Chapter 18: It's Goku!

"If I wasn't such a genius and I didn't have such a positive and energetic personality, this situation would really be unbearable..." Bulma said to herself as she soldered together more pieces of the circuit board before frowning. "Man, here I am slaving away for friends that forgot I even exist... It's a darn shame, that's what it is. Guess I shouldn't be too surprised... Those guys are always taking me for granted!" She mumbled, attaching the newly finished board to the machine in front of her. Bulma growled, picking up the phone to her left before speaking into it.

"Hey yo, diary..."

"Diary loaded. Please record."

"Hiiii me, just a reminder to kill Gohan and Krillin when I see them... And to kick Goku in the shin." She finished with a sigh, "I guess that's it- Huh?" She paused for a moment, her eyes lighting up when the machine in front of her came to life with a beep.

"Wow! Great!" She cheered, mentally patting herself on the back. "Gosh Bulma, you are really just too much!"

A large explosion in the distance made her jump, sending her tumbling backwards over her chair as she winced.

"Ugh, that's probably going to leave a lump..." She mumbled, rubbing the back of her head as she noticed the dragon radar had fallen off the table as well. She picked it up, pressing the button on top before nearly dropping it again in shock.

"What?! All seven dragonballs are together! This could be a serious problem... On the other hand, this could be perfect! What a fantastic opportunity to cash in on someone else's hard work!" Bulma finished with a grin before dashing out into the open. She pulled a small case out of her pocket, grabbing a pink capsule from inside before clicking the button on top and throwing it out in front of her. When the dust had cleared, there sat a pink hover bike, perfect for traversing the Namekian landscape quickly.

Bulma climbed on, about to take off before the thought of Gohan and Krillin stopped her. Oh! What if the guys come back for me and I'm gone so they leave?!

"Hey, I know! I'll just wish myself back! Yeah... That's it! I'll just ask the dragon to send me back to Earth! Why didn't I think of that before?" She laughed, revving the engine as she floated upwards before taking off.

"Alright dragon balls, here I come!"

...

Back with Krillin, Luna and Gohan...

...

"Ugh... what?" Luna mumbled, opening her eyes while seeing Gohan and Krillin staring down at her. "What happened?"

"Goku was right... Looks like we showed up just in time..." Krillin explained, helping her to her feet as Gohan smiled at her. "It looked like that Ginyu guy was about to finish you and Nail off..."

Luna looked around, not seeing the Namekian warrior anywhere as she got a sinking feeling in her stomach. "Oh no! Where is he?! Did... Did Ginyu-"

"No, no! He went back to check on Guru and Dende!" Krillin said quickly, making her sigh in relief before another voice made her tense up again.

"What did you do to her?!" Captain Ginyu roared, looking at the girl who was down for the count only moments ago. "H-how?!" He shouted, his shocked face glaring at them all as he suddenly started laughing.

"It doesn't matter... I'm still going to kill all of you! So get ready to DIE!"

Krillin and Gohan stood next to Luna, all of them getting into a fighting stance as they stared down the purple man in front of them.

He's not playing around anymore... Luna realized, noticing the cruel look in the man's eyes. We all have to be on our guard or else-

"Captain!"

Ginyu turned around, seeing three figures blasting towards him, instantly recognizing the voice that had called out to him.

"Jeice?! What are you doing-"

"Stop running and fight!" Vegeta growled, following after the red man with Goku right behind him.

"Dad!" Gohan shouted, waving happily as the man in the orange gi flew over to where they were standing.

So, I guess this is the guy they were all talking about before... Goku... Luna thought, staring up at the spiky haired man who was talking with Gohan and Krillin. She looked over to where Captain Ginyu was standing, obviously not happy about this development as Jeice appeared to be telling him something important. The white haired man was waving his arms around frantically, looking rather nervous as Vegeta stood not too far away with his arms crossed, just waiting for whatever was about to happen next...

"Hi!"

Luna looked back in the direction of the voice, only to find two dark pupils staring right at her making her jump back instinctively.

"Whoa! Sorry! I didn't mean to scare you..." Goku explained, laughing to himself as he held out his hand. "I'm Goku... I just want to thank you for everything you've done to help my son and my friend... I'm glad they had someone with them who they could rely on while I wasn't here..."

"O-oh... No problem..." Luna mumbled, grasping his large hand with her smaller one as she shook it awkwardly. "I... I don't know if I've really been that much help-"

"Of course you were!" Krillin interrupted, staring at her seriously before looking away for a moment. "And hey, I'm sorry for what happened back at Guru's... I should have believed you when you said we had to trust Vegeta... You were right. If I had known these Ginyu guys were going to show up-"

"It's okay Krillin... I-"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY'RE ALL DEAD?!" Ginyu shouted, getting everyone's attention. "WHO?! WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?!"

Jeice pointed in Goku's direction as everyone fell silent. Luna couldn't believe what she was hearing.

N-no way... The rest of the Ginyu's are gone?! I can't believe it! Wow...

