Chapter 28: The Waiting Game

They all followed the mysterious fighter, making sure to keep their distance as he touched down in a flat section of the rocky terrain, a short distance away from where Frieza's ship had landed. He looked around as everyone continued to watch him, nodding to himself as he checked his watch before glancing towards his audience for a moment.

The lavender haired man pulled out a small white case from the pocket of his jacket, opening it up before pulling out one of the capsules inside. He clicked the button on top, tossing the tiny device on the ground as it blew up with a poof of smoke. A small fridge was there when the smoke cleared, everyone watching tensely as he walked forward, opening up the door.

"Look out you guys, he's up to something!" Yamcha said quickly, growing tense before he saw what was inside.

"How about a cold drink?" The strange boy asked lightly, glancing behind him as he pulled out one for himself. "Goku's not due to arrive for two more hours... It's pretty hot and dry out here..." He finished, laughing nervously before popping the top to his drink and taking a sip.

"Well, I don't see why not..." Bulma said, smiling as she walked forward with Gohan who cheered happily. Luna floated over there after them, wondering if maybe he had something sweet in there she could have...

Vegeta growled as Krillin looked rather panicked. "Wait! Gohan-"

"Chill out Krillin, they're just sodas..." Bulma laughed sarcastically, walking up to the fridge and grabbing herself a root beer.

"Oh, wow! What a great selection!" Gohan said as Luna peeked over his shoulder curiously.

"Which one is good Gohan?" She asked seriously, not wanting a repeat of what happened the last time she tried to drink something with a label she couldn't read. "Pick me something sweet please..."

Gohan grinned, handing her a citrus flavored drink while taking an orange one for himself and opening it up. "Ah! Good stuff!"

"Yeah, super!" Bulma agreed, sipping her own drink as Luna tried hers while smiling happily.

"Is there, uh, grape guys?" Krillin said awkwardly, completely mind blown that they were all initially terrified of this guy and now were casually having sodas with the strange fighter.

Bulma stared at the lavender haired man, wondering where she might have seen him before. "Have we met?" She asked finally, watching in amusement as he looked away quickly. "You look so familiar..."

"Uh, no... Sorry..."

"Excuse me Mr., but how do you know my dad?" Gohan said, interrupting the awkwardness as everyone listened in, curious as well.

"Actually... I haven't met your dad before... I've only just heard about him..." The Saiyan explained shyly, trying not to reveal too much.

"Then how do you know he's going to arrive at this spot in two hours?" Luna asked, genuinely curious as she hovered closer, finally getting a good look at this new Super Saiyan.

"Well, that's uh... Sorry, I can't say..." He stuttered, looking down as Vegeta made a sound of annoyance, growing tired of this boy's pitiful excuses.

"Why not? I'll tell you... Because you're up to something!" The Prince of all Saiyans said harshly, seeing no good reason this stranger would have to hide his identity from them. "Tell us now tough guy, who are you?!"

The younger man in question frowned, his eyes growing distant for a moment before he responded calmly. "I wish I could... Sorry."

Piccolo's frown never left his face as he watched the scene before him, wondering what would happen once Goku showed up...

If he even shows up... Piccolo thought, his eyes narrowing in irritation as he let different scenarios play out in his mind. What are this guy's motives? And why is he so intent on meeting Goku?

"When you defeated Frieza and that big guy you were a Super Saiyan... Weren't you?" Gohan questioned, staring up at the older boy in awe as Luna couldn't help but smile at the expression on his face.

"Yes... Yes I was-"

"That's a lie!" Vegeta shouted, glaring in his direction as he explained. "Look my friend, Kakarot... The one you call 'Goku' and myself are the only Saiyans left... Kakarot's kid there is half Saiyan, so if you count him, that makes three of us... There's no way that you could have Saiyan blood!"

The purple haired fighter continued to stare at the ground, unable to defend himself without giving away too much information.

"Yeah... But we saw him!" Gohan argued, as everyone continued to listen. "He just defeated both of them all by himself..."

"Well, I'm calling him a liar not a weakling..." Vegeta hissed, crossing his arms as Luna watched him glare at the other man.

