Chapter 29: Another Challenge On The Horizon
"And that's the whole story..." Piccolo finished, everyone looking at him in shock as they listened to his words. "In three years, all of us except Gohan are supposed to die in a battle with the androids... But now that we know, maybe we can change that."
"What a kook... He's cracked!" Yamcha laughed, unable to believe someone could actually be strong enough to defeat them all. "Don'tcha think?"
"I'm not so sure..." Bulma said lowly, wondering if it could really be true. Everything else the young fighter told them had come true...
"He's been right so far..." Luna chimed in, looking around at all her friends seriously.
I wish it wasn't true... She thought to herself, a shiver going down her spine as she recalled Trunks' words. I don't want to see anyone get hurt...
"Believe what you want to believe..." Piccolo grumbled, knowing exactly what he was going to do. "As for me, I want to live. So I'm going to train... You can risk it, but I'm going to be prepared..."
"Look, there he is!" Yamcha said, pointing up as everyone looked at the strange ship floating above them. Trunks waved goodbye to them all, looking at his mother and father for a moment longer before pressing a few buttons and disappearing back to his own time.
"He's gone..." Krillin muttered in confusion, wondering if this day could get any weirder.
"Yeah, back to the future..." Piccolo rasped, knowing they all had precious little time...
"How strange... I could have sworn he was waving goodbye to me..." Bulma mumbled, unable to explain why she felt so suddenly attached to the strange boy. Gosh... Goodbye whoever you are...
"Man, I'm going to train you guys..." Tien said seriously as Chiaotzu nodded his head in agreement.
"Me too." Yamcha chimed in as everyone else agreed.
"Yeah, I am too..." Krillin mumbled as Gohan smirked up at him, nodding as well.
Another Super Saiyan... Vegeta thought with a growl, grinding his teeth together as he fought to stay calm. I've got to have it... I've got to experience it! He cursed internally, wondering how low class rejects like Kakarot were able to ascend to the legendary transformation of his people before him, the prince of said race...
Luna frowned, still slowly processing everything she had learned today. Vegeta and Bulma... She thought, her face slowly changing from confusion to amusement. I can't believe those two are going to have a baby! Trunks... Luna thought happily, giggling to herself as she realized there would soon be a cute baby to play with.
"Wow... Gosh dad, do you really believe that guy came from the future?" Gohan asked, interrupting her train of thought as she glanced over at both of them.
"Yes I do son... Yes I do." Goku answered confidently, staring up at the sky for a moment before looking back at all of his friends. "By the way... I can teleport!" The Saiyan announced happily, flashing them all a huge smile before vanishing and reappearing a second later wearing a pair of shades. "Check it!"
Luna's eyes went wide as she watched him show off his new ability as everyone else seemed just as shocked.
"But aren't those..." Krillin mumbled, trailing off as he recognized the red sunglasses he was now wearing.
"But Master Roshi's on the whole other side of the world!" Yamcha shouted, not believing he was actually able to move that fast.
"Yep yep!" Goku confirmed with a smile, adjusting the glasses on his face as he continued. "I just have to imagine him and poof! There I go! Learned it out in space..."
"Oh yeah... Sorta forgot the obvious question there but HOW DID YOU SURVIVE?!" Krillin asked suddenly, as everyone waited for his response.
"Yes, tell me Kakarot..." Vegeta said curiously, frowning towards the man as he went on. "Exactly how did you escape from Namek anyway?"
"Oh yeah, that's right... Frieza's ship was wrecked, wasn't it?" Yamcha asked, looking towards Goku. "King Kai told us there was no way you could have survived when Namek exploded... We thought you were a goner! How did you get away?"
"Where there's a will, there's a way." Goku answered seriously, staring up at the sky as he recalled what had happened. But there were moments when I didn't think I'd make it... The Saiyan thought, remembering what had happened in those last few minutes on the planet.
Everyone listened as he told them about how he thought he was done for when he couldn't get Frieza's ship to work but suddenly, saw another ship falling past him.
"It must have belonged to the Ginyu Force..." Vegeta concluded, watching as the dark haired man nodded once before continuing his story.
"Whoever it belonged to, I knew it was my only chance... So I went for it..." Goku explained, "There was no time for me to plot a course so I just fired up the engines and punched it! I made it off Namek with just a couple of seconds to spare..." He said, realizing what a close call it had really been. "The only problem was, I had no idea where I was going... The next thing I remember is crash landing on some strange planet light years away from Namek... It turns out I had landed on the planet Yardrat... And the inhabitants were really friendly... They were kind enough to nurse me back to health and they even repaired my spaceship! So, once I was strong enough to make the journey, I packed up and headed home..." Goku finished with a grin.