"Y-you..." Ginyu mumbled, snapping Luna out of her thoughts as she watched him turn towards Goku. "My men... You'll... YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!"

Without warning he shot towards the Saiyan, both of them exchanging blows as Luna, Gohan and Krillin jumped out of the way.

"That just leaves you and me, Snow White..." Vegeta laughed, floating over to where Jeice was standing as he stared the other man down. "Let's go!"

Luna just stood there, watching as both warriors held their own against the remaining two members of the Ginyu Force. They're both incredible... She thought, wishing there was some way she could help. That's it! The dragonballs!

"Krillin! Gohan!" She said suddenly, as they both turned away from the fight to look at her. "We have to get to the dragonballs before Frieza does!"

Gohan nodded, his eyes going wide for a moment before the realization hit him. "But... Bulma has the radar! How are we ever going to-"

"I saw Ginyu bury them!" Luna explained excitedly, pointing in the direction of Frieza's ship. "Come on! We have to hurry!"

Krillin nodded, glancing back at Goku and Vegeta as Gohan did the same. I believe in you Goku... Krillin thought, wishing his best friend luck as they all blasted away.

Where the hell are they off to in such a hurry?! Vegeta thought, slamming his fist down against Jeice's face as he watched the girl and the Earthlings leave. I need to finish this quickly...

...

Back at Frieza's ship...

...

"They're over here!" Luna said in a rush, landing on top of a pile of dirt as she began flinging soil in every direction. "Come on, dig!"

Within a few minutes they had uncovered the seven dragonballs, all three of them staring at the magical orbs before speaking.

"Well... What now?" Luna asked, turning to Gohan and Krillin. She had no idea what to do now, what would happen next or if these dragon balls would even work at all. Krillin moved to stand in front of the balls, raising his hands as he shouted.

"Eternal dragon! Rise up and grant our wish!"

Luna and Gohan looked up expectantly, waiting for whatever was about to appear.

...Nothing.

"It's not working..." Gohan said after a few minutes as Krillin frowned. "Is that what you're supposed to say?"

"Honestly, that's always been pretty vague..." Krillin replied, placing a hand under his chin as he thought about it.

"Maybe there's something special about Namekian dragonballs..." Gohan realized, getting an idea. "Maybe the only way to summon it is to call it in it's native language..."

"Frieza couldn't make his wish earlier when he tried either..." Luna said, wishing that Nail would have stayed with them. "Why didn't Guru tell us about this?"

"Not going to wait for me?" Vegeta asked, making her jump as she spun around to face the angry Saiyan.

"Vegeta?! What-"

"Where's my dad?" Gohan interrupted, looking around for his father before glancing back at the other Saiyan.

"He's still fighting Captain Ginyu..." Vegeta answered nonchalantly, walking over to the dragonballs before continuing. "Kakarot certainly doesn't need my help after what I saw him do to those other idiots... Now, about my wish-"

"We can't activate the dragonballs for some reason..." Luna explained, not really wanting to be the bearer of bad news. "There must be some sort of password on them."

"Great, just great!"

"Why don't I see if I can go find Dende? Or Nail?" Krillin suggested as Gohan and Luna looked at him in shock. "We don't really have any other option... And if Frieza finds them before I do..." He trailed off, not wanting to think about that possibility.

"Krillin... Are you sure?" Gohan asked, staring up at his friend as he nodded.

"Like I said, I think it's the only chance we've got..."

Luna looked away, sighing sadly before giving the shorter man a quick hug. "Be safe Krillin..." She said, watching as the bald man's cheeks turned pink before he floated into the air.

"Um, yes... Yeah, I will!" He grinned, waving at them all before blasting off in the direction of Guru's. Luna smiled, waving back along with Gohan as Vegeta grunted in annoyance behind her.

"So now what? We just sit here and rely on that fool?!"

"We don't really have a choice..." Luna realized, sitting down and glaring up at the Saiyan as she spoke. "And I don't think it would kill you to be a little nicer Vegeta-"

"It might." He hissed, walking a few feet away as he took the opportunity to rest as well, sitting with his back to them both.

Gohan just sighed, taking a seat near Luna as he watched her lean against a dragonball comfortably.

"I guess we wait..."

...

Meanwhile, at Guru's...

...

"What are you looking for Dende?" Guru's deep voice rumbled, before another coughing fit silenced him.

"I was hoping that Nail would come back Guru..." Dende answered, continuing to stare out the large window before he noticed someone approaching. He recognized the figure immediately, smiling excitedly before turning around. "It's him! Guru, Nail's come back!"

A few moments later, Nail was standing in front of the huge Namekian as well, bowing his head in respect as Guru spoke.

"It couldn't be Nail... I sent him on a mission..."

"It is I, Guru..."

"Nail... Why have you returned? I asked you to help the Earthlings... Can't you respect an old man's wishes even in his last hour?"

"I know what's coming Guru..." Nail said evenly, "And you do too... That Acaiian woman warned me... Frieza is on his way here right now to learn about the dragonballs..." He revealed, frowning as he continued. "You also know that I can't be anywhere except by your side at this time..."

