Chapter 30: Driving School
A few weeks later...
...
Luna sat in the shade of a large tree, resting for a moment as she watched Gohan, Goku and Piccolo fight it out above her.
He's improving so much... She thought, staring at Gohan as he held his own against Piccolo. Even though she knew he wasn't using his full strength against the boy, he had still come such a long way since their time on Namek. Incredible...
"HAAA!" Gohan shouted, blocking an attack from Piccolo as they turned around at the same time, each of them sending ki blasts towards Goku. The Saiyan just smirked, both attacks missing him by seconds as he used his new technique to teleport away as both beams of energy collided in a giant explosion.
"H-he's gone..." Gohan mumbled, looking around as the smoke cleared while trying his best to sense his father's energy.
Piccolo's eyes widened as he jumped to the side, barely dodging a punch from the man as he threw a jab of his own, smirking at he felt his fist brush past something. Gohan could only watch in shock as his father reappeared, both warriors sporting two matching cuts on their cheeks as they stared each other down. Goku chuckled as both of them smirked before taking off, moving faster than the eye could see as they fought.
"Wow, they're moving so fast I can barely see them!" Luna said in awe, grinning to herself as she noticed Gohan observing with wide eyes as well.
"That's it!" The younger boy said suddenly, knowing where they would be next as he jumped in the fight. Piccolo stopped mid punch, smirking at his student as he attempted to go toe to toe with his father.
"Hey Gohan... You're way too slow..." Goku teased, grabbing his son's arm as he kneed him in the stomach before sending him flying, watching proudly as he spun around and charged back at him. That's my boy...
Luna sighed as they continued their sparring, laying back on the soft grass as she let her mind wander. All of this training and fighting... Maybe one day we won't have to fight anymore... She thought wistfully, staring up at the clouds as memories from her home planet danced across her mind.
I miss those peaceful times...
...
Later that day...
...
"Hiya mom! Look what I caught for you today down at the pond!" Gohan said excitedly, placing the giant fish right in front of her. "Just in time for dinner!"
"More fish... That's great." Chi Chi sighed, trying to sound positive.
"Ew..." Goku mumbled, taking off his sweaty training clothes and throwing them across a nearby chair as Gohan did the same. "Come on Gohan, let's go take a bath..." Goku said, completely oblivious to how irritated his wife was becoming.
"Ugh! My clothes smell like fish!" Gohan laughed, grabbing a towel for himself as he headed towards the backyard.
"Hey Chi Chi, could you give these clothes a wash?" Goku asked, not even bothering to look back as he headed for the door as well. "We worked up quite a sweat today..."
"Rrgh... HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!" Chi Chi shouted, sick and tired off doing everything herself around here. "Now let me get this straight... You expect me to get dinner ready AND wash you clothes while you and Gohan relax in a nice hot bath?!" She asked angrily as everyone stared at her, unaware of the wrath that was about to be unleashed on them all.
"Well that's not gonna happen mister! Do you even care what kind of day I had?! I don't know what I liked better... Being chased halfway home by a wild boar or walking the rest of the way on my tired, aching feet!" Chi Chi screamed, "And it's all because we don't have a car!"
"Uh, Chi Chi... I'd drive you if I could but you know I don't have a driver's license yet..." Goku stated, blinking at the woman in confusion.
"Well it's time you got one!" She shouted back, not falling for his attempt at sounding innocent. "I don't know why you have to be the only man in this town who doesn't have a driver's license or a car!"
"You can't drive, can you?" Goku asked, turning around to look at Piccolo as he grimaced.
"Hey, leave me out of this!" The Namekian said defensively, glaring at Luna as she started laughing.
"I want all of you to put your training on hold for now and go to driving school tomorrow!" Chi Chi ordered, sounding like she wasn't messing around this time.
"Does that mean me too?" Luna questioned, wondering what this 'driving school' even was.
"Yes." Chi Chi stated, crossing her arms as she smirked. "I think it's about time the three of you learned something useful for a change..."
"Say what?!" Piccolo growled, one of his eyes twitching in irritation as he wondered if this woman had lost her mind.
"Aww Chi Chi... Do we have to?" Goku whined, staring at his wife as she glared back seriously.
"Listen, all I'm asking you guys to do is get your driver's licenses... It's not like I'm asking you to save the world..."
Goku, Piccolo and Luna stared at Chi Chi with wide eyes as Gohan glanced back and forth between everyone.