"Oh... Hey! You've got our logo on your jacket!" Bulma said suddenly, noticing the black and white Capsule Corporation design. "That's my dad's company... Are you one of our employees?"

"No, not exactly... Just a fan..." He replied, sending her a small smile while hoping she would drop the subject.

"Oh I see... Well, tell me your name and I'll recommend you to dad!"

"I, uh, can't do that... I'm sorry, I know it's strange..."

"Oh... Mystery man..." Bulma said teasingly, giggling to herself as she saw the uncomfortable look on his face.

"Is his shoe size a secret too?" Tien asked sarcastically, Chiaotzu giggling behind him as Yamcha backed him up.

"Yeah! Why can't I have a secret name? That's not fair..."

"I bet you have a secret spy decoder ring too-"

"Knock it off you guys!" Bulma said seriously, defending the stranger as she glared back at her friends. "You're all jealous... This guy just beat Frieza single-handedly! So there!"

Gohan nodded as Luna seemed to agree as well. They really did owe this man their lives. Who knows what would have happened if we had been forced to take on both of those monsters ourselves... Luna thought, clenching her fists together subconsciously as she thought about what might have happened.

"Ha!" Vegeta scoffed, cursing under his breath as Bulma laughed, knowing he was just envious of this new fighter's power. The blue haired woman grinned, turning to face said fighter before winking at him as she saw a light blush creep across his cheeks.

Luna sighed, growing bored with just waiting around as she lowered one of her bare feet towards the hard ground below her, retracting it immediately when she discovered it was far too hot for her liking.

"And that's why you need shoes Luna!" Bulma shouted, trying to grab onto her friend's leg as she floated just out of her reach. "Get back here!"

"No!"

"You'll have to come down eventually!"

Luna sipped her soda casually, smirking at the woman below her as she continued to hurl empty threats her way.

"If you don't put those boots on next time, I'll never make you strawberry cake again!"

"Chi Chi will make it for me." Luna countered confidently, trying her hardest not to laugh as her friend was running out of options and hopefully, was close to giving up on winning this fight.

The lavender haired Saiyan chuckled, the unfamiliar sound making both of them stop their teasing as they realized who the voice belonged to. Luna sent a smile his way, tilting her head in confusion when he looked away again, unable to meet her gaze for some reason.

Luna sighed, stretching her arms above her head as she glanced around at everyone who was trying their best to wait patiently. Some of them doing far better than others...

I guess all we can do is wait...

...

A little over an hour and a half later...

...

"What are you looking at?!" Vegeta hissed, glaring at the younger Saiyan as he sat on a rock not too far away.

"Oh, uh... Nothing! It's just that I, uh... Like your shirt..." He replied nervously, cursing himself internally for not thinking of a better excuse.

"You would..." Vegeta mumbled in annoyance before sending a glare towards Tien and Yamcha who were trying their hardest to keep their laughter under control. A few feet away, Bulma and Krillin were seated on a large flat rock, sitting in silence until the blue haired scientist thought of something interesting.

"Hey! Now check this out..." Bulma whispered, talking behind her hand to Krillin as he leaned closer. "Is it me? Or do those two kind of... Look alike?"

"Well, now that you mention it... I can kind of see a resemblance..." Krillin answered, looking at Vegeta and the purple haired boy a bit closer. "Well I mean, just in looks... That other guy seems pretty nice... But Vegeta has the personality of a stump."

Luna suppressed a giggle, braiding a few strands of her hair absentmindedly as she tried to keep herself occupied. She had already attempted to braid some flowers into Gohan's hair but he didn't seem as thrilled about it as she was.

"Well, he's a prince..." Bulma went on, making Luna go silent as she continued to listen in.

"So what?"

"Prince's have to act bored, like the world's not good enough for them..." Bulma explained, staring towards the Saiyan as Krillin looked confused.

"Vegeta seems more agitated than bored..." Krillin admitted, scratching his head as he looked towards the angry prince as well. "I just hope he decides to stay on our side..."

"Why do you keep looking over here?! Haven't you ever seen a pink shirt before?" Vegeta shouted suddenly, causing everyone around them to fall silent. "If you like it that much you can have it!"