"That may explain where you've been all of this time... But there's still a few things I'd like to know!" Vegeta said seriously, smirking at the Saiyan standing across from him before he continued. "For starters, where did you get that absurd looking outfit?"
"It's the latest fashion on planet Yardrat!" Goku said simply, looking down at his clothes for a moment. "I guess it does looking a little strange... But at least it's not pink!"
"Rrgh! Nevermind! Who cares about your stupid clothes anyway!" Vegeta hissed, realizing he was wasting time here with these idiots.
"So, if you could teleport... And you knew Frieza was coming....... Why didn't you teleport to Frieza's ship and stop him?!" Yamcha questioned, staring at his friend as he smiled back.
"I kinda wanted to give you guys a chance..." Goku replied, wondering why everyone looked so surprised.
"Please don't make a habit of that..." Piccolo grunted, frowning down at the Saiyan as he watched him smile goofily.
"No promises."
"Looks like we'll have to put ourselves through the training of our lives if we hope to stand a chance against these androids..." Tien commented seriously as Bulma suddenly got an idea.
"Wait, I've got it!" The scientist said excitedly, looking around at all her friends before she continued. "We don't have to do any of that! Hear me out... We just have to gather the dragon balls, have the dragon tell us where to find the guy who's making the androids, find him... Then murder that son of a bitch in cold blood!" She finished, holding her hand in the shape of a gun as she imitated pulling the trigger with a grin.
"As much as I love the phrasing of that, I'm gonna have to say no... And by no, I mean hell no!" Vegeta growled, frowning at the blue haired woman as Luna looked over at them with a smirk, watching them as they argued.
"Are you kidding me?! You heard Piccolo! None of you survive!" Bulma pointed out, wondering how the hell he could want to take such a huge risk.
"And I, as a Super Saiyan, relish the challenge!" Vegeta shouted back, glaring at the stubborn Earth woman as she refused to back down.
Goku gasped excitedly, looking towards the shorter man as he smiled, interrupting their dispute. "You're a Super Saiyan Vegeta?! Show me!"
"I... Well, yeah I just... I..."
"Don't tell me, you're not in the mood..." Tien said lowly, looking over at the spiky haired man as he glared back at him.
"What, does that third eye make you psychic?" Vegeta asked sarcastically as Tien smirked.
"No....... But it does help me see bullshit."
"Hey... You know what? Fuck you!" Vegeta snapped back, ready to blast someone or something apart as he growled.
"Goku! You're with me, aren't you?" Bulma pleaded, ignoring the other two men as she clung to his shirt, putting on her best puppy eyes as he sighed.
"Wow, I can't believe it but I guess I have to side with Vegeta..." Goku said simply, watching as his friend pouted. "Besides, Dr. Gero hasn't made the androids yet so he hasn't done anything wrong... Yeah, we'll just have to wait..."
"Well, guess that settles that..." Krillin said, thinking about how he would spend his time training. "I'm off to go fire Kamehameha's into the ocean over and over..."
"Kakarot!" Vegeta shouted, getting everyone's attention as he glared at the other Saiyan. "I want you to know that just because we've agreed to fight together this time, I don't want you to start thinking anything has changed between us... Listen, when this is over, we'll meet to settle the score..."
"Sure." Goku nodded, smirking at the man as he watched him glare back. Vegeta made a sound of annoyance, glancing at everyone else for a second before taking off and leaving a giant cloud of dust behind him.
"Goodbye you guys... See you all in three years..." Tien stated, holding up his hand as him and Chiaotzu prepared to leave. "Good to have you back Goku."
"See ya later!" Chiaotzu waved happily, grinning at them all before both of them took off.
"Be sure to drop us a line sometime!" Krillin called after them as Gohan shouted, waving goodbye as well.
"Train really hard!"
"Piccolo... I need a training partner..." Goku admitted, staring up at his taller friend as he hoped he would agree. "So... What do you say? It would make Gohan happy..."
"Alright then, I'm in." The Namekian grunted, crossing his arms.
"Yeah!" Gohan cheered as Luna smirked.
"Krillin... Yamcha... Care to join us?" Goku questioned, looking at them both.