"And if you don't..." She went on, turning around as everyone listened. "You'll have to cook your own meals from now own, understand?!" She finished, glancing back at them for a moment as Goku and Luna nodded vigorously.
...
The next day...
...
"Oh man... Piccolo, where did you get those clothes?" Goku mumbled, staring at his friend who seemed less than pleased with the situation. Instead of his usual training attire, he was wearing a yellow t-shirt with a pair of blue jeans and sneakers, along with a backwards baseball cap.
"Your wife got them for me....... Out of your closet." Piccolo grumbled, frowning at the man as he watched Luna pulling at her dress awkwardly out of the corner of his eye. Chi Chi had dressed her as well, making her look like a smaller version of herself as she had even taken the time to do her hair in a similar fashion.
"Oh, uh... Sorry about that..." Goku said nervously, scratching the back of his head as he looked over at Luna for a moment. "Chi Chi means well... Listen, since we're here... Let's get this over with..."
"Sounds good to me." Piccolo agreed, ready to be done with this nonsense as soon as possible. "Of course I'm still not sure how I got suckered into this in the first place... She's not even my wife!"
"Hey, I had to come too!" Luna pouted, frowning as she pointed down at her feet. "I put on shoes for this!"
Piccolo grunted, about to say something in response when three people walked up to greet them all. An balding old man, a happy looking brunette and an anxious looking young man with glasses.
"Alright, which one of you is Goku?" The elderly man said, looking up from his clip board at all of them.
"Oh, I'm Goku!"
"Ah... I'll be your driving instructor today..." The old man wheezed, coughing viciously as Goku watched him with wide eyes. "Let's go..."
"I-I take it you're Luna?" The younger man stuttered, adjusting his thick black glasses as he introduced himself. "I'm Takashi... T-this way, please..."
Piccolo rolled his eyes as he led her towards a car, grinning at her stupidly the whole way. He didn't event notice the other instructor walking up to him as she cleared her throat, getting his attention at last.
"Hiiii there... You must be my student!" A soft voice said as the brunette smiled, "You're Piccolo, aren't you?"
Piccolo just stared back, wondering what the hell he had gotten himself into as the strange woman kept talking. How did I ever let myself get into this mess...
"We're going to start with the basics for your first lesson... I'm going to demonstrate proper driving technique... So please pay attention." Cynthia said happily, getting into the car and closing the door behind her as Piccolo did the same. "First of all, always remember to fasten your seat belt..." She said sweetly, watching as Piccolo clicked the metal pieces together before waiting for her next instructions.
The curly haired woman started the engine, gripping the wheel tightly with both hands as a wicked smirk crept across her face. "Heh heh hahahaHAHA! YEAHHHH! BURN RUBBER!" Cynthia shouted, a wild look in her eyes as Piccolo looked over in shock. "Listen to that engine! You know what that sound is?! POWERRRR!" The woman screamed, slamming her foot on the gas as the car sped forward.
"YEEEHAAAWW!"
Piccolo shouted in surprise as he watched them go faster and faster before screeching to a stop in front of a red light.
"A-Are you sure you know what you're doing?!" He grumbled nervously, looking over at his instructor with wide eyes as she growled, waiting for the light to change green.
"Come on, come on! YEAHHH!" The woman cheered, stepping on the gas again as they shot forward, flying down the road as Piccolo held on to his seat for dear life.
...
Meanwhile, back at the Son house...
...
Gohan sighed, already bored of studying as he looked at all the papers and book in front of him.
I wonder what everyone is doing right now... He thought, picking up his pencil as he began to doodle on his notebook. I bet whatever it is, it's more fun that this homework...
The young Saiyan grinned as he looked at the drawing he had made of his dad, Piccolo and Luna all riding in a car together. Maybe I could go see what they're up to....... Just for a little bit... A sound at his window made him jump as he looked over, sighing in relief as he realized it was only Icarus.
"Hey! What are you doing here Icarus?" Gohan chuckled, petting the lavender colored dragon as it licked him across the face happily. "Hahaha... I can't play right now! I have to study... Oh, wait! I've got an idea..." He laughed, smiling at his animal friend as Icarus tilted his head cutely.
"I'll only be gone for a little bit..." Gohan promised quietly, smirking as he jumped out the window and onto Icarus' back. "Come on, let's go!"
...
Back at Driving School...
...
"You're driving too fast! You've got to slow down! Step on the brake!"