"No... No thank you..."

"Then knock it off kid!" Vegeta growled, looking away again as Luna noticed the tiniest smile creep across the strange fighter's face.

Hmm... I wonder what that's all about... She thought to herself, watching the two Saiyans for a bit longer before floating over to where Gohan and Piccolo were standing. I can't wait for Goku to get here... Gohan is going to be so happy to finally have his father back... She realized with a smile, looking towards the sky anxiously as they all continued to wait.

A small beep from the lavender haired man's watch got everyone's attention as he stood up, pressing the button on the side before speaking. "Hey, uh... That's it! Two hours have passed! Goku should be arriving any second now..."

Everyone looked around, waiting for whatever was about to happen as Bulma jumped up excitedly.

"Really?!"

"Okay..." Gohan mumbled, sensing for his father's energy but finding nothing. A few moments later Piccolo's eyes widened, sensing a familiar ki as everyone else instantly felt the same thing.

"Oh my gosh Tien!" Chiaotzu said happily, looking towards the source of the energy as he tried to see him approaching.

"I know! I feel it too Chiaotzu!"

"He's coming!" Krillin said in surprise, overjoyed that his best friend was returning home.

"Man, that guy was right after all..." Yamcha admitted, staring towards the sky as Bulma scanned the horizon for any sign of a ship.

"You're all nuts... My woman's intuition isn't picking up anything right now..." She said seriously, continuing to look around.

"No, it's true! He's finally home! My dad's back! Hahaha!" Gohan cheered happily as Luna got excited as well.

"Look, up there!" Luna said, pointing up at the tiny ship that had just broken through the atmosphere. It was heading towards them all incredibly fast, soaring over their heads loudly before slamming into the ground not too far away. Clouds of dust filled the air as everyone looked on in shock, unable to move for a moment as the smoke began to clear.

"Woah... Cool..."

"Last one there's a rotten egg!"

"Hey! Wait for me!"

All of them dashed forward, Piccolo, Vegeta and Luna flying over head, as they all made their way towards the edge of a giant crater.

"Wow... What a crater!" Gohan said excitedly, unable to take his eyes off of the ship at the bottom.

"Yeah, no kidding... Boom! What a landing!" Krillin laughed, staring towards the ship below as well. "I hope he has some air bags in that baby..."

"Why? To protect the ship from Goku's head?" Yamcha chuckled as Tien agreed with a laugh.

"Yeah, really!"

Everyone watched in anticipation as the door to the ship opened before a familiar figure stepped out, looking at them all in shock before speaking.

"Hey guys..." Goku said slowly, clearly surprised to see all his friends waiting for him.

"What took you so long dad?!" Gohan cheered, a few happy tears gathering in the corners of his eyes as he realized his father was finally home.

"Hi Goku!" Bulma said happily, waving a hand over her head as he hesitantly waved back.

"How in the world did you know I was going to be here?" Goku asked in confusion, floating up from the bottom of the giant crater while still wondering how they all knew when and where he would arrive.

"This guy told us... He's a mystery man!" Luna said cheerfully, hovering over next to the purple haired fighter as she pointed at him. "I think he might be a fan of yours..." She teased, giggling as he actually sent her a tiny glare.

Goku frowned, looking at the strange man for a minute as he tried his hardest to remember who he was. "Ah right..." He said uncertainly, fidgeting nervously as he spoke. "If it ain't you, you old so and so... It's been so long since I uh, I... Uh... I mean, you..."

"We've never met before." The Saiyan explained quickly, knowing he had to find some way for them to speak in private.

"Oh thank God! Or Kami... Or King Kai... I dunno, that whole thing is screwy..." Goku laughed, letting out a relieved sigh.

"Yeah... That's what he said..." Bulma frowned, crossing her arms as she glanced between the two. "Then he must have been tracking your ship in outer space..."

"Really? I don't know..." Goku said, putting his hand under his chin as he thought about it. "Frieza tried to do that... But I could sense his energy level as he passed me... He sure was in a hurry to beat me home... But my gosh, what in the world happened here you guys?!" He finished excitedly, eager to hear about what was no doubt a thrilling battle.

