Hiking with my dad was always a good time... Not. But I did it out of love, because since I was away at college all the time, once a month he takes me camping here to spend some time with me.
My dad was fast paced, he wanted to get up to the top quickly, while I wanted to go slowly, take in the view, look at the nature. Usually he went along with it, seeing as I'm his only daughter, but on this particular day, he decided not to.
"I'm going to keep going up, sweetie. Meet me up there, or call me when you get there," He said, referring to the mobile phone that he had recently bought me. It was big, so big that I had to carry it in a purse, not like the tiny fit-in-your-pocket kind that would be ideal, but it was the smallest they had. And anyways, my friends didn't have cellphones, so that was at least something.
"Okay, will do, Dad," I said, and watched him walk away. I followed behind him, but at a slower pace, looking around to find anything interesting. A good view, some pretty flowers, a wild animal, someone or something that I could take a picture of. I was very tech savvy back then, I always had film and a Polaroid camera on me, just in case something good came along. There weren't many times when something did, but this was really something special, and I remember it like it was yesterday.
After walking around, exploring a bit, I found a big rock to sit on an take a break from climbing. It was like someone had cut a hole in the grass for this "seat", because on either side of me, left or right, and behind me, there were long strands of grass. There was a big dirt path in the middle, and a bit of a drop off across from me, with rocks you could climb on to get up here. Or there was me, who did it the old fashioned way, I walked up the path.
This area seemed bland, boring, and nobody seemed to be hiking over here. Until a shadow caught my eye from below. A blonde boy, maybe 19, 20 at the most came towards the rocks and started climbing. It looked neat, and not thinking about whether or not he would mind, I took out my camera and snapped a few shots. Then, the boy looked up at me, and started climbing faster. That's when I put my camera away, suddenly fearing that he was mad, and might break the thing.
"Were you just taking pictures of me?" He asked. Or more like demanded. He panted and wiped sweat off of his forehead, but still looked at me angrily.
"Y-yeah. I'm sorry, was that wrong of me?" I asked him.
"Who sent you?" He asked.
"How did they know I was going to be here?" He was fuming.
"I-I'm sorry, I don't know what you're talking about," I responded, staring at him. He looked familiar, but I just couldn't place where I'd seen him before.
"You don't?" He asked, catching his breath and looking me over.
"N-no... I'm sorry," I said quietly, looking down at my feet.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you... It's just... Paparazzi have been following me around all week, and I came here to clear my head. I thought you were one of them. I'm sorry," He apologized. I almost asked him about the paparazzi, but I didn't. It wasn't any of my business, anyways.
"It's fine. I'm sorry too, I shouldn't have been taking pictures of you in the first place..." I said to him, still looking down in shame. He looked at me with a smile that could brighten up the whole world, that immediately made me feel better, and I knew right then and there that this guy was something special.