"I- I thought I was stepping on the brake!" Goku stammered, looking down at the steering wheel nervously as another car was heading right for them.
"Aaaaaah!" The old man screamed, his eyes nearly popping out of his head as Goku desperately wrenched the wheel to the side.
"Hang on Mister!" Goku shouted, the car tilting to one side as his door skidded across the pavement. Other student driver's were flying past them on the road as Goku continued to drive the wrong way down the street, his driving instructor screaming at him the entire time.
"Aaahhhh! Just step on the brake!" The old man shouted, waving his clipboard frantically as the Saiyan next to him started to panic.
"The brake? Uh... Now which one was that?" Goku mumbled, pressing his foot down on the peddle farthest to the right as the car accelerated into an oncoming tunnel.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Cut the ignition!" Yuzukar screamed, shutting his eyes tightly as he was certain they were both going to die.
"Huh?"
"CUT THE IGNITIIIOOOOONNN! HURRY!"
"Um... Okay..." Goku replied, not sure how that would help anything as he powered up one hand.
"HAAAAAA!" He yelled, chopping the steering wheel clean off as the old man sitting beside him looked over in horror. "Now what?" The Saiyan asked innocently as the car flew out of the other side of the tunnel, bursting through a guard rail before landing in the lake. Water began pouring in through the doors as the car slowly sank.
"I know that was kind of a rough start..." Goku mumbled, scratching the back on his head nervously as he glanced at his instructor. "But how long before I get my license?"
"Son... At this rate, it'll take you a hundred years..." Yuzukar sighed, staring ahead with a blank expression.
"But that's too long! I still have to get in shape for a big battle against two killer androids and Chi Chi's gonna kill me if I don't get my license..." Goku continued talking even though the car was sinking as the old man next to him wondered how it was possible that he hadn't had a heart attack yet today...
...
Meanwhile, in the car with Luna...
...
"Slow down!" Takashi screamed, gripping his clipboard for dear life as he watched the crazy woman next to him, her purple hair whipping behind her wildly as they flew down the track. "Slow down before you break the sound barrier!"
"Woooo!" Luna laughed hitting the brakes as she turned, accidentally knocking over some cones as she gasped. "Oh no! Please don't count that against me!" She pleaded, looking over at the man in the passenger seat with her big emerald eyes as he fumbled with his clipboard.
His cheeks turned a bit pink as he stared at her, suddenly remembering what was happening. "A-ah! W-watch the road!" He stammered, looking forward again as he saw they were headed straight for the pond. "T-turn! Turn!"
Luna's eyes went wide as she spun the wheel to one side, drifting into the grass a bit as they narrowly missed the water. Hmm... Is that Goku? She thought, seeing a yellow car sinking out in the middle of the pond as she gunned it, her car's tires connecting with the road once more as she giggled.
"That was a close one, huh?"
The boy next to her just nodded, pushing up his glasses as he wrote down a few notes shakily. "O-okay Miss Luna... Please make a left up here..."
Luna did as she was told, the corner of her mouth tilting upwards in a smirk as she noticed who was driving in front of her...
"Really Mr. Piccolo... You're a natural!" Cynthia said sweetly, smiling at him as he concentrated on the road.
"Heh, no sweat..." The Namekian smirked, noticing the blue car Luna was driving was catching up. Luna smiled as she drove up next to them, the young boy in her passenger seat looking quite anxious he tugged at the collar of his shirt.
"Woohoo! Hahaha! Eat my dust Piccolo!" She laughed, passing them quickly as she sped off down the road.
"Is that a challenge?!" Piccolo shouted back, narrowing his eyes as he stepped on the gas pedal. "Well if it's a race you want, it's a race you'll get!"
"That's more like it!" The woman next to him said happily, grinning as Piccolo growled, his car slowly catching up to the one in front of him.
Both cars blasted through the driving course, passing other student's as they desperately tried to get out of the way. Gohan and Icarus had just arrived, both of them glancing across the track as they saw two cars approaching fast.
"Look! Here they come Icarus!" Gohan smiled, recognizing Luna's vibrant purple hair as her car whipped past him. A second later Piccolo's car flew past as well as he noticed his father was a little farther behind. "And there they go..." He mumbled, waving to his dad as he sped past.
Both cars drifted around the turn, Luna in front as she swerved across the road, trying to keep Piccolo from passing her.
"I'm going to win!" The lavender haired girl cheered as her instructor screamed at her from the passenger side.
"It's not a race!"