"Who defeated Frieza?" The Saiyan asked as everyone continued to stare at him. "Was it you Piccolo? Or was it you Vegeta?" He paused for a moment, glancing at them both before his eyes settled on Luna.

"Hmm... Or maybe Luna!"

"None of us did..." Piccolo said calmly, his usual frown ever present on his face as he directed his gaze towards the mysterious fighter. "It was this guy... He did it with ease."

"Huh?!"

"He turned into a Super Saiyan and picked him apart..." Piccolo finished as Goku stood there shocked.

"A Super Saiyan?! I can't believe it!" He said in surprise before smiling. "That's outstanding! Can you imagine? A Super Saiyan at his age... Fantastic!"

"Hey! Aren't you forgetting something?" Vegeta hissed, getting the man's attention as he looked his way. "You, your son and I are the only Saiyans still alive!"

"Well, if he says he's a Super Saiyan then that's good enough for me." Goku said simply, nodding his head once as he grinned at the purple haired stranger.

"Oh honestly Goku! You take things way too lightly sometimes!" Bulma chastised, frowning at her friend as he stared back at her with a blank expression.

"No I don't..."

The lavender haired man actually cracked a smile, choosing to take the opportunity to accomplish what he came here to do. "Goku... Can I have a word with you?" He asked seriously as everyone grew quiet.

"With me?"

"Yes... Just the two of us..." The mysterious boy continued, pointing to the area on the other side of the massive crater.

"Alright then." Goku said seriously, both of them turning to leave as everyone looked on in shock.

"Hey! What exactly is this guy trying to say?!" Yamcha growled, frowning as he glared at the other fighter.

"It's okay guys... I'll be right back!" Goku smiled, sending them all a small wave before they both flew a good distance away. Yamcha huffed, crossing his arms as Luna hovered a few feet away, wondering what all this was about...

...

On the other side of the crater...

...

The purple haired fighter breathed a sigh of relief, happy to finally be talking to his mother's long time friend. "Thanks man..."

"Hey, no problem... But shoot, I should be thanking you for beating Frieza!" Goku said honestly, before his expression darkened a bit. "I had a chance to finish him... But I was only fooling myself thinking that he might change..."

"Heh, not him..." The other Saiyan said with a smirk. "He was out of control and you were supposed to stop him. But when he landed and you weren't around, I had to step in... I didn't think you were going to make it."

"Yeah... His ship was a lot faster than mine and he gained two hours on me!" Goku complained, frowning as he thought about what almost happened. "I knew he was going to hurt the people here... I'm just glad they're all okay..."

"I need to ask you something Goku..." The younger man said suddenly, completely changing the subject. "Can you transform into a Super Saiyan at will?"

"Well, at first it happened spontaneously but now I can control it." Goku answered casually, wondering why he needed to know.

"Alright then... Can you show me right now?"

"Huh?" Goku said in confusion, looking at the younger fight who was staring back at him seriously.

"Please Goku."

Across the crater, Bulma was squinting towards the two figures in the distance as she tried to make out anything that was going on.

"I really like Goku's new outfit... It's cool!" She giggled, excited to hear about his adventures in space.

"I wonder what they're talking about..." Krillin mumbled as Luna floated next to him, listening quietly.

"Yeah... They look pretty serious..." Gohan said, staring at his father as he wondered what this stranger could be up to.

"Okay..." Goku said seriously, frowning a bit before shouting as he powered up. His ki went through the roof, making everyone jump at the sudden shift in his aura as they watched him transform. Black spiky hair became blonde as Goku was surrounded in a familiar golden light, his aqua eyes shining vividly as the mysterious fighter smiled in satisfaction.

"Man, how awesome... I'd forgotten what it feels like looking from the outside in..." The younger man mumbled, smirking at the other Saiyan.

"So, what's next friend?" Goku questioned eagerly, his tone somewhat unreadable as he wasn't sure what this strange fighter wanted.

"Now we'll both be Super Saiyans..." He said simply, Goku getting his answer as his hair lifted up, instantly changing from lavender to a bright blonde. Goku's eyes went wide as he stared at the younger man in front of him, along with everyone else who seemed just as surprised.

