37: Two

Small A/N:

Hi guys!

I'm super sorry, but my computer has been glitching a bit. I'll be commenting something and it won't show up, so I comment again, then suddenly I've commented thrice!

This has also affected the speed at which I can write, so I'm super sorry about that!

I'm also getting a new puppy, just 8 weeks old, and she will require a lot of attention.

Because of those things, my updating schedule may become a bit slower, but I will always find the time to post on Thursdays and Fridays!

Happy reading, my lovely readers!

Hermione's POV:

I stand still, utterly shocked at what I'm seeing.

"Ron!?" I gasp.

Ron was standing there, gravy and potatoes all over himself, and kissing Lavender on the cheek. He had chocolate all over his pants, candies stuck to his shirt, and what looked like a bloody nose.

"What the ruddy hell happened!?" I rush over and start brushing the residue off of him.

Lavender giggles. "He lost a bet."

Ron huffs. "Not fair! You cheated." He accuses her.

She pouts. "I played to my strengths."

I howl in laughter. "Don't be a sore loser, Ron."

He smiles at me. "Never, 'Mione."

"So," I ask, curious. "What did you do?"

"I bet that he wouldn't say something was right because he was so stubborn," Lavender explained. "And when I told him he was only so cocky because nobody challenged him to this extent, he said I was right. So I won!"

Ron pouted. "Not fair! I never said you could," He waved his hands, motioning to his food covered body.

"Well I did," Ginny snorts.

Ron huffs. "I'll get you back, just you wait."

After the little...incident at lunch, I went back to the common room to get my Muggle Studies essay about kitchen appliances (a full two feet longer than needed, of course), and walked into the room.

It was now decorated like a bedroom would be. Pictures of her classes lined the walls, and instead of the normal brick walls, she had charmed them to be smoother than they were before, and a soft baby blue.

Professor Huckielle smiled at me. "Hello, Hermione." I handed my parchment to her.

"Hello, Professor." I watched as her eyes opened in shock.

"As always, you go above and beyond in my class." She complimented, rerolling the scroll. "Very impressive, Hermione."

I pretend to bow. "Thank you, Your Majesty."

She laughs. "Alright, alright, go to your seat now."

I giggle and head to my seat in the front row of the class. Draco comes in, hands in his essay, and sits next to me. "Wonder what we're doing today." He mutters.

I smack him. "Be respectful."

He fake pouts. "Ow!" He whines.

I just smack him again. "The lesson is starting! Shut up!"

He sighs and pouts again. "Oh how you wound me." He mutters.

"Today," Professor Huckielle explains. "We will be looking at how Muggles design their homes...and why they do it the way they do."

I look around the room and figure it makes sense. Why else would she suddenly change her room decorations?

"Every couple will be assigned identities at random." Professor Huckielle continues. "These identity brochures will contain your fake names, fake ages, fake jobs, fake salaries, and basically everything that muggles have. You will have a budget, and you must account for the amount of time it would take to do something. You will have three weeks to complete this project, outside of class."

Professor Huckiell nods at people's gasps, but simply returns to her desk. "Your identities will be your real names to make a certain part of it easier, and your salaries are based on what jobs you will most likely aim for."

She flicks her wand and instantly, a manilla folder zips towards me, nearly hitting me in the face.

Identities: Your actual names (Hermione and Draco Malfoy)

Jobs: Hermione-Ministry Worker. Draco-CEO of Malfoy Industries

Salary: $500,000-Hermione. $900,000+-Draco

Budget: $900,000

Task: Completely redo Great Room, get a new bed, redo the entire Main Floor's flooring, fix roof.

Friends: Harry and Ginny Potter, Ron and Lavender Weasley, Luna and Neville Longbottom-Lovegood, Theodore and Pansy Nott, Blaise and Astoria Zabini.

Enemies: Romilda and Cormac McLaggen

Draco laughs. "We'll make much more than that. I'm a walking goldmine."

I playfully elbow him. "It's a project!"

Harry and Ginny walk over to us. "Let me guess," Ginny monotones. "Draco's a walking goldmine?"

He laughs. "Obviously."

I groan. "Why don't we take the rest of class and figure stuff out?" I suggest.

Harry nods. "Good idea, 'Mione."

Once everybody is called over, we tell each other our information. It takes the rest of class, but we manage to tell each other everything, except our salaries, which muggles wouldn't tell each other anyways.

Of course, Draco gloated about how rich he was, and I kept elbowing him. Harry, being the chosen one, was probably going to be an auror, so his salary was going good too. In fact, everybody's jobs seemed really nice.

When we finally left, I decided to talk to Draco about designs.

"I like a darker wood," I tell him. "So mahogany wood?"

Draco agrees. "That sounds good."

"We'll have to look at roof colours," I continue. "I don't know those off the top of my head. We also need to prioritize what's most important."

"Roof first, then getting the new bed, flooring should come next, and we can do the Great Room last." Draco says.

"Perfect!" I agree. "So our budget is pretty good until you look at flooring which can get expensive-"

Draco laughs. "Hermione, we'll have plenty."

I nod slowly. "Yeah..."

"We will, trust me." Draco assures me.

"Time is another important factor." I realize. "The brochure she gave us has a charmed paper so we write what we're doing and the company we want to do it, then the price appears as well as the time."

Draco pulls out the brochure. "That's super cool." He flips through the pages and pulls out a piece of parchment with companies that could fix our roof. I look through.

"It doesn't seem like they have the exact colour..." I frown.

"We'll need a completely new one." Draco sighs. He looks up. "We have to be in Charms in five minutes, let's leave this until dinner, okay?"

I pull the brochure out of his hands. "I'm still going to look at colours."

He groans. "Isn't it easy to just...pick one?"

I snort. "Nope."

When we get out of charms, McGonagall calls for all those affected by the marriage law to go to the Great Hall. I send a confused look at Draco, but he shrugs and tells me he doesn't know what's going on.

I sigh. This whole thing is just a mess!

I walk into the Great Hall and see everybody lined up. All the girls on the right, and their spouses on the left.

I take a place in between Lavender and Ron and Katie and Jordan.

"Ladies and gentlemen," McGonagall calls. "I am very sad to inform you," She shoots a menacing glare at Kingsley, who despite being the Minister of Magic, shrinks back in fear. "That there has been another little...wrinkle in the marriage law."

She steps down from the podium and Kingsley steps up.

"Since I was last here, the Wizengamot has made another decision." Kingsley nervously fiddled with the hem of his robe. This was quite unusual because he had always been so confident, so self-assured, his confidence never wavering, until now.

"They have decided that..." I started to feel very nervous and momentarily stopped listening to Kingsley. I had no idea what was going on, and I hated the feeling.

Draco threw something green into the air and caught it in his mouth. A loud crunch echoed through the hall.

An apple. The bloody ferret was eating an apple, now?

"...that you all must produce two heirs within the next three years..." Kingsley continues to ramble on and on about it and how much he hates it, but he could only bring down the number from three to two. Thank goodness for that at least.

I space out and start to fall back. I see blurry figures swimming in my vision, and I hear whispers.

Trying to remain conscious, I reach out, but as my body hits the floor, darkness overtakes me.