Piccolo growled, finally seeing an opening as he drove up next to Luna's car, smirking over at her as he took his eyes off the road for one second. Before he knew it, he was going up as his lane had diverted up a large hill, taking him farther from the end of the course.
Rrgh... No way! He thought to himself, wrenching the wheel to the side as his tires left the road and ripped through the grass.
Luna glanced behind her, not seeing Piccolo's car anywhere as she noticed that Goku was still a ways back. "Heh, I've got this in the bag!" She cheered, her eyes glued to the finish line as she grinned victoriously.
"L-Look out!" Takashi shouted, getting her attention as she looked over, finally noticing the car heading down the hill towards her.
"That was very impressive driving Mr. Piccolo..." Cynthia commented as bits of grass and dirt flew at Luna's windshield.
"Hey!" Luna shouted in shock, accelerating quickly as their cars bumped against each other on the road. Both of their driving instructors screamed as the two of them jockeyed for first place, neither of them noticing Goku's car flying up behind them at an alarming rate.
"Look out guys!" Goku shouted, unable to stop as he crashed into them both, sending all three cars flying into the air as Gohan watched with wide eyes. When the smoke cleared, all three cars were completely totaled as Piccolo, Goku and Luna floated above the wreckage.
"Luckily these two are going to be okay..." Goku said in relief, carrying the passed out old man in his arms as he looked over at Luna and Piccolo who were carrying their respective instructors as well. The young man driving with Luna was clinging to her neck tightly as she hovered there, scratching her cheek nervously as she looked down at all the damage they had caused.
"Am... Am I hallucinating?" Takashi stammered, completely mind blown that they all were just flying right now like it was nothing unusual.
"Um... I don't think so?" Luna answered simply, glancing at the nervous looking boy apologetically as she lowered them both to the ground. "Sorry about your cars..."
Goku, Piccolo and Luna just looked at each other with mixed expressions as Gohan facepalmed, shaking his head at his father and friends.
Maybe doing all that studying wasn't so bad after all...
...
The next day...
...
All three of them were back again, standing in the rain as they met with their driving instructors once more.
"You three are by far the worst students that have ever attended this driving school!" Yuzukar shouted, glaring at Goku, Luna and Piccolo as they all listened to the old man quietly. "I'll give you one more chance... But any more stunts like the one you pulled yesterday and I will see to it that you NEVER get your driver's licenses!"
Luna nodded seriously, gripping her umbrella tightly as she knew she had to stay focused if she wanted to keep having Chi Chi feed her. Think of the cake... Just do it for the cake Luna... She told herself, her eyes narrowing in determination as everyone began walking towards their cars. The rain was starting to come down harder as all three of them made their way off the course and onto a rocky road.
"Very good Miss Luna..." Takashi said in surprise, noticing how much better she was doing today. "You're really starting to get the hang of this..."
Luna smiled, following Piccolo's car down the road as she noticed Goku's vehicle up ahead of them. A bolt of lightening struck some where not too far away, following by a loud rumble of thunder as they all made their way down the narrow mountain pass.
"Boy... This road sure is treacherous..." Goku mumbled, swallowing nervously as he gripped the wheel. Up ahead a bus full of school children was coming down the mountain, all of them dressed in yellow rain slickers as they waved at the approaching cars.
"Hi!" Goku smiled, waving back as the old man next to him shouted.
"Both hands are not on the steering wheel! Minus one point!"
"Y-You're testing me now?! Goku stammered, looking over at his instructor as Yuzukar glared back.
"Your eyes are off the road! That's one more point!"
"No fair!" Goku whined, looking ahead suddenly as a strange feeling made him narrow his eyes. The Saiyan slammed on the brakes, stopping the car in it's tracks as the elderly man next to him started shouting again.
"Hey! What's the big idea?! You almost snapped my false teeth out!" He shouted, gripping his pen angrily as he scribbled another note on his clipboard. "That's ten points! So there!" He finished angrily, noticing the man next to him didn't even seem to be listening...
Suddenly a bolt of lightening struck the side of the mountain, dislodging a few large rocks as they tumbled down towards the bus of school children. The boulders crashed into the side of the bus, pushing it closer and closer towards the guard rail as Luna gasped, hearing screaming up ahead.
Luna hit the brakes, throwing the car in park quickly as she got out just in time to see Goku jump through his windshield. He really needs to learn how to use doors... She thought in frustration as she saw Piccolo kick the door right off his car as he got out. Him too...
