Chapter 14

Marinette tapped her finger against her laptop, staring blankly at the screen in front of her. It was Saturday and they were at their usual project meeting. Marinette was going to visit Adrien that night and she was nervous about telling him she was late.

How would he react? Would he dump her? Would he be mad? Should she tell him before it's been confirmed?

"Hellooo, Earth to Marinette!" Alya called, waving her hand in front of Marinette's face.

Marinette jumped back, startled. Luckily, she was sitting on the bed, so her laptop landed safely on the soft comforter.

The boys both turned to look at her confused while Alya raised a brow.

"You good, girl?" Alya asked.

Marinette swallowed nervously, her heart beating almost painfully against her chest. She wasn't sure if that was from the scare or her nerves.

She nodded hesitantly.

Alya frowned, Nino and Adrien now having somewhat concerned looks.

"Are you sure?" Adrien asked. Their friendship had started to grow and improve. Adrien did feel genuinely guilty for the way he had treated her, so he tried his best to fix it.

Marinette nodded, fixing her position on the bed and reaching for her laptop.

"I'm fine, you guys. I'm just a little stressed, that's all. My mind drifted, and I got a little spooked," she replied.

Alya didn't seem to believe this, but a look from Nino made her reconsider saying anything else. She sighed before turning her focus back to her own laptop.

Time flew by, and Alya and Nino had already left. Marinette was getting ready to leave too when Adrien stopped her. He reached out and grabbed her shoulder.

"Are you sure you're ok?" he asked. "You looked pretty lost in thought back there."

Marinette felt extremely nervous under his gaze. The spot under his hand felt hot.

She nodded nervously, looking away.

"I j-just have a lot on my mind, that's all," she managed to squeak out.

Adrien frowned at this. He removed his hand and Marinette visibly relaxed. This didn't go unnoticed by Adrien, but he decided not to comment on it.

"I know our friendship isn't the best, and I almost ruined it, but you can trust me. I'm still here for you, and I'll always be here for you," he spoke softly.

Marinette swallowed before turning her gaze towards him. To her surprise, his face was full of concern. Her cheeks were dusted with a soft blush, and her eyes widened slightly. He really did care about her, about Marinette.

"I know. Thank you, Adrien. I'm glad our friendship is getting better. But truly, I'm fine. I just have a lot on my mind," she smiled.

Adrien's expression softened, but the concern in his eyes wasn't gone.

"Well, if you need someone to talk to, I'm here for you, ok?"

She nodded, "Thank you. Bye, Adrien."

"Bye," he waved as she turned around and walked out.

.

Marinette grabbed a small purse and some pads. She still hadn't gotten her period but was hopeful. Since it was difficult for her to see Adrien (as Ladybug) during the week, she decided to at least start spending the night over.

Tikki sat on Marinette's desk with a concerned look on her face.

"Marinette, are you sure you're ok? Your friends sounded really worried about you. I'm worried too," the kwami spoke.

Marinette sighed, closing the purse.

"Yes, I am. I'm fine," Marinette stressed the last word.

Before the kwami could offer anymore rebuttal, Marinette called out her transformation.

She could feel the kwami's concern but shrugged it off.

Ladybug climbed up to her trapdoor and made it out to her balcony. She stood there for a moment, feeling the cool breeze.

She was nervous. More so than last time. But what could she do?

Taking in a deep breath, she took hold of her yo-yo and made her way to Adrien's house.

Much like usual, the window was open slightly for her to enter.

Adrien was sitting on his bed, scrolling through his phone. He looked up at her with a smile when he heard her step in.

He stood up, letting his phone drop onto the bed. He made his way over to her and took a hold of her hands.

"Hey," he grinned.

"H-hi," she squeaked out.

His grin faltered, and thoughts of his earlier encounter with Marinette popped up.

"Are you ok?" he asked.

Geez, am I so readable? Ladybug thought.

She swallowed nervously, trying to gather up the nerves to tell him. She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came out.

Adrien could see her eyes start to tear up, and he immediately cupped her face.

"Hey, hey, it's ok. It's ok. You don't have to tell me if you're not comfortable," he spoke softly.

