Chapter 33: I Care About You
"Luna... Come here..." Celestia said softly, getting her daughter's attention as she knew the time for this conversation had finally come. "I want to show you something..."
A younger Luna ran inside, her bare feet tapping against the wooden floor as she followed behind her mother. A few turns here and there and they were headed down a hallway that Luna didn't recognize. Suddenly her mother stopped, sliding the paper door in front of them open as she entered the small room before shutting the door quickly behind them.
"Mom, there's nothing in this room..." Luna trailed off as she watched in confusion while her mother kneeled down, lifting up the bamboo mat in the corner of the room as a small latch was revealed. Celestia grinned as she opened the secret compartment, pulling a large, old looking book out before glancing up at her daughter.
"Nothing? This is the history of our people..." She said proudly, standing up while holding onto the ancient text carefully. "Our races legends, prophecies... Our wisdom and magic..." She went on, looking into her daughter's eyes with excitement as she was happy to have this knowledge to pass on to her.
She handed the book to Luna, smiling down at her as she held it in her hands, opening it up randomly as her eyes went wide at what was drawn on the pages. A beautiful goddess with long silver hair was staring back at her, cherry blossoms floating around her as the moon could be seen shining in the background as well.
"She's beautiful..." Luna whispered, unable to take her eyes away from the illustration as she noticed the weapon the woman in the picture was holding. A massive bow made out what seemed to be light...
"Mom, what is tha-"
A loud rumbling outside interrupted her sentence as the ground began to shake, the older woman's eyes going wide before turning back to her daughter. The sound of someone screaming echoed down the hallway as Celestia pulled her daughter close, gesturing for her to keep quiet as the sound of explosions drew nearer. More screams could be heard as someone running down the hallway was followed by a deep laugh as a bright light slammed into whoever was trying to escape. Luna gasped, dropping the book in her hands before clinging to her mother's dress as loud foots steps drew closer, passing the room they were in slowly before disappearing.
Celestia grabbed the small girl's wrist, pulling her out the door quickly as they headed towards the door leading to the mountains behind their home. She yanked her daughter around a corner, thick clouds of smoke suddenly filling the air as they both coughed, seeing flames up ahead as Luna screamed. It was starting to get unbearable as the walls around them were crumbling quickly... The silver haired woman knew this was their only chance of escape as she pushed through, seeing their exit up ahead.
"Hurry!" She gasped, sliding the door open quickly as they both exited their home quickly. Luna coughed while running behind her mother, trying to catch her breath as they sprinted towards the path to Ryuuto's. Another explosion made the ground beneath their feet tremble as Luna looked back, her eyes going wide as she saw her home, engulfed in flames as multiple other buildings had shared the same fate. An insane laughter filled her ears as her mother's scream pierced the night air, the young Acaiian turning around just in time to see her mother fall to the ground in front of her.
"MOM!"
Luna awoke with a gasp, her eyes going wide as she took a few deep breaths, trying to calm herself down.
A dream... It was just....... A dream... She sighed, pushing herself into a sitting position as she noticed it was already dark out. Bits of moonlight could be seen through the trees as Luna stood up and started walking, not really sure of where she was going or why.
Why do I keep having these nightmares? She thought to herself, wincing in pain as she remembered she had yet to heal the majority of her wounds. At least now she had a bit more energy after taking her little impromptu nap...
She walked until she saw a clearing up ahead, the full moon coming into view as she noticed a large cliff overlooking the scenic valley below. "Wow..." She mumbled, jumping over a couple large boulders as she found a flat rock to sit on, a gentle breeze rolling by as she sighed. "This is amazing..."
Luna was unaware of how much time had passed as she sat there, thinking about her life up until this point. I do still miss them... She thought, smiling faintly as she thought about the happy times on Acaii. But I'm so lucky I have my friends here on Earth... Luna smiled as she thought about them all.
I can't let any of them down...
She sighed, figuring it was time to go as she willed her healing energy into her hands, knowing she definitely couldn't show up to Goku's house looking like this. In a matter of minutes, she was almost done taking care of most of her injuries, looking better already as she started breathing heavily.
I guess I don't have as much energy as I thought I did... Luna huffed, taking a break as she sighed, falling backwards against the cool stone underneath her. I don't mind sitting out here under the moon a little longer... She thought, opening her eyes to stare at said moon but finding an irritated green face staring back at her.
"I hope I'm not interrupting your little moonlit vacation..." Piccolo grumbled, frowning as he looked down at her surprised face.
"P-Piccolo! I- I didn't even sense you there!" Luna stammered nervously, scrambling to her feet as the Namekian just stood there with his arms crossed as she rambled on.
