Chapter 20
A/N I don't know if this will be short or long. Sorry, I guess you will have to find out.
They were suffering a major case of déjà vu, if that's real. Keefe wasn't of course.
What was in Fitz's mind was the memory of when he found her. That had triggered a memory flash, and caused them to go to that time. Sophie, Fitz and Keefe were watching the moment that Fitz found her in the museum. So, at the moment, there was two Sophie's and two Fitz's.
The 'old' Fitz, (I will just call him Fitz for now. Same with 'old' Sophie just being Sophie) was reading the newspaper with the embarrassing school picture on the front. He looked up and stared straight at Sophie, who was staring at him. Well, looking at him. Something flickered across Fitz's face. Disappointment? The real Sophie still didn't know. Then, Fitz shrugged off the display he was leaning against and closed the distance between them. He flashed his movie star smile and asked, "Is this you?" Sophie nodded. "I thought so," he continued and squinted at the picture,"I didn't realize your eyes were brown." She answered,"Uh...yeah," she said,"Why?" Fitz shrugged and answered,"No reason." Sophie looked confused, probably because she couldn't place his accent at the time. "Are you in this class?" She asked. He smiled again as he told her, "No." Then he pointed at the Albertosaurus near by and Keefe burst out laughing. "Shhh," the real Sophie said. He quieted down. "Tell me something. Do you really think that's what they looked like? It's a little absurd, don't you think?" Fitz continued. Sophie looked at the dinosaur and said, "Not really. Why? What do you think they looked like?" Fitz laughed and answered,"Nevermind. I'll let you get back to your class. It was nice to meet you, Sophie." Just as they both turned to walk away, two classes of kindergarteners came running in. Both Sophie's and Fitz put their fingers to their temples wearing a pained expression. "Telepath's," muttered Keefe. The 'old' Sophie and Fitz turned to each other. "Did you just... hear that?" He asked, his voice hushed. "Who are you?" She asked. Fitz's eyes widened."You did-didn't you?" He moved a step closer. "Are you a Telepath?" Sophie flinched. "You are!I can't believe it," he whispered. "It's okay," he said, holding his hands out, like she was some sort of wild animal he was trying to calm. "You don't have to be afraid. I'm one too." Sophie froze. "My name's Fitz," Fitz added, stepping closer still. Sophie studied his face. "I'm not joking," he said. Sophie wobbled on her feet and Fitz grabbed her arms to steady her. "It's okay, Sophie. I'm here to help you. We've been looking for you for twelve years." Sophie jerked away from Fitz, bolting for the door. The real Sophie and Fitz followed 'old' Fitz out of the museum, with Keefe trailing behind. "Sophie, come back!" Yelled 'old' Fitz. 'Old' Sophie ran as fast as she could but everyone caught up to her, even 'old' Fitz. "Wait," Fitz called. (The old ones from now on until I say)"You don't have to be afraid." Sophie ignored him and kept running even faster across the cross walk. She made it half way before she heard the screeching of car tires. She locked eyes with the driver, who almost plowed into her but swerved into the street light instead. She was safe, until the street light fell down, almost landing on her until she used telekinesis to stop it. She gasped and looked up at the streetlight floating above her. "Put it down," Fitz commanded. She shrieked and out her hand down without thinking. The streetlight fell towards her. "Watch out!" Fitz shouted, yanking her out of the way a split second before the light landed on her. The force of the impact knocked them over and they tumbled onto the sidewalk. Fit broke her fall and she landed on his chest, staring into his teal eyes.
"Ooh Foster. I'm getting some pretty strong feelings from both of you. As in old you and this you. And seriously Fitz," Keefe said, turning to the real Fitz,"You pretty much scared her to death, then almost pretty much killed her and then saved her. I guess, you are forgiven, but you still should have bought her a present or something." Fitz snapped back," I brought her to the Lost Cities and you wouldn't really know her if it weren't for me. Let's just keep watching what happened."
"How did you do that?" Whispered 'old' Fitz. "I have no idea," she answered. "We need to get out of here," Fitz warned, pointing to the driver of the car. "He saw," Sophie gasped. Fitz pulled her to her feet and said,"Come on, let's get out of sight." He dragged her down the street with ought her resisting.
"Yawn yawn, I think we should come back later," he said stretching his arms and ending up wrapping his arms around real Sophie's shoulders. She shrugged him off and answered," Yeah, I agree. Everyone is probably worried, well not if I make us go back to ten minutes after we take a walk." They agreed and both grabbed there hands. She pulled out her home crystal and leaped to Havenfield. It was before Sophie had ever been to the Lost Cities, so she didn't go inside the house. "Come on. We have to jump." They counted to three and jumped and when they got into the black void for teleporting, Sophie thought of when she asked to go on a walk with Fitz and Keefe, and then fast forwarded it somehow, without know how she did it, by ten minutes. The void opened up and they were standing outside Havenfield. They walked in and acted like nothing happened. "That was a long walk," said Alden. They agreed. "Do you want to tell me what you actually did, though?"
