Chapter 31: Visiting The Briefs
It had been a few months since the mysterious boy from the future had come and gone, and ever since that day, Luna had been training with Goku, Gohan and Piccolo at the Son House... All of them using every precious moment they had to perfect their skills. It was on a particularly nice day that the phone to said house rang as Chi Chi ran to answer it...
"Come on! You're too slow!" Goku taunted, dodging Luna's kicks and punches like they were nothing. "Maybe you should take a break..."
Luna jumped back, frowning at the dark haired man in front of her as she clenched her jaw in irritation. "Maybe I should just kick it up a notch..." She said seriously, glaring at the Saiyan as he smirked back.
"HAAA!" Luna shouted, her energy level sky rocketing as her eyes changed from green to silver. Her lavender hair became a bit lighter as a brilliant silver aura surrounded her. "I'm gonna kick your Saiyan ass back to Vegeta..." Luna said teasingly, powering up a good sized ball of ki in her hand as she smirked.
"And I don't mean the angry prince..."
Goku actually chuckled, teleporting out of the way as she fired her attack right where he was standing only seconds ago. "Phew... That was clo-AH!" The man wheezed, barely avoiding a vicious kick to the face before grabbing her leg as it swung past him.
"There's the fire!" Goku commented, his tone playful as the lavender haired girl in front of him used her other foot to kick him in the chest, launching herself a few feet away as they stared each other down.
A second later they were both gone, moving incredibly fast as they exchanged blows. Piccolo was meditating not too far away, occasionally opening one eye to peek at their sparring session as he found himself unusually distracted. He blamed it on Chi Chi for not letting Gohan come along for training today, saying that he had 'more important things to learn about'...
"Tch, ridiculous..." The Namekian grumbled to himself, watching the two fighters above him going at it as he smirked. She's improved a great deal in such a short amount of time... He thought, glancing at Luna while remembering what little control she had over her powers on his home planet.
But will it be enough?
"Luna!" Gohan shouted, getting everyone's attention as he flew towards their training grounds. "You've got a phone call!"
"I've got a what now?" Luna said in confusion, both her and Goku putting their sparring session on hold as they landed back on the ground.
"Yeah, mom said Bulma wants to talk to you..." Gohan explained before looking towards his father. "Oh, and she said lunch is ready too-"
"Alright!" Goku cheered, his mouth beginning to water as he sprinted towards their house, Luna, Gohan and Piccolo right behind him.Chi Chi handed the phone to Luna as soon as she got in the door as her husband and son immediately started chowing down on their lunch like there was no tomorrow. Piccolo assumed his usual position underneath the tree outside as he listened in on what was happening.
"Hi Bulma!" Luna said excitedly, interested to find out what her friend had been up to for the last few months. "How is everything?" She asked, pausing for a moment before speaking again. "Oh, well that doesn't surprise me..." Luna said with a laugh, grinning in amusement as she watched the two Saiyans shovel food into their mouths.
"So does that mean that you... Oh, I see... Wait, what?! Why me?" She stuttered, her eyes growing wide as she listened to her friend's plan. "I don't really see how that would help... Hmm... Alright, I'll see you in a bit..."
"What did Bulma want?" Gohan asked, swallowing a huge mouthful of food as he reached for another bowl of rice.
"She said I should come visit her for a little bit..." Luna explained, handing the phone back to Chi Chi. "It has been a while since I've seen her... And she said she needed my help with something..." She mumbled, grabbing herself a glass of juice.
"You deserve a break!" Chi Chi remarked, grinning at her warmly. "You've been working so hard lately... And when you get back, I promise I'll make you a special treat!"
"Do I get a special treat too Chi Chi?" Goku questioned, glancing at his wife innocently as she frowned.
"When you start helping me around the house, you'll get one!" She growled as Goku pouted for a moment before returning his attention to the plate in front of him. "Now, run along dear... We'll see you later!"
Luna smiled, heading for the door as she thought about what Bulma had told her. I'm not sure if her plan is going to work... She thought to herself, knowing it was definitely a long shot. But I do owe her one... Well, more than one....... How many cakes has she made me again? Luna shook her head, about to take off when a deep voice interrupted her thoughts.
"I hope you're not thinking about ditching on our training tonight..." Piccolo grumbled, looking at her seriously as she waved her hands in front of her nervously.
"O-oh... Well... It'll only be for a couple of days..." Luna explained, trying her best to ignore the angry look he was giving her. "Bulma really needs my help... It could be important..." She went on, sounding strangely serious before returning to her cheery self again.
"Anyway, I'll try not to be gone too long... I'll see you later Piccolo!" Luna finished, smiling at him quickly before taking off as he watched her go.
Tch, it better be important... Piccolo frowned, thinking about how much time had gone by already. Three years will be gone before we know it...