"I'm sorry about training... I know I said I'd be back sooner... And I wanted to be! But things got crazy... I was trying to help Bulma, and then I ended up training with Vegeta for a few days in the gravity simulator-"
"So that's why you're like this..." He interrupted, noticing she was still sporting a few bruises on her legs. "Tch, Vegeta..." Piccolo growled, thinking about how irresponsible it had been of him to let her leave in that condition.
"What?" Luna questioned, looking up at him with one eyebrow raised as he shook his head before glaring back at her.
"Your energy. It's too low..." Piccolo grumbled, frowning at her as she obviously didn't get it. "What if you were attacked right now? You barely have enough energy left to completely heal yourself and you're just sitting out here alone! Unguarded!" Piccolo lectured, wishing she would think about the consequences of her actions.
Luna sighed, knowing he was right. She really should have just stayed at Bulma's until she was completely healed... The Earth was generally a safe place, especially for people like the Z Fighters. But still, anything could happen...
"Sorry Piccolo... I know, it was stupid to leave when I did..." Luna admitted, looking down at the ground for a moment as she kicked a small rock with her bare foot. "I just wanted to get back here quickly once I realized how long I'd been gone... And I thought I could make it. Then I passed out and-"
"What?!"
"N-nothing!" Luna said quickly, not wanting him to know how bad it really was as Piccolo eyed her skeptically.
"It's fine... Just make better decisions next time, alright?" He said seriously, knowing that probably wasn't going to happen.
"Yes! I will..." Luna agreed, glad he wasn't upset with her anymore. "I promise!"
"Good." Piccolo smirked, placing his large hand on her shoulder as Luna looked at him in confusion for a second. He transferred some of his ki to his hand, looking up at the night sky as Luna felt a warm energy giving her new strength. She smiled, realizing what he was doing as she looked up at him, very amused with the purple color tinting his cheeks as he tried to seem very interested in the moon above them.
I'm glad I can count on you Piccolo... Luna thought, wrapping her arms around the man next her as she surprised him with a sudden hug.
"Uhh..."
"Thank you Piccolo..." Luna said honestly, giggling to herself as the man in her grip was obviously uncomfortable.
Heh heh... He's so cute when he's nervous... She thought with a grin, her eyes going wide as she played that sentence over and over in her mind. D-did I just say that I think Piccolo is... Cute?! Luna realized, staring up at him with her emerald orbs as he glanced back with an unsure look on his face. It was obvious he wasn't used to having anyone this close to him...
"I- I just mean, thank you for caring..." Luna explained nervously, pushing herself away from him a bit as she looked up at his face. "You came out here to find me... I'm just glad I have you as a friend Piccolo..." She finished, smiling up at the fighter before stepping back, feeling a bit flustered.
"You're my friend too Luna..." Piccolo answered awkwardly, not knowing what else to say as he really thought about it. "You and Gohan are probably the only two people on this planet I can stand to be around for more than two minutes... If that counts for anything..." He grumbled, looking away from her for a moment as he focused on giving her some of his energy.
Luna smiled brightly, realizing how much Piccolo cared about the little Saiyan... Her heart practically jumped for joy as she realized he had basically just said he cared about her in the same way...
Calm down Luna! This doesn't change anything... We've got work to do... She told herself, feeling Piccolo pull his hand away as she grinned up at him, realizing she was back to one hundred percent.
"H-heh, I'm glad..." Luna said happily, trying to will the redness away from her cheeks as something tickled her foot, making her look down for a second. "What the..." Her eyes went wide as she froze, spotting the tiny bug crawling across her toes before absolutely losing it.
Piccolo covered his ears as she screamed, not prepared for her to nearly tackle him to the ground as she jumped onto his shoulders. Luna clung on to his cape, trying to hide in it as she latched onto his back while looking around in panic.
"IT CRAWLED ON MY FOOT! IT CRAWLED ON MY FOOOOT!" She screeched, searching for where the creepy eight legged monster had landed. "KEEP THAT THING AWAY FROM ME!"
Piccolo growled, trying his best to yank her off of him before finally giving up, looking around and seeing the tiny spider crawling across the grass in front of them.
"A spider?" He mumbled, glaring up at her with a frown. "You can fight someone like Frieza... But you're scared to death of a spider?" He said sarcastically, giving her a look that said he thought she was crazy.
Luna peeked over his shoulder, catching another glimpse of the spider as she gasped, hiding behind him as Piccolo smirked, getting an evil idea... He bent down, a devilish grin creeping across his face as he grabbed a handful of grass, dropping it behind him as it went right down the back of Luna's dress. A millisecond later he was laughing wildly as she screamed bloody murder before taking off into the night sky.
Wait until Gohan hears about this... Piccolo thought, laughing to himself as he chased after her...