"Man, look at those guys! Hardcore..." Yamcha mumbled from across the crater, unable to look away from the two fighters.

Luna just hovered near everyone else, wondering to herself how Goku had gotten so much stronger in his time away from Earth. Both of their power levels were way above her own, the realization making her frown a bit as she wondered if she could ever be on their level.

I've improved so much... But it's nothing compared to those two... She thought, clenching her fists together as she heard Krillin clear his throat, interrupting the silence.

"Well Vegeta, now that Goku's here to compare, we can finally say for sure that that kid's a Super S-"

"Utter one more word and no dragon alive will be able to fix what I do to you..." Vegeta threatened, cutting the shorter man off as he sent him a murderous glare.

"Sooo... Tien, uh... Have you been lifting?" Krillin stammered nervously, changing the subject as he glanced away from the angry Saiyan. "Cause you are jacked!"

"Yeah, who knows... Maybe I'll be the next Super Saiyan..." Tien said sarcastically, chuckling to himself as he heard Vegeta growl. Luna rolled her eyes, grinning to herself for a moment before focusing on the conversation across the crater.

"We're exactly the same..." Goku said in awe, staring at the younger Saiyan in front of him as he watched him send him a smirk that looked somewhat familiar...

"Let's find out..." The man said suddenly, moving incredibly fast as he unsheathed his sword and swung it towards Goku's head with a yell. At the last second he stopped, his eyes going wide for a moment when he realized his target had no intention of dodging the attack.

"Why didn't you try to avoid it?" He asked in irritation, wondering why he was holding back.

"I searched your feelings so I knew that you would stop." Goku said seriously, never taking his eyes away from the other man.

"Yes, I see... Well this time I'm not going to stop, got it?"

"As you wish." Goku answered, holding up one finger as he transferred a good amount of ki to the tip of it, preparing to counter.

With a yell, the mysterious fighter rushed forward again, this time not hesitating as he attempted to land an attack on the legendary warrior from Earth. Strike after strike, Goku deflected his advances easily, not ever taking his eyes off of his opponent as he held his ground. Finally, the younger Saiyan swung his sword down with everything he had, both of their energies flaring as they clashed.

"Hmpf..."

Without another word, the strange fighter jumped back, tossing his sword into the air casually as he powered down, his blonde hair returning to it's normal lavender shade. "Awesome... Everything I've heard is true..." He said with a smirk, glancing at Goku as he returned to normal as well. "You're good... No, you're great!"

The purple haired boy grinned, leaning to one side as his sword fell perfectly into the sheath on his back. "It's just like my mom said... I feel like I can trust you Goku..." He admitted happily, finally feeling at ease now that he had seen his abilities first hand. "Now I know I can reveal to you my secret..."

"A secret? I love secrets!" Goku said excitedly, returning to his normal cheery self. "I'm awful at keeping them though... Like the worst..."

"Um..."

"Oh! But don't worry! I'll totally keep this one though... I promise on Krillin's life!" Goku said, closing his eyes as he nodded.

"Umm..."

"Okay, you're right..." Goku said, realizing quickly that probably wasn't the most reassuring statement. "I promise on Bulma's life!"

"You promise on my mother's life?" The younger man replied without thinking, his eyes going wide as he instantly realized his mistake.

"BULMA'S YOUR MOM?!" Goku shouted in surprise, nearly falling over as he spun around to look back across the crater at his blue haired friend. "I can't believe it... I was only gone for a year and a half... And already a Super Saiyan... Kids grow up so fast these days..." He mumbled, completely missing the point.

"N-no, wait... You don't understand-"

"And what? Next thing you're gonna tell me is that Vegeta's your daddy?"

The younger man just stood there. Blushing slightly as he stared at the ground, nodding once in confirmation.

"Oh my Gamikai..." Goku mumbled as Luna gasped, losing her concentration as she fell to the ground face first while Piccolo started laughing.

Gohan looked from his teacher to Luna in confusion as she scrambled to get back on her feet, wiping some dirt off her face as she looked as though she had seen a ghost. Piccolo shot her a serious look before shaking his head, glancing towards the Prince of all Saiyans before chuckling again.