"There's nothing you can do my son, you know that..."

"But Guru, I have to try-"

"But you can't succeed..."

"Then I'll die trying!"

Dende stood there wordlessly, observing their conversation with wide eyes as he wished there was something more he could do to help.

"Nail." Guru said suddenly, using a harsher tone than he usually would before sighing. "You're a fine young man..."

Nail looked up in surprise, expecting his elder to chastise him for disobeying his orders. Instead the large Namekian's mouth tilted upwards into a smirk as he thought about how proud he was of his sons. The grin was short lived however as his face became serious once again, sensing an enormous dark energy heading their way...

"Well, I guess it's time for you to get going my little brother..." Nail commented, nodding his head towards Dende as he felt the approaching power as well. "I know you can do it."

"Come here boy..." Guru rasped, knowing they had precious little time left. "I have a gift for you... To help you on your mission..."

Dende obeyed, moving to stand next to Guru as he placed a large hand on his head, grunting slightly as a white energy began to circulate around him. Dende's eyes snapped open as he felt a new power coursing through his veins. He looked at his hands in shock, feeling like a completely different person before Guru's voice broke him out of his trance.

"It's okay Dende... Don't be scared of this new power that you feel within... It has always existed inside of you, I merely uncovered it..."

"Must I go?" Dende asked, looking up at Guru as he nodded.

"The sooner the better my son..."

Nail was looking down, waiting anxiously as he felt the evil presence drawing closer...

"Goodbye Guru... Goodbye Nail... Please take care while I'm gone, okay?" The small child said quickly before running out the door and blasting off. He knew the Earthlings would need one of them to summon the dragon... And he knew he had to hurry...

"Be strong my little warrior..." Guru said, sensing his energy getting farther away as a rare smile graced his features. "It pleases me that in these dark hours a flame so small burns brightly..."

...

Back at Frieza's ship...

...

"You know, I can heal that for you if you want..." Luna said, pointing to the cut on Vegeta's face he had gotten while fighting Jeice.

"Hmpf. I didn't realize that weakling actually landed a hit on me..." The Saiyan grumbled, reaching up to brush a spot near his hairline as he saw fresh blood staining his glove. "I hardly think it's worth wasting your energy..."

"I'm just tired of waiting and I want to make myself useful..." Luna replied, wanting to occupy herself with something to help calm her nerves. Any minute Frieza could come back... She thought, glancing at Gohan worriedly before walking over to the Saiyan. Please hurry Krillin...

"And besides, my healing doesn't use as much of my energy as it used to when I was first learning..." Luna explained, smiling instinctively as she knelt down next to the spiky haired man who still didn't look too happy about receiving her help. "If only I could get better at conserving energy while attacking..." She mused, talking more to herself than anyone else as the familiar blue glow lit up her fingers.

"Well, you had to be doing a good job of it before we got here..." Gohan commented, watching in fascination as the cut on Vegeta's head slowly disappeared. "You and Nail managed to give that Ginyu guy a good beating before Krillin and I showed up-"

Vegeta's eyes went wide, not quite believing what he had just heard as he stood up suddenly.

"You and the Namekian fought Captain Ginyu?! How?!" He growled, glaring at Luna as she looked rather depressed. Where was this power when I was struggling to teach this wench a simple ki blast?!

Luna sighed, staring off into the distance as she thought back on what had happened in her fight against Ginyu before Nail had showed up.

That power... Could... Could mother do that? She thought, wondering why she had never told her anything about her people's abilities before. If I had known then, we might have stood a chance... We could have fought back! We could have-

"Woman!" Vegeta shouted, snapping her out of her thoughts as she glanced up at him, surprised she had just zoned out like that. "I demand to know how a weakling like you managed to hold off the leader of the Ginyu Force!"

"I- I had a vision..." Luna mumbled eventually, an ominous wind blowing her lavender locks around her as she spoke. "Ginyu was about to kill me... I thought I was going to die... I thought I did die for a moment, then I saw her... I saw my mother and she told me about some sort of ability our people possessed..." She explained, looking away as Vegeta and Gohan continued to listen. "When I woke up, I was so angry... And before I knew it I was attacking Ginyu with everything I had... It just felt so natural, like it was something I had known my entire life..."

Luna paused, standing up and staring at Vegeta seriously. "Even with my mother's advice, I was still no match for Ginyu... If Nail hadn't shown up when he did, I would be dead right now... And even with his help, we couldn't beat him..." She finished dejectedly, glancing over at Gohan. "Are you sure your dad can handle that guy by himself?"

Gohan nodded confidently as Vegeta grunted, crossing his arms before speaking.

"Kakarot will be fine as long as he doesn't let his guard do-"

Vegeta stopped mid sentence, looking past Luna as he frowned at a figure in the distance that was quickly approaching.

"Daddy!" Gohan cheered, jumping in excitement as he saw his father flying towards them all. Luna smiled as well, happy for a brief moment before her heart froze in her chest.

Why... Why is Goku wearing a scouter?
