luna fiddles a bit. "I hope I'm not being too nosy, but when was the last time you and Harry had...you know?"

I blush a bit. "About three weeks ago, why?"

Luna frowns. "When was your last cycle?"

I feel the colour drain from my face. "It's about half a month late...LUNA!"

I sit back against the wall. "So you might be-" She begins.

"PreGNanT!" I say through tears. It comes out as more of a strangled squawk, and she simply laughs a bit.

"Well, you're ahead of the game." She, I think, praises me. "But before we're certain, we should ask 'Mione if she can do the spell, the one that tests if you're pregnant."

I nod. "Isn't she resting, though?"

Luna nods. "But this is important, she would understand."

Luna hurries out of the bathroom and grabs my bookbag. "What are you doing?" I ask her.

Luna shoves a couple random things in. "We'll tell them we're bringing her her stuff." She zips the bag closed.

I stand up, a little wobbly. "Alright, let me wash my mouth first."

I waddle over to the sink and take a huge mouthful of mouthwash. I gargle, shake my head around, swirl my tongue, and spit it out. I put in a couple breath mints, not really, I put in like five, and left with Luna.

"Wer'b roo uhd'ing?" Ron asks.

"To give Hermione her things," I answer. It's funny, growing up with Ron, I had learned to understand what he meant, even if there was a lot of food in his mouth. (He had asked us, "Where are you heading?", for those who don't speak Ron.)

Harry nods, his mouth also full of food. "Tell her I say hi." He takes a huge gulp of water and waves at us. "See you later!"

Luna and I head into the hospital wing, and I see Hermione and Draco working on their project.

"Uhhhh..." I stutter.

"The guys wanted you, Draco, and 'Mione, we brought your things!" Luna lies swiftly. It was a bit scary how well she could lie, the words just flowed from her lips and her thin smile never wavered. She genuinely could have been in Slytherin!

Her eyes look directly into Draco's, almost as if she were warning him, and he nodded, believing her.

"We'll finish it later." He whispers to her. He packs his things, nods at us, and leaves.

I bolt over to Hermione. "Help, help, help!"

She looks surprised. "With what?"

I point to my stomach rapidly and Luna explains. "Well Gin's cycle is late, she did it with Harry, and she's constantly barfing."

Hermione's eyes widen. "Want me to?" She picks up her wand and gestures at my stomach.

"Please!" I plead with her. "I need to know!"

She nods determinedly and mutters the incantation.

I can't wait for two minutes for this bloody spell! I think to myself. Oh no, I become horrified, what if I'm pregnant and Harry doesn't want the child even though we have to have children and he just doesn't want one now then he might stop loving me but I've loved him since I was eleven when I first saw him in the kitchen of my house oh my god-

"Pregnant." Hermione whispers, lifting up my shirt. I see a glowing pink, and I feel as if I were going to faint.

I fall into the chair that Draco was sitting in, just minutes ago.

"Madame Promfrey said I was free to go." Hermione offers. "Let's go tell Harry and the others."

I stand up slowly, clutching my stomach. Pregnant, I smile to myself. I'm going to have a baby! I giggle and my two friends look at me, confused.

"I'm pregnant!" I explain. They smile at me. Hermione links her arm with mine, and Luna links her arm on my left side.

We skip and sing all the way to the portrait, who smiles at us.

"Congratulations, Miss Weasley." She says.

"Thank you, Unity." I say. She swings open and I see everybody looking at us.

"'MIONE!" Astoria screeches. She comes rushing over, nearly barreling into me.

"Whoa!" I exclaim, jumping out of the way. "Careful there, I don't feel like dying today!" I joke.

Astoria giggles. "Sorry! I'm just so happy she's okay!"

Hermione smiles. "Of course I am! Hey...to celebrate my super awesome return, let's have a family style dinner!"

Ron and Harry look up from their plates of food. "I could always eat more." Ron shrugs, looking at Harry.