"You alright Luna?" Gohan asked, watching as she glanced from Vegeta to Bulma, a tiny grin finally creeping across her face...

"What's so funny?" Vegeta demanded, glaring at Piccolo as he smirked.

"Your shirt."

"Rrrgh!"

"Man... Good for them!" Goku said happily, still completely oblivious. "I'm gonna go over there right now and congratulate th-"

"I'm from the future!" The purple haired boy interrupted in frustration, tired of dancing around the subject. "Look, my name is Trunks... This is going to sound really strange, but I'm not from this time. I traveled here in a time machine twenty years from the future..."

"Really?! From the future? That's incredible!" Goku said in shock, unable to get over the fact that he was actually Vegeta and Bulma's son. "Wow..."

"Yes, Vegeta was right... Only he, yourself and Gohan have Saiyan blood... And I got mine from him. He's my father... And I will be born two years from now..."

"Hahahahaha! No kidding... Vegeta's going to be a daddy!" Goku laughed, glancing back at the angry looking Saiyan. "Man, who would have ever thought-"

"Goku, I didn't come here to tell you that." Trunks said seriously, eager to get back to the real reason he was here. "I have to talk to you about something..."

The smile faded from Goku's face as he nodded, his expression becoming serious as he waited to hear whatever he had to say.

"In three years, on the morning of May 12th, 10 am... A horribly destructive duo will show up on an island nine miles southwest of South City..." Trunks explained, his tone growing dark. "They have dreadful power, even by our standards... They're monsters Goku... That's the best way I know to describe them... They're monsters..." He growled, frowning as he knew he had to tell him everything. "Once this pair surfaces, the Earth and everything you know will be gone for good..."

"What's the deal? Are they aliens?" Goku asked grimly, wanting to know everything he could about these new enemies.

"No... They're both androids created right here on Earth... Their creator is Gero, Dr. Gero... The mastermind responsible for the old Red Ribbon Army... Do you remember?"

"Yeah! I defeated them!" Goku replied, sounding shocked as Trunks looked away.

"Jeez... For two guys who don't know each other they sure have a lot to talk about..." Bulma said, huffing to herself from across the way as everyone waited anxiously.

"But hey, talking's not bad..." Krillin sighed, raising one eyebrow slightly as he wondered what the heck was going on over there. "A lot better than fighting..."

"At least he doesn't have his sword out anymore..." Gohan mumbled as Krillin nodded in agreement.

"Yeah and your dad put his finger away too..."

"No way! Same guy?" Goku questioned in shock, staring at the younger man as he frowned.

"That's him."

"But how?! He lived?"

"Thanks to you, yes... That's one battle you're going to wish you fought to the very end..." Trunks said, noticing the look on the other man's face and immediately regretting his choice of words. "Look, I'm sorry to say that Goku... I know you're a good person... But letting Dr. Gero escape was a mistake that will come back to haunt you and everyone one you know..." He continued darkly, wanting Goku to understand what they would be up against. "It's hard to describe these creatures... They're unlike anyone you've ever faced... Nothing even comes close to rivaling the technology that gave them birth... It's mind boggling how strong they are..."

Goku frowned, letting out a deep sigh before speaking. "What's his plan? What's Dr. Gero trying to accomplish with them?"

"No one really knows... The moment those things were able to think for themselves they rebelled... And they've had their own twisted and merciless agenda ever since..." Trunks said sadly, frowning as he continued. "There's no rhyme or reason to what they do... They're machines of destruction, man eaters... Their first act after being born was to turn on their own creator, Dr. Gero himself... These androids are ruthless... They delight in causing pain and chaos..." Trunks finished, shaking his head as he realized he had to get back on track. "Living on Earth in my time is like living in a nightmare... Always running and hiding and looking for a way out..."

Luna's heart ached in her chest as she continued to listen in, unaware that it was about to get much, much worse...

"Gosh..." Goku mumbled, truly feeling sorry for the boy as an idea ran through his mind. "You defeated Frieza in a flash... And yet from what you're saying, these androids are even stronger than you..."

