Memory Loss
If you thought life on the Bounty was hell with Kai in it, it was definitely way worse without him.
Everything was dull. It was like seeing the world through a black and white lens, the world bleached of color. Hues of white and gray and black seemed to be the new color palette of your life.
Everyone was in a state of depression. Including you.
Nya wasn't holding up so well. It's only when she comes to you in the middle of the night, seeking a shoulder to cry on, when you can tell. She refused to cry in front of the boys, and make them sad, so this had become a regular thing. And in the morning, she go back to the normal, calm, strong, confidant Nya.
The four ninja were starting to worry you. Sure, they acted the same. They still went out on their missions, played video games, and hated Cole's cooking. But there was something off about them. You didn't know exactly what, but there was this air of sadness that followed them. You knew they weren't okay, no matter what they told you.
You guessed, like Nya, they were trying to be strong.
And it broke your heart to think about what happens at night, behind their doors, when they were alone.
Three months, this has been going on.
Three months since your first mission.
Three months since that thing broke your rib.
Three months since Kai fell off the roof.
And three months since you found out he might wake up with no memory of you, or the others.
Three months earlier
*~*~*
You weren't expecting to see the face of Sensei Wu hovering over to you when you came to.
You also weren't expecting your beloved older brother to start freaking out, asking if you were okay, if you remembered anything, and if you could tell them why you and Kai were on that building in the first place.
Kai.......
Just the thought of him made you sick to your stomach, and made tears form in your eyes.
You hadn't done nothing to save him, and now he was gone. For good.
And then all at once, you sat up, (in your own bed, so you figured you were back on the flying ship) and started crying, hyperventilating, and blubbering about how Kai was gone, and you were useless.
After at least three minutes of this, Cole put a hand on your shoulder.
"Hey, hey- y/n!"
You stopped trying to form coherent sentences, but your breathing was still irregular, and your eyes still wet. Cole brushed away your tears gently, which made you feel worse. Why wasn't he mad? Didn't he blame you like you blamed yourself?
"Y/n, please calm down. It's not your fault. No one blames you."
Sensei Wu poured himself some tea, and then offered you a cup. You took it in your shaking hands.
"Your brother is correct, y/n. It was not your fault. You were not the one who pushed Kai off the roof."
"You're always too hard on yourself, little sister." Cole said, a tiny smile on his face. It turned to a frown a second later. "What happened on the roof anyways? When we found you, you were unconscious, and there was melted stuff everywhere."
You took a deep breath and began to summarize the fight, how it went side ways, how you and Kai couldn't hit the green eyed decoy, how your rib got injured, and finally to the part where Kai was knocked off the roof.
"And now" you took a breath, trying to steady your voice. "And now he's gone."
Wu and Cole exchanged looks.
"What do you mean gone?" Cole asked. You looked at him in surprise.
"Cole... he d-died. There was no way he survived that fall, combined with his head injury. Hell, he'd be lucky enough to survive the head injury!"
"Y/n." Wu said, taking your tea away from you, because your violently trembling hands were spilling it on your blanket. "I am afraid you were mistaken. Kai is very much alive."
Your eyes nearly popped out of their sockets "What! Really!?"
Cole nodded. "But.... There is something else you should know. Like you said before, he'd be lucky enough to survive a hit like that. And he did, but...."
A sense of dread filled you. "But what?"
"Y/n, you've been out for three days. And so has Kai. But he hasn't woken up yet."
Three days? That long?"What do you mean...?"
"I mean" Cole took a shaky breath "Zane took some scans of Kai's head. They didn't look to good. We even had a professional come and take a look. He came to the same conclusion we did. We think Kai might be in a coma. And if he wakes up-if ever- we also think he'll wake up with memory loss. He won't remember a thing."
Now
*~*~*
You had asked your brother how Kai survived the fall. It turns out, after they saved the hostage, they all split up to search the city.
Jay was the one who found you, and just in time too, because Kai had fallen more than half way to the ground. After saving the red ninja, he called the others to your location and flew off towards the Bounty immediately.
But by the time Cole was there, you had already passed out from pain.
And the decoy was gone.
And now, three months later, you still had no lead on the rouge serpentine group, their human leader, or the monster that attacked you. Nya was always looking for new information, but could never find anything.
That made you even more worried about her: she spent almost half her time at her computer, looking for anything to lead her to the serpentine group. She hasn't been outside in weeks, and was starting to look like a samurai, female version of Edward Cullen.
You all were just laying around today, Nya for once not on a computer. Jay and Cole were playing Fist to Face, but they didn't really seem into it. Lloyd, Nya, and you were sitting on the couch, watching. You heard Zane rummage through some pots in the kitchen, trying to start dinner.
He had taken up Kai's day for dinner.
The over all atmosphere of the place was dreary, though every acted like their happy selves. But you were smarter than that. Raised by a man who appreciated theater and dance, you learned to read emotions fairly easily.
And everyone was feeling pretty down. Especially after Kai's weekly check up, and Zane's announcement that the fire ninja's condition hadn't improved. It was the same as it was a week ago.
The same as a month ago.
Seeing as there was nothing else to do, you decided to visit Kai again. No one questioned you as you headed towards his room, even though you just were there two hours ago. You sat in the chair next to his bed, which became a new addition to his room since his accident. You watched him, again feeling useless. There was nothing you could do to wake him up. He looked almost lifeless. He was paler, due to his three months inside. His hair wasn't spiked, but was for once flat against his head. You thought Kai would sooner die than be caught with out hair gel.
You hoped that wasn't true.
He looked innocent, like a little kid, when he slept. He looked nothing like the boy who fought you for the last poptart, who lived to humiliate you.
It was almost like he wasn't living at all.
"Wake up, you idiot." You whispered, watching his chest rise and fall. "We've never been on the best of terms, but listen to me for once, you hear me?. It sucks, okay? I admit it. It sucks without you. The teams not the same without you. Life on this ship isn't the same without you. So don't be a prick, and not wake up because I asked, but do it for them. Because I know you care about them more than anything. Besides" you wiped a stray tear away "how else are we going to put and end to our prank war? We can't do it with you laying around all day."
Unlike three months ago, you didn't blame yourself completely. You only took partial blame, because, as Cole had said, you weren't the one who put him in a coma.
It was just your decision that led to it.
This was more of a filler, but be prepared, cause things will be happening next chapter!!!!!
