Lucy hugged her knees, not wanting to move from her spot.
"Are you done hiding?"Natsu asked, wanting her to just be comfortable around him as she was when she wasn't believed to be dead, how she was when she was in Fairy Tail,"I won't do anything."
Lucy shook her head, tightening her hug on her legs, hiding her face in them.
Natsu's eyebrow raised, squatting down to her,"Are you really afraid of me?"he asked, her head lifted up a small bit. Enough for her to see him. He got the answer from the small tears running down her cheeks, starting to feel somewhat guilty, but also a bit of pity for her.
His hand messed with his hair in frustration, not knowing what to do about the situation.
He didn't know 'this' Lucy. He'd never seen Lucy afraid of him before, never seen her curl into a ball in fear. Never had to chase after her. Not once had seen her in a hooded cloak, hiding away from people in such a shy way. Or even seen her lose her memory.
In his prior knowledge of Lucy Heartfillia, she was deceased and buried all the way on Tenro Jima Island.
He sighed heavily, squatting to the ground in front of her, confused,"How are you alive?" he question, looking to her with a hurt look set onto his face.
"I don't know, I woke up on a rock after Floyd and Aatos saved me. They told me the found me injured and my skull severely injured,"Lucy admitted in a small voice, "Prior to waking, I don't remember much else. Except for some voices."
"You were definitely dead, I know that for sure. We checked so many times hoping for at least maybe by some miracle, you'd still be alive,"Natsu put his hand up to his chin in thought,"Maybe we should go see Fairy Tail-"
"No,"Lucy interrupted quickly,"I only agreed for your help, not your guild's."
"They were also part of your past, they can help."
"If I see them, they only will make me worse."
"Let me at least tell them! You were apart of our family."
"That doesn't matter. They'll want answers I can't give and want to see me!"Lucy sighed,"Trust me, I do badly want to see them somehow. But seeing them now will only make this harder."
Natsu hung his head in defeat. He wanted to help not make her worse. What exactly was he suppose to do on his own? He hadn't made much thought on helping except that was what he was going to do, but how?
"Lucy-"
"My name is Mai,"Lucy corrected.
"Alright,"Natsu stood up,"Lucy, what do you want to do?"
Lucy shook her head,"I want to get back to Floyd and Aatos. They're probably worried, the sun is rising."
"Then we should go to them,"Natsu put out his hand for her to take. She looked at his hand before getting up herself, refusing his hand.
She walked past him, but couldn't go much farther because Natsu grabbed her wrist, stopping her.
"Before I go with you, there's one little stop I need to make,"he stated.
"Make it quick, Floyd and Aatos are going to be worried,"Lucy sighed. Natsu let go of her wrist, beginning to walk down the alley with Lucy behind him. She brought her hood over her head, slowly as she glanced around to see her surroundings in the unknown part of the city.
They were both silent as they walked down the street, people still sleeping or either just awaking.
"Where are we going?" Lucy asked, looking to the side, seeing all the buildings and morning people, shops just beginning to open and restaurants ready to serve people breakfast.
Natsu stopped midstep, making her bump into him from how close she was walking behind him, "We're going to eat,"he stated, looking around the different restaurants to see which one would be a good place. Lucy looked up at him, seeing his eyes scanning the place. She opened her mouth, letting out a sharp gasp as she lifted her hand, pressing it against the side of her head as another migraine set in, making her vision become a bit blurry.
"Natsu!" a voice from a distance called out. Lucy raised her head, seeing a woman with scarlet hair and a glare in her brown eyes, a frightening aura emitting from her making a shiver crawl up her spine.
"E-Erza!" Natsu jumped.
"Where were you? We've been looking for you since you never came back last night!"the woman asked, stopping in front of the pair, arms crossed. Next to her was another man, one Lucy recognized as Gray Fullbuster, she talked to him before. On the other side of the scarlet haired woman was a small blue cat standing on two legs with a green sack tied around it's neck as it rest against it's back.
Lucy's eyes widened, just now recognizing the scarlet haired woman as Erza Scarlet from the Grand Magic Games. Seeing her fight was a sight to behold, seeing Erza fight put Lucy in awe when she watched.
"I was stretching my legs,"Natsu answered.
"All night?"Gray crossed his arms.
"Shut it Ice Freak,"Natsu growled at Gray.
"What did you say Pinky?"Gray retorted.
"You heard what I said Droopy Eyes,"Natsu provoked, Gray growled, clenching his teeth together.
"You two better not be fighting... again," Erza glared at them both making them stand straight and shake their heads. Erza shook her head, her gaze adverting over to Lucy with a curious look,"And who are you?"
Lucy looked up at her, gulping, not sure of what to say. She looked over to Natsu, seeing him too busy glaring over at Gray to even notice. She looked back up to Erza, her vision becoming more blurry.
"Aren't you Mai?"Gray asked, looking over at Lucy.
"You know her?"the blue cat spoke, turning to him.
"We talked a bit the other night,"Gray shrugged, looking over at Lucy with an unreadable expression, "It was... A nice talk."
"Well then, Mai, it's nice to meet you," Erza held out her hand for Lucy to shake in greeting, "I'm Erza."
Lucy hesitantly raised her hand, unsure if she should take Erza's or not. Yet, a voice saved her from the decision.
"Mai! There you are!" a familiar voice called, making her jump and turn her body; facing the direction she heard her name.
Floyd, he was alone and breathless as he walked toward the small group of people around the girl he had called for.
"Who are you?" Gray asked, eyeing him.
"If you must know, I am Floyd," Floyd turned his gaze over to Mai, "Come on, we should get back before the train leaves."
"Yeah," Lucy nodded, beginning to walk towards Floyd. But she didn't make it even halfway to him. Her body collapsed to her knees, before she could fall back, Natsu's arm caught her. Her hood slipped, making her hair fall gracefully. Her face was so pale, her eyes twitched in pain.
Gray, Erza, and Happy's eyes widened at the sight of her. Their heart becoming unsettled by her appearance.
"That can't be," Gray took a step back in shock.
Floyd dropped himself on the other side of Lucy as Natsu continued to hold her.
"I was afraid of her collapsing," he sighed, he lifted his arms, "I should take her back to the inn to rest more."
Natsu's fingers tightened on her shoulder, "Where ever Lucy goes, I go as well," he stated. Floyd raised his brow.
"It's Lucy," Erza's voice became breathless as she sat besides Natsu, staring down at Lucy, "I can't believe it, but... She's here."
"Lushie," Happy spoke with a tearful look.
" 'Lucy'?" Floyd brought his hand to his chin, "You all... Know who Mai is?"
"I don't know who Mai is, but this girl is Lucy," Natsu spoke, "Though she did mention 'Mai', I wasn't listening."
"We should get her somewhere more comfortable for her to rest," Floyd stated.
"I agree," Natsu lifted Lucy from off the ground, holding her close to him.
"Nashu, how are you not surprised?" Happy asked, looking up at him, "We were there when she-"
"I was surprised. But I found out earlier, that's why I didn't go back to the inn," Natsu explained.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Gray asked, his fingers curled into his palms making fists.
"Because she didn't want anyone else to know," Natsu stated.
"Well now we do, so we're coming with," Erza stated, looking towards Natsu then gazed to Floyd, "Sorry, but we'll be tagging along. I have questions that need answering."