"They are. For sure..." Trunks admitted, frowning as memories flooded his mind. "Hunting me is down is one of their favorite hobbies... But it's two against one. There's not much I can do against them except run..."

"What?! What about all the others?! I mean, aren't they helping you?" Goku asked, not liking the dark expression on the younger Saiyans face.

"They can't... They're dead." Trunks said lowly, not meeting his eyes as he explained. "Three years from now, the Earth's special forces will be gone..."

Goku just stood there, completely shocked as he watched the younger man trying to hold it together.

"I'm all that's left..." Trunks said shakily, "I'm doing the best I can... They're all gone!" He shouted, clenching his fists at his sides as he fought the emotions welling up inside him. "Vegeta, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, Luna, Piccolo... They're all going to lose their lives against the androids in a horrible battle! There will be only one survivor..." Trunks continued, his voice softening for a moment.

"That's my master and best friend, Gohan... He narrowly escapes from that battle but then, thirteen years later... They finally get him too..." Trunks finished in a whisper. "That was four years ago, my time... And as you already know, Piccolo is gone so there's no chance of reviving anyone with the dragonballs..."

"Now what's the deal? They look like somebody just died over there..." Yamcha said sarcastically as Luna barely heard him, feeling as though she was going to be sick.

Could that really happen? She thought, clutching her hands to her chest nervously. He was right about Goku....... Everyone... Everyone is going to die... Luna thought sadly, his words playing over and over in her mind as she was unable to do anything else but listen.

"Making the time machine also cost us many precious lives... So many have suffered at the hands of those beasts!" Trunks continued angrily, letting out a breath as he tried to calm himself down. "Rrgh... Darn them! They're just far too strong!"

"Wait a sec... Hey, Trunks... What happens to me?" Goku asked curiously, "Do I die in the battle as well?"

"No... You die before it..." The younger Saiyan admitted sadly, wishing that history would have been different. "Not too long from now, you're going to catch a new virus that attacks the heart... You're going to die from it."

Piccolo grimaced from across the crater, actually feeling sorry for the man as he glanced over at Luna, noticing she was looking extremely pale. Goku gasped in shock, placing a hand over his chest instinctively as he couldn't believe he didn't even get to fight alongside his friends.

"Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... It's a radical virus, you'll start hearing about it soon..." Trunks explained grimly, "Not even a Super Saiyan can beat it..."

"What a bummer..." Goku stuttered finally, "Being killed by a stupid virus... Wh-what a waste!" He growled, making two fists as he frowned. "Darn it! I want to fight those androids! I don't even get to take a crack at them..."

"You mean after everything you've heard, you still want to fight them?" Trunks asked, his eyes going wide for a moment. "Aren't you scared of them at all?"

"Well sure, a little bit... All challenges are scary at first... But maybe I could make a difference!" Goku answered honestly, truly wishing there was something he could do.

"A guy like you probably could." The younger Saiyan said hopefully. "You're a true warrior... My mother and Gohan were right about you Goku... I really can trust you. I'm glad I came..." He finished with a grin as the dark haired man stared at him in confusion.

"Huh?"

"Here you go, take this man... For your health." Trunks explained with a smirk, taking a small bottle out of his front pocket and handing it to the other Saiyan. "It's an antidote..." He explained, watching in amusement as Goku looked at the bottle skeptically. "There's no cure now for that nasty virus you're going to get, but in my time there is... Take this when you get sick and you'll be fine."

"You're kidding me! Wow!" Goku exclaimed, a huge smile on his face as he gripped the precious medicine tightly. "Awesome! It's purple too! I'll bet it's grape flavored..."

"I shouldn't be doing this Goku..." Trunks said seriously, hoping he and his mother had made the right decision. "It's going to change history... But some history should change..." He mumbled, looking down once again. "Things are pretty bad... We're living in fear with no way out... It's terrible... But you can make a difference Goku, I know you can... My mother told me that you could and now I believe her."

"I still can't believe you're Bulma and Vegeta's son..." Goku said awkwardly, scratching the back of his head as he glanced back across the crater. "I thought Bulma was going to end up marrying Yamcha... But man, Vegeta?"