"No thanks, I think I'm going to train with Master Roshi." Krillin explained as Yamcha nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, I like to train at my own pace Goku... And besides, I don't think I could keep up with you guys anyway..."
"Luna! You're going to train with us, right?" Gohan asked hopefully, staring up at the purple haired girl as Goku smiled.
"Yeah, come on! It'll be perfect!" The dark haired Saiyan went on, nodding in agreement. "I'm sure Chi Chi would be happy to have you around more often as well!"
"Hmm... Okay!" Luna said with a grin, giggling as Gohan jumped up in the air excitedly.
"Yessss! Alright!"
"Well, what are we waiting for?" Goku asked, eager to start their training as he floated into the sky. "See you later guys! Oh! And Bulma..." Goku smiled, remembering something important as he cast his long time friend an awkward but happy glance. "I hope you have a healthy baby!"
"Huh?!"
"See you in three!" Goku shouted as Luna chuckled to herself.
"Bye guys! I'll see you soon!" Luna promised, glancing back at her friend's confused face once more before taking off and following everyone else.
"Uh, Bulma... What did he mean? Are you gonna be a mom?" Krillin asked, staring at the blue haired woman as she watched her friends disappear from sight.
"What?! No way! I don't know what Goku was talking about..." Bulma said in irritation, wondering what he could have meant by that. Yamcha coughed, blushing slightly as he spoke up.
"Um, he was trying to say... M-maybe it's about time you got married and started a family... Heh hehehehe... I mean, it's not like you're getting any younger, huh?!" The man finished, laughing nervously as Puar looked at him like he was crazy.
...
At the Son house...
...
"Like hell you will!" Chi Chi roared, Luna's eyes going wide as she covered her ears, expecting this type of reaction but not fully prepared for it.
Goku had told told his wife about their plans to train for the next three years... And he wanted to take Gohan with them. Chi Chi was not so thrilled about the idea... Piccolo grunted in irritation, leaning against a tree not too far away as they both waited outside the Son house.
"Oh, come on Chi Chi..." Goku pleaded, staring at his wife as he knew this wasn't going to be an easy conversation to have.
"Don't you 'Come on, Chi Chi' me!" The angry woman shouted, clenching her fists as she stared down her husband. "You're gone a year and a half in god know's where space, refuse to let the dragon take you home and the first thing you ask for when you get back?" She hissed, imitating a dopier version of his voice as she quoted his idiotic idea. "Oh hey Chi Chi, mind if I take our baby boy to train to go FIGHT SOME MONSTER ROBOTS?!" Chi Chi finished in a roar, marching up to Goku's face as he looked confused.
"Androids..." He corrected, choosing to change the subject. "And the first thing I asked about was dinner."
"The answer is no!"
"No to dinner or no to Gohan-"
"BOTH!" Chi Chi screamed, completely livid.
"Awww, but Chi Chi, don't be like that..." Goku laughed nervously, as he attempted to back her on the back, accidentally sending the woman flying through the wall of their house. His eyes went wide in shock as he watched her crash through a tree outside before finally landing. "Oh no! What have I done?!" The Saiyan stuttered, not believing how much stronger he had become while away. "I've been in space so long I don't know my own strength!"
Piccolo looked on in amusement as Luna dashed over to the woman, pulling her up as she almost jumped back, seeing the angry expression on her face.
"Chi Chi! It's me! Don't kill me!" Luna pleaded, waving her hands in front of her desperately. The dark haired woman sighed, letting her help her up as she glared at her husband while the younger girl quickly healed the few bumps and bruises she had acquired.
"I- I guess I'm not used to the gravity on Earth yet Chi Chi..." Goku stammered, looking at his wife apologetically as she frowned back before letting out a heavy sigh.
"Listen Goku... I'll let Gohan train with you but I want him to try and study too... I don't think that's unreasonable..." She snapped, angry at the fact that she even had to put up with this kind of behavior in the first place. "I mean a boy his age can't spend every day rough housing... He needs an education! And I want to make sure he gets one... Have I made myself clear?!"
Goku nodded, apologizing profusely to his wife as Luna couldn't help but chuckle at both of them, Gohan laughing as well as he shook his head at his parents. Piccolo just growled, looking away from all of them as he frowned.
That's one battle Goku will never win... Piccolo thought to himself, trying his best to tune out the annoying woman's ranting.
We're wasting time....... We all need to be training as hard as possible if we want to stand a chance against these androids...