"Me too, Quidditch practice is hard!" Harry exclaims.

My heart pangs. I'm pregnant now...I can't play anymore...

"Great! I'll go get something from the kitchens." Lavender says. "Come with me, Ron?"

Ron looks up after shoving another hamburger into his mouth. "Thure!"

Lavender rolls her eyes and drags Ron along.

"Let's set the table then." I pull Hermione and Luna along with me and I pull out things to set the table with. Everybody else mills around, talking amongst themselves, and I can't help but feel a little nervous.

"We're back!" Ron yells.

He and Lavender set down steaming baskets of food. I smile. Since the marriage law had begun, McGonagall has allowed us to eat in our dorm rooms instead of going to the Great Hall.

People start to help themselves with food, but nothing seems quite appetizing to me.

"Something wrong, Gin?" Harry asks from besides me.

I shake my head. "Can't decide what to start with!" I fib, feeling slightly guilty.

Harry laughs. "I'd start with the potatoes, Ron might eat them all!"

I tersely shake my head. "Oh! Why didn't I think of that?!" I pile some potatoes onto my plate and stab at one. I shove it into my mouth, even though I really don't feel like eating them.

"Then we'll play Slytherin." Ron smirks.

"Nah, Slytherin's got a much better Quidditch team!" Blaise brags, patting Draco on the back. "Cap here's training us well."

This is perfect, Ginny! I think. Tell him you-

"I can't play!" I blurt, not realizing what I was doing. Everybody turns and stares at me.

"What?" Harry asks, a little disappointed. Good going, Gin! "Why not? You're our best chaser!"

I look over at Luna and Hermione, who both nod and shoot me a thumbs up encouragingly. Come on Gin, you can do it!

"Harry...there's something I need to uh...tell you..." I start.

"What's she talking about?" Pansy hisses to Hermione. Hermione elbows her and I look back at Harry.

"What is it?" He asks, nervous, harsh, and upset at the same time.

"I'm..." I somehow can't find the words to tell him. "I'm..."

"Breaking up with him? Sorry hun, you can't." Theo says, trying to lighten the mood. Everyone chuckles a bit, except Harry and I.

"P-pre-" I stutter.

"Spit it out!" He demands, gripping his fork.

"PREGNANT!" I yell. Everybody falls silent. Nobody says a word. I look at Harry, and only Harry, but I can tell everybody else's mouths are practically on the floor right now.

"Say something!" I plead to him. He continues to stare at me, mouth agape. "Harry?" I whisper, tears in my eyes.

"I'm going to be a father..." He trails off. He sets down his fork and pulls me onto his lap. "This is wonderful Gin!" He stands up and twirls me around as our friends whoop.

I let out a strangled half-sob half-I'm-super-relieved noise. "You...you're not mad?" I ask him. He wipes away my tears.

"How could I be? I'm having a child with the most amazing woman I know." He smiles, looking into my eyes. My heart swells with happiness as he leans in to kiss me.

"OI! THAT'S MY SISTER YOU JUST IMPREGNATED!" Ron howls.

I laugh and throw a potato at him, which he happily catches in his mouth. "Well obviously, that's the whole point of the law!"

He growls. "I still don't like it."

"You'll have to owl your mum," Harry tells me, kissing my cheek.

I laugh softly. "Obviously!"

"So this is great and all..." Astoria pipes up. "But what about your wedding dress?"

I stop celebrating. I wouldn't fit into it! This was a disaster! Well of course it wasn;t actually a disaster, I loved Harry, and I was elated to be having a child with him but-

MY WEDDING DRESS!

"We're witches aren't we?" Hermione huffs. "We'll magically alter it."

I sigh in relief. "You're a lifesaver, 'Mione."

She smirks. "I know I am."

Just as I was about to retort with something funny, an elegant, pure white owl flies in and drops a letter into my hands.

What is this