...
Meanwhile, at the Brief's compound...
...
Yamcha was in the front yard training, Puar coaching him on as he practiced his kicks and punches.
"Come on Yamcha!" Puar squeaked, "I know you can go faster than that!"
That Vegeta... Yamcha thought to himself with a frown as he glanced towards the training capsule that was sitting not too far away. He thinks he's so tough in that little capsule of his... Training at three hundred times gravity... Well, I'll show him that he's not half as tough as he pretends to be! I'll show him that I can be just as tough as he is! He thought, stopping his training as Puar looked at him in surprise.
"Let's take five Puar... I wanna see what Vegeta's up to in there..." Yamcha mumbled, walking over to the capsule as he floated up towards one of the windows. Both of them glanced inside, looking around as Puar spoke up.
"I guess this is what they mean by 'taking it to the limit'... Right Yamcha?"
"Quiet Puar! And keep your head down..." Yamcha hissed as they both continued to eavesdrop.
"Initiate gravity simulation. Three hundred times planet's normal gravity." A robotic voice stated as multiple hovering drones surrounded the Saiyan warrior. "Initiating defense program... Level five. Assuming defense formation."
Vegeta growled, fighting against the crushing weight of the gravity in the room as he spun around, firing a blast of energy at one of the drones. The ball of ki bounced from machine to machine before heading right for the Saiyan, missing his face by inches as he dodged.
I can do this... Vegeta thought to himself, clenching his fists together as he growled. I'm a Saiyan... I'm the most powerful warrior in the universe!
Yamcha and Puar watched with wide eyes as the Saiyan continued to dodge the computer's attacks, all of them coming incredibly close to hitting him as Vegeta pushed himself to the limits of his powers. Suddenly the ball of energy changed course, striking him in the shoulder as he fell towards the ground. Vegeta's eyes went wide as the attack followed him, slamming into him as the explosion bathed the whole capsule in a white light. Puar and Yamcha covered their eyes, jumping back instinctively as the whole capsule shook from the force of the blast.
"Whoa..." Yamcha mumbled, staring at the capsule as the light finally started to fade. "Unreal..."
"What are you guys doing?" Luna asked innocently, surprising both of them as they turned around to see her hovering behind them. "Did you come to train with Vegeta too Yamcha?"
"Uh... N-no..." The dark haired man answered quickly, a bead of sweat rolling down the side of his face. "I think his training program is a little too intense for me..."
"Hmm... Okay..." Luna said, sounding a bit disappointed as she glanced over towards the door of the capsule as it opened, seeing the Saiyan appear. "Hi Vegeta!" She said happily, sending him a small wave as she noticed he didn't really look to excited to see her.
"Hmpf... What are you doing here?" The Saiyan growled, glaring at her as she grinned.
"I just thought you might be a little bored..." Luna explained, shrugging her shoulders as she went on. "Maybe you wanted someone to spar with?"
"Well you thought wrong..." Vegeta growled, sending a deadly glare towards all three of them before continuing. "What I need is to train without anymore interruptions! Now get lost!"
Luna frowned, tilting her head to the side in confusion as she watched the prince disappear, the door to the training capsule slamming shut behind him.
"Not off to a great start..." She mumbled, sighing as she headed towards the house to visit with her friend.
...
The next day...
...
Bulma sighed, flipping through her magazine boredly as she looked up for a moment, smirking in amusement as she watched Luna staring at the pictures in the magazine she had given her curiously. "Everyone else is working so hard to get ready for those androids while I'm sitting around the house doing nothing!" She said finally, getting Luna's attention as she looked up.
"I wish there was something I could do..."
"You're still helping Bulma!" Luna reminded her, thinking about everything she had done just to help her. "What about my armor? And the training capsule?"
"Yeah, I guess you're right... I'm just nervous..." She admitted, staring at her friend seriously as Luna sent her a reassuring smile.
"Hey, don't worry! It's all going to be fine..." Luna said confidently, "Goku, Gohan and Piccolo have gotten so much stronger since you last saw them..."
"Bulma! Luna!" Mrs. Briefs called happily, walking into the room with a large tray.
"I stopped by the bakery today and look what I bought for us!" The blonde woman said with a smile, placing the tray of miniature cakes and treats on the table in front of both girls as she took a seat next to her daughter. Luna was practically drooling on herself as she stared at all the different sweets, her eyes shining as she thought about which one she would choose.
"Nice, huh? Don't they look scrumptious! Hehehehe!" Mrs. Brief giggled, glancing at the purple haired girl as she looked back at her daughter. "Now... Which one do you want?"
"There all yours guys... I'm not very hungry..." Bulma answered, sounding a bit depressed.