She looked up the road in confusion, just in time to see the bus ahead of them get pushed over the side of the mountain as Goku and Piccolo dove after it. All three driving instructors gasped, getting out of their vehicles as well as they watched the vehicle tumble down the rocky cliff before it stopped suddenly.
Luna smirked as she jumped across the road, flying over head as she spotted her friends holding up the bus from below as they both pushed it back up towards the road.
"Way to go guys!" She cheered, flying up next to the bus windows as she waved at the children inside. All of them looked completely shocked to see her as one of them jumped, banging on the window and pointing behind her. Luna frowned, turning around just in time to see more rocks rolling towards them as she flew above the bus, landing on the roof before shouting down at Goku and Piccolo.
"Hang on you guys!" She yelled, powering up a ball of energy in her hands before blasting it towards the debris headed their way.
"HAAA!"
A huge flash of light lit up the entire area as everyone watched in awe as the boulders were turned to dust. All three driving instructors smiled in relief as Goku and Piccolo set the bus back down on the pavement as the rain began to dissipate. All the children on the bus cheered, smiling and waving goodbye the three fighters before continuing on their trip.
"Bye kids! Take care!" Goku shouted, waving back at them before glancing back at their teachers who were just looking at them strangely. Luna landed next to them with a small grin, letting out a sigh as she smirked.
"Now that was a close one..." She said, glancing at Takashi as she noticed he seemed a bit pale.
"I'm sorry sir... I guess we didn't get to finish the test..." Goku apologized, walking up to his instructor as he scratched his head. "And I turned your new convertible into a compact... What a disaster..."
"Hey, don't sweat it..." The old man replied with a smile, surprising them all.
"You mean you're not going to totally freak out or something?" Goku asked with wide eyes, wondering what was up.
"Hah, no way! Not after witnessing that terrific rescue!"
"Oh, heh heh... Does that mean I might still get my driver's license?" The Saiyan asked hopefully as everyone waited for the man's answer.
"Not a chance." Yuzukar replied nonchalantly, smiling at the man as he continued. "You're a danger to everyone else on the road!"
"What about me?!" Piccolo growled from behind them all as everyone looked in his direction.
"Ehh... Nope!"
"Then... We both failed?" Goku mumbled, gulping nervously. What's Chi Chi going to say? He thought nervously, imagining how mad his wife would be when she found out.
"Heh heh... Neither of you passed but so what?" The old man laughed, grinning at all of them. "I'd trade my driver's license in a second for a chance to fly!"
"So would I!" Cynthia chimed in, giggling over Piccolo's shoulder as he frowned.
"Well, I passed....... Didn't I?" Luna asked innocently, walking over to her driving instructor as he fumbled with his papers.
"Um... Well, I don't think-"
"Please! You have to give me my license or Chi Chi's never going to cook for me again!" Luna cried, grabbing onto the dark haired man's arm as she choked back a dramatic sob, her emerald eyes beginning to water as she looked up at him.
"A-ah, a-alright..." Takashi stammered, his cheeks flushing red as he tore up her scorecard. "You were only a few points away from passing anyway s-so I guess I could give you a break... Heh heheheh j-just this once-"
"Mister Komuro! Do you really think that's a good idea?!" The brunette exclaimed, frowning at her coworker as he scratched his head nervously.
"She wasn't that bad... Honest!" Takashi argued in her defense, smiling down at her as she cheered.
"Yay! Thank you! Thank you so much!" Luna cried happily, throwing her arms around the man and planting a kiss on his cheek as his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. The poor boy nearly fainted as a small bit of blood trickled out of his nose.
Goku laughed nervously, watching Luna dance around happily as he grinned. "Well, at least Chi Chi won't be too mad now that Luna can drive her around..."
"Yeah, I just worry about the other people on the road." Piccolo grumbled as Luna shot him a dirty look, raising an eyebrow at him as he smirked. Goku burst out laughing, shaking his head as he noticed Gohan and Icarus watching them from the sidelines.
"Gohan! Look what I got!" Luna said excitedly, showing him a small card with a picture of her smiling brightly on it and a bunch of other words she didn't understand. "I'm not sure what it says... But, it means I can drive a car now! So, what do you think? What to be the first person to ride with me?"
"Uh... I think I'll stick to flying..." Gohan answered nervously as everyone had a good laugh. Luna pouted, sticking her tongue out at her friends playfully as she smirked.
"You guys are no fun..."
