Chapter 15

I found myself at the top of the Astronomy Tower, sitting on a window ledge and looking out over the lake.

I heard footsteps. I assumed it was Severus so I ignored it.

But it wasn't.

"Verita?"

It was Draco.

"Yeah?" I said back, weakly.

"What happened? I saw you crying," Draco asked, moving closer to me. He sat opposite me.

"My Boggart's changed a lot since third-year," I laughed but it wasn't real.

"Oh?" Draco replied.

"It used to be the girls at Beauxbatons poking fun at me," I told him, breathing heavily, "Now, it's the person I like with some woman I don't even know."

Draco frowned, "Snape?"

I nodded slowly. There was no harm in him knowing since he was one of the Death Eaters anyway and I told him it was true in class.

"Well, he's meant to have the same feelings, isn't he?" Draco said, moving into a kneeling position and shaking my shoulders, "Ask him who the heck it is! He's got to know. He wouldn't be with just any woman!"

"You're right," I sniffed, looking down at his chest.

He hugged me tight, and told me, "We're friends, okay? If you have a problem..."

He trailed off, so I said, "I know. I'll come find you."

"You're welcome," Draco smirked before walking off.

I stared off into the forest again, studying the rays of moonlight that reflected off of the water which seemed black in the lack of sunlight.

Maybe that's why it's called the Black Lake, I thought to myself.

"What a touching sight," a sarcastic voice rang in my ear.

I turned to the man I liked himself, giving him a glare. I took Draco's advice.

I sniffed my tears away, wiping my cheeks clean while facing away from Severus.

Then I turned back around and asked in an almost intimidating tone, "Who was she, Severus?"

"I..."

"Tell me! Now. I deserve to know. You know how I feel about you," I urged.

"I don't," he argued. "You say you want this to be real, but how am I supposed to know what that implies?"

I stared at the black-haired man in disbelief, "You don't know what that means?"

"Not particularly," Severus replied, his eyes trailing to the moon. It reflected into his eyes.

"I kissed you in that dream for a reason," I said boldly, "I like you."

"But how? As a teacher? As a friend? As what I'm pretending to be?"

His eyes seemed vacant of their usual emotionless stare. Instead, Severus' expression was full of confusion and to some extent, hurt.

"I like you! I have a bloody crush on you, what more do you want me to say?!" I shouted.

"I..."

"We're like the moon and the sun, Severus. I want to be a part of you so desperately, but there is that time of day when we change over and we only meet briefly. And that woman is the barrier between us, isn't she?" I closed my eyes as I spoke, staring out to the moon.

"Lily," he answered, "Her name was Lily."

I waited for him to speak again, "Her name was Lily Potter - Harry Potter's mother."

"How did you know her?" I asked softly. I knew she was dead, she was Harry's mother and everyone knew that about Harry Potter. I just didn't know what she looked like.

"School," he replied simply.

I smiled sadly, "Can you forget her?"

"Forget her? No," he told me.

He moved closer to me, hands trailing over my arms, "But I can remember you."