Ladybug could only nod as she tried to blink away the tears. Adrien gently pulled her towards the bed before proceeding to lie down and pull her down with him.

Ladybug placed her purse to the side before she cuddled up to his chest, hiding her face. She felt extremely embarrassed. There was a chance she was pregnant with his child, but she couldn't gather the courage to tell him.

But she didn't know 100%. So was it bad to stall?

She didn't know.

Ladybug pulled away after a few minutes to excuse herself to the bathroom. She made sure Adrien didn't see her face. She probably looked like a mess.

Adrien sat up and stared at the bathroom door. He was more worried about her now. Something was up, but it seemed like she didn't want to tell him. It pained his heart to know she was going through something but couldn't tell him what.

After a few minutes, he noticed the door open slightly. He saw her bare hand, meaning she was detransformed.

"Um, Adrien? C-could you hand me my purse?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. He noticed a change in her tone. It wasn't as nervous anymore.

"Sure," he replied, standing up to look for it. When he found it, he grabbed it and walked over to the door, handing it to her. She blindly reached out for it before muttering a quiet thank you and closing the door.

Adrien stood there awkwardly, not knowing why she asked for her purse. After a few moments, he went back to sit on the bed.

Another few minutes passed, and she opened the door, transformed. He noticed she was more relaxed now, and she had a small smile on her face. Her shoulders weren't as tense, and she walked more confidently back to the bed.

She placed her purse down on his desk before sitting down next to him.

Ladybug had gotten her period. She wasn't pregnant!

She was over the moon. She felt a weight was lifted off her chest.

Adrien raised a brow, "Feeling better?"

She nodded, sighing happily.

"What had you so worried that you're fine now?"

Adrien saw her visibly tense up, and her smile faded. She looked away nervously.

He took a hold of her hand. "Please tell me whenever you're ready, ma petite coccinelle," he spoke.

Marinette felt guilty. Even if she wasn't pregnant, was it still a good idea to tell him? This was her boyfriend. Who else was she going to open up about it? She certainly couldn't tell Alya.

Ladybug nervously placed her hands on her lap before turning to look up at him.

"I-I was late," she spoke. Her heart beat painfully against her chest.

"Late?" he asked, not understanding.

She took a deep breath to calm herself down before continuing.

"Yes... for my period," she muttered, looking away.

His eyes widened.

"B-but I just got it!" she quickly spoke up. "S-so I'm not p-pregnant!"

"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You were late this whole time?" he asked, wide-eyed. "But you're on the pill, right?"

She nodded quickly, "I am! It's so strange for me to be late so I was panicking. I took three pregnancy tests but they all came back negative."

Adrien felt guilt begin to set in. This whole time she thought she was pregnant, and he had no idea. She was silently suffering through that both as Ladybug and in her civilian life by herself.

"I'm such an idiot," he ran a hand through his hair.

"Wh-what?" she turned to look at him.

"I shouldn't have- this is my fault. I'm such an idiot. I put you through so much stress! And I had no idea!"

"Adrien, don't blame yourself. I'm fine! I'm not pregnant, it's ok!" she placed her hand atop of his.

He sighed, "Please don't keep stuff like this from me again. I don't like knowing that you're suffering alone because of me. I know our relationship is new, but we're in this together."

She nodded, "I will, I promise."

"Should I buy condoms? Is it even safe for us to continue having sex without them?" he asked.

Ladybug shrugged, "I-I don't know. I'm going to book an appointment with my gynecologist, and I'll ask her."

"I think I'll buy some anyway. I don't want to risk getting you pregnant. It'll be good to have them as a backup."

"Good idea," she nodded.

Adrien leaned down and gave her a soft kiss. Ladybug's heart fluttered as she kissed back.

"Let's go to sleep. You must've had a stressful day," he said softly, resting his forehead against hers.

"Ok," she smiled softly.

Marinette went to sleep that night, feeling loved and overjoyed. She wasn't pregnant, and she had a loving boyfriend.

~~~~~~~~~~
I didn't want to make her pregnant lol, but I did want to add a scare just to add in a little drama lol
The reasons for her being late are stress and the physical workout she gets as Ladybug. Even though the suits are magical, she has been transforming more, so it could be affecting her more than usual.