"They uh, don't stay together long..." Trunks mumbled, blushing a bit as recalled exactly what his mother had told him. "It's more of a, uh... Passion kind of thing... You know how stubborn they are..."

"Heh heh..." Goku chuckled nervously, knowing truer words had never been spoken.

"Yamcha and my mother are going to break up... He finds someone else and my mom... She falls in love with my dad... Of course he can never admit that he loves my mother..."

"No shock there..." Goku replied, glancing back at the spiky haired Saiyan who was still glaring directly at them. "I know them and man oh man... They're the feistiest two people I've ever met..."

"I don't remember my dad... So it's really great to get to meet him..." Trunks said happily, looking in his direction with a small smile. "He's a cranky guy but he's impressive..." He chuckled, sighing as he focused his attention on Goku once more. "I know this is bizarre, but they'll find their way to each other pretty soon... But if they get wind of it, it might not happen... Promise you won't tell them Goku or I might not be born."

"Hey, not a problem!" Goku assured him, smiling down at the boy as he realized he would get a chance to change his destiny.

"Well look, I better be off... My mom's probably worried sick about me... She needs to know that everything went okay."

"Yeah... Please tell her that I send my love." Goku said, nodding once as he noticed the younger Saiyan seemed more at ease. "And thanks for this..." He said while holding up the bottle of medicine. "You're great."

"You've helped me in a lot of ways..." Trunks said seriously, feeling as though a huge weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. "I should be thanking you..."

"Me? What did I do?"

"Well, I've felt alone ever since Gohan died... He was the last person who understood me and my power..." Trunks admitted sadly, before shaking his head and grinning up at the other Saiyan. "But meeting you has inspired me Goku. It's been like finding a long lost brother... You take care."

"You too. You're a brave young man Trunks." Goku said seriously, looking the younger boy in the eyes. "Now that I've met you, I'll be with you in spirit no matter where you go."

Trunks sent the man a genuine smile, giving him a thumbs up before turning around and taking off.

"He didn't even say goodbye!" Yamcha grunted, everyone watching in a mixture of confusion and shock as the mysterious fighter disappeared.

"Oh jeez, now what?" Goku muttered, crossing his arms as he tried to think. "Three years? Gosh... How am I going to let them know?" He said to himself, frowning as all his friends rushed over to talk to him.

"Daddy!" Gohan cheered happily, smiling up at his father as he noticed the worried look on his face.

"So what did that guy say?" Krillin asked quickly, eager to hear what all the fuss was about as everyone waited for an answer.

"Oh... Um, well, uh... N-nothing important really..." Goku stuttered, scratching his head as he knew he had no chance of fooling his friends.

"That's funny... It all sounded pretty important to me..." Piccolo grumbled, narrowing his eyes at the dark haired man as he looked at him in shock.

"Uh, really? Y-you heard it all?"

"My ears do more than just frame my face you know Goku..." Piccolo answered sarcastically, looking down at the Saiyan as he looked back at him nervously.

Goku's face grew paler as he glanced around, his eyes landing on Luna who was looking at him with a worried expression. "I guess that means you heard everything too, huh?"

Luna nodded, feeling everyone's eyes on her as Bulma finally lost her patience.

"Oh come on! What's so important that you can't tell us guys?!" The blue haired woman asked in irritation, crossing her arms as she glared at her long time friend.

"Well, I can't really say..." Goku mumbled, fidgeting nervously as Piccolo stepped forward.

"Alright, that's fine... But if you won't, then I will." He grunted, making Luna glance at him with wide eyes as Goku started to panic.

"But gosh! You heard-"

"Don't worry Goku, I won't say anything that would endanger your friend... But we deserve a chance to change our destinies! All of us, not just him..." Piccolo said seriously, as everyone stared at them in confusion, waiting for someone to explain what was going on.

Luna sighed, only half listening to Piccolo tell the others about the androids as she wondered to herself why they were all destined to fight so much. They had just gotten rid of Frieza, one of the most feared monsters in the universe and now, another threat had popped up to take his place...

Why can't there just be peace for a little while? Is that so much to ask for?