"What? But Bulma, what's wrong with you? Are you feeling lonely because all the boys are spending all their time training and not spending time with you? That's it, isn't it dear?"
"Oh please!" Bulma shouted, frowning at her mother as she tossed her magazine aside. "I'm just not very hungry!"
A yawn from the doorway got their attention as Mr. Briefs walked towards them, stretching his arms above his head. "You know, I'm starting to think that Vegeta is a few cards short of a full deck..." The lavender haired man mumbled, exhausted from staying up all night to fix his training equipment.
"Huh?"
"It wasn't enough to have the simulator create three hundred times gravity for him..." The man explained, glancing at his daughter as he went on. "Now he's demanding that I make some more equipment for him to train with... And all he's going to do is break it!"
"Somehow that doesn't surprise me at all..." Bulma mumbled, frowning slightly as she thought back on her experiences with the Saiyan so far.
"Well, I think it's great he works so hard!" Mrs. Briefs chimed in, grinning at the both of them as they stared back in confusion.
"Sure, he's training hard... But don't you think he's overdoing it a bit?" Her husband asked, staring at his wife curiously as Luna munched on her cake while listening in on their conversation.
"Oh no... I think it's very admirable..." The blonde woman smiled, taking a sip of her tea before continuing. "In my day, a man that showed that much dedication to anything was definitely husband material... A girl would have to be crazy to let him get away I tell you..." She mumbled, covering her mouth with her hand as she blushed slightly.
"Oh my, what am I saying? I'm a married woman!"
Luna laughed, nearly choking on the bite of cake in her mouth as she thought about what Trunks had told Goku.
Well, he's not going to be going very far... She thought with a smirk, excited to see what would happen between her friend and the Saiyan warrior as time progressed. I wonder what's going to bring those two together eventually...
Bulma and her father just stared at the blonde woman, blinking a few times as they were unsure of what to say.
Suddenly a loud explosion from the back yard made all four of them jump as they raced outside to see what happened. Bulma gasped, seeing the training capsule her father and her had worked so hard on blown completely apart. Pieces of metal and debris from the ship were scattered across their yard as Luna hovered over the wreckage, looking for any sign of the man that had been inside.
"Vegeta!" Bulma panicked, running over as well as she kneeled in front of her now destroyed ship.
"What was that?!" Yamcha asked, Puar right behind him as they both stopped dead in their tracks once they saw the smoking remains of the capsule. "I knew this would happen!" The dark haired fighter finished angrily, glaring at all the damage the Saiyan had caused. "He's been trying to do the impossible!"
"W-Where is he?" The blue haired woman asked shakily, looking up at Luna as she floated over a large piece of the ship, tossing it to the side as she saw something moving underneath. "V-Vegeta?"
Suddenly a hand shot out from underneath all the wreckage, making Bulma scream in shock as she jumped back, knocking Yamcha over in the process. Both of them watched with wide eyes as the Saiyan pulled himself out of the rubble, his whole body covered from head to toe in cuts and bruises as he tried to catch his breath. Luna shook her head, landing on the grass next to Yamcha and Bulma as she grinned, noticing how concerned her blue haired friend was.
"Y-you okay?" Bulma asked, still in shock as she watched the fighter try to stand up on shaky legs before glaring back at her.
"Of course I am!" He grunted, sounding completely exhausted as he tried his best to act tough.
Bulma sighed in relief, her face remaining calm for a second before frowning at the spiky haired man. "Rrgh... How dare you, you dweeb! You almost wrecked my house! What are you trying to prove?!"
Vegeta smirked at her, chuckling for a moment before falling backwards into the wreckage as he passed out.
"Wha? Oh no! You're hurt!" Bulma gasped, rushing over to his side as she tried to help him sit up.
"No... I don't need help... I've got training to do..." Vegeta hissed, glaring at her weakly as she frowned back at him.
"You've got to stop training for a while! I mean look at you! You're a complete wreck!" She argued, hoping he would agree to take a break.
"But I feel fine... I'm a Saiyan! I can take a little pain, it means nothing to me... And I have to get stronger than Kakarot!"
"Okay, sure... We all know you're a tough guy but you need to rest now-"
"I take orders from no one!" Vegeta growled, trying to stand up before passing out yet again.
Bulma just sighed, looking to her friends as they stared back, not really sure of what to do.
"Come on, let's get him inside..." Luna said finally, smiling at Bulma as she helped her carry him. "I'll have him back to normal in no time!" She promised, smirking deviously for a moment as an idea suddenly came to her. "Though, we could just leave him like this for a while and let him rest... You'd have some peace and quiet for a bit-"
"Luna!" Bulma shouted, frowning at her friend as the purple haired girl laughed nervously.
"Alright, alright!" She said quickly, not expecting the woman to be that defensive about him already as she grinned. "I was just kidding!"
