Chapter 19
Marinette still sat on the idea of revealing herself. Even if Chat Noir said everything would be fine, there was no guarantee of that. He didn't know what she was talking about.
She twirled a hair strand, contemplating her choices. She was so lost in thought that she failed to notice when the bell rang from lunch.
Marinette remained unmoving, glaring at her desk until Alya nudged her on the side.
Marinette fell off her seat, startled. Alya and Nino laughed. Adrien tried to contain his laughter as he stretched out his hand to help her up.
"How zoned out were you? I called your name like 3 times, girl!" Alya spoke.
"S-sorry," she sheepishly mumbled.
Marinette blushed in embarrassment, taking Adrien's hand. He pulled her up, and Marinette grabbed her things.
"Ready?" Alya asked. The group nodded, Marinette swinging her bag over her shoulder.
"Good! To the park!"
The group decided that at least twice a week they'd pack lunch and eat in the park.
They arrived at the park after a short walk. Alya took a blanket out of her bag and placed it on the ground. Nino raised a brow. "Aren't you worried about it getting dirty?" he asked.
Alya shrugged, "I like to sit on the ground sometimes, and there's no way I'm getting my jeans dirty! Besides, I can just wash it later."
"It does seem fun to sit on a blanket at the park," Adrien spoke.
"It's like a cute little picnic!" Marinette smiled.
"Exactly!" Alya said, sitting down.
The group sat down, taking out their lunches and digging in. It was quite peaceful. They were used to the rowdiness of restaurants filled with teenagers on their lunch break and the noisy school cafeteria. The park was calm. A few moms were there with their toddlers, but they kept near the playground on the other side of the park.
As they neared the end of their lunch, Alya's phone buzzed. She put her sandwich down and took her phone out.
"There's an akuma!" she gasped.
"What?! Where?!" Marinette and Adrien asked in unison.
Nino sighed, already knowing what was going to happen.
"It's currently a few streets over!" she stood up. "I'm going to go check it out for the ladyblog!"
The group split up, Alya to chase after the akuma, and Nino chasing Alya to make sure she doesn't get hurt. Marinette and Adrien ran off to transform.
When they arrived at the scene, they saw people walking around the streets. However, they were all gray, walking really slow. Ladybug and Chat Noir turned to each other, confused.
"They look a bit discolored, don't you think?" Chat joked. Ladybug rolled her eyes in amusement.
"What the hell happened to them?" she asked, looking around. The akuma had to be near, as Ladybug didn't see any gray people on here way there.
"Ah, Ladybug and Chat Noir, you've arrived."
Both heroes turned to face the akuma. In front of them stood a young woman. She was dressed in a full black suit, much like Ladybug's. On her right hand was a red glove, and on her chest was a broken heart. One of the heart pieces was mostly red, while the other half was entirely white. Her expression was calm, but her makeup was smudged. By the looks of it, she had been crying. Her long brown hair was a mess.
It didn't take long for Ladybug to realize this akuma had her heart broken.
"My name is Miseria. Let's not make this complicated, just give me your miraculouses," she stretched out her hand.
"As if," Chat glared.
The akuma glared back and put her hand down. "Fine, if you're not going to do it the easy way, we'll do it the hard way."
The akuma lifted her right hand, a bright white ray shooting their way. The heroes dodged, but it ended up hitting a hiding civilian. Ladybug turned to look and saw it was Alya that got it. Ladybug covered her mouth to prevent herself from calling out her friend's name. Chat didn't notice, he too, was trying to see what happened.
Alya began to turn gray, slow enough to begin to panic. When the color took over her entire body, her expression turned blank.
Ladybug turned to look back at the akuma. The red in the 1st heart piece went up. With it, it seemed her power recharged.
She aimed once more. Ladybug sprung into action, pushing Chat out of the way and behind a car.
"I think she takes people's emotions or something. The white piece in her suit turned redder," she told him. "We can't let her hit us with it."
Chat nodded before both heroes peaked from behind the car. Nino, who the heroes hadn't seen near, was also hit. The akuma turned to them, aiming her hand towards them.
Using their weapons, they both jumped to the roof of a nearby building.
"We need to come up with a plan. Considering her glove is different from the rest of her suit, that has to be where the akuma is."
"If you distract her enough, I think I can get close enough to cataclysm it."
Miseria had made her way up to the roof. Ladybug didn't spot her, but Chat Noir heard her. He turned around just in time to dodge her hit.
Having made no plan, the heroes opted for the 2nd best option: run.
The slanted roofs and chimneys of the buildings made it easy for the heroes to dodge her rays.
Miseria stomped her foot in frustration. She was too slow to catch up to them. She turned to look down the side of the building. They had made it far enough for her to find people she hadn't akumatized yet. She took aim and shot at as many people she could hit.
Ladybug took notice that she had stopped following and turned to see what was going on. The more people she hit, the redder the heart became. The 1st piece of the heart was completed, now the 2nd one began to turn red. Ladybug also noticed her recharging period decreased.
Wanting to stop her before both heart pieces were completed, Ladybug threw her yoyo, hitting Miseria on the hand, stopping her rays.
Miseria turned to glare at Ladybug.
"How rude!" Miseria aimed at her, this time being able to fire more frequently.
However, this ray was now red. Ladybug dodged it, the ray hitting the chimney behind her and denting it. Ladybug's eyes widened as she realized the akuma was now much stronger.
Ladybug jumped to another building, almost bumping into Chat.
"Where's the akuma?" he asked.
"Right behind me. We have to finish this soon! She got stronger. Her rays are now more powerful. She dented a chimney!"
"Well, we're fucked."
A ray shot past Chat, barely missing him. He flinched.
Ladybug took his hand and began to run. Miseria ran behind them, this time much faster than before.
"What's the plan?" Chat asked.
"Run until I can come up with a better one!" Ladybug replied. The heroes jumped down to the ground, hoping it would be easier to hide. That, however, was a mistake. The street they landed on was full of the akuma's victims.
"Grab them!" Miseria yelled from above. Before the heroes could jump away, they were surrounded by a large group and held in place.
Miseria jumped down, standing in front of the captured heroes.
"Who first?" she pondered out loud, changing her aim between Ladybug and Chat Noir. Ladybug noticed that the ray grew brighter and bigger as she pondered.
Her hand stopped at Chat Noir.
"You," she grinned. Chat felt a shiver run down his spine at how creepy she looked.
"No!" Ladybug yelled out. She managed to reach her yoyo and throw it to a lamp post nearby. She pulled on it, the force pulling her away from the victim's grasps and right in front of Chat.
The ray hit her, and she flew a few meters down the road.
"Ladybug!"
Chat took out his staff and used it to free himself. The ray took too much of the akuma's power, so she was forced to wait to recharge. The akuma's victim remained unmoving. With her power drained, Miseria couldn't control them either. She decided to keep her distance, knowing if she got close, Chat could use his powers.
Chat ran over to Ladybug. She landed behind a car, only her legs visible from where they originally stood. As he bent down next to her, her earrings beeped rapidly. The blow was strong enough to drain her powers down to one spot.
Ladybug pulled herself up, flinching at the pain.
Before Chat could ask her if she was ok, a bright pink light blinded him. Much to Marinette's horror, she detransformed in front of Chat.
His eyes widened. He opened his mouth to say something, but Marinette stood up and ran off before he could say anything. She ignored the slight pain she felt and ran as far as she could.

I liked her idea of a more dramatic reveal and I just had to use it. I didn't really like the other akuma anyways lol
Hope you like this new version! ♡
