Seven's a Crowd, but Fourteen is Better!
Everyone except Cake was still in shock, while he only smiled awkwardly.
"It's hard to wrap your head around how the band acts," he says, still the only one who isn't frozen or screaming louder than ever.
After a minute of Cake worrying, a small hand patted the top of his head. Price Tag Immediately turned their head over in Cake's direction. Pie seemed much cooler up closer, but she seemed to act more lazily off stage.
"Are you seven coming to the resturant?" she says, now on her phone. "Its 3 minutes away. That also makes fourteen," Pie continues without Price Tag nor Cake's response.
"I guess we cant back out," he finally says to Taggy, which started inspecting Pie's outfit. "May I see how your stage outfits are made?" they ask, eyes sparkling. Pie only nodded, and gestured for the band to walk down the hall. "Luckily, the resturant is part of the venue."
The others seemed to snap out of their trance, and Pie lead them into their room. Looking at the professionals just having fun looked alien to Book, who then bumped into the lead guitarist.
"Oh, I'm so sorry! I didn't see you there, I was minding my own-"
"It's okay," Tree said, smiling at her. "It's no big deal." He says, extending her hand to help Book up. Suprisingly, she took her hand unfazed. Meanwhile, the youngest of the bunch and Naily began running around the room, with Pie trying to stop them. Inevitably, the two landing into Remote. An instant wind cooled them with Remote only blinking at them crashing into her.
"Marker, you need to stop latching onto me whenever you're hot." she scolds. There was a bit of silence between the two before Naily broke the tension.
"Wait a sec," she says, getting off of the floor. "Why is it so hot in the resturant, but when me and Marker fell onto Remote, it was suprisingly colder? I could also hear whirring comming from her."
Marker stopped whatever he was doing, and looked straight at Naily.
"She's.."
"She's what?"
"She's not human," he finished. "Does that explain where her inner cooling comes from?"
"Yeah, kinda." she responded, now waving her hand over Remote's eyes. Unresponsive.
Looking at her full outfit, she had two black plastic-like sleeves with a few buttons. Her eyes were also dual-toned, one red, one grey.
A bottle of water was thrown towards Marker. Remote instantly flinched, as the former caught it, and begins gulping it down. A small giggle came from the corner.
"Lightning, you know you can't throw stuff across the room," Tree firmly told him, directing his attention from talking with Book.
"But Marker was thirsty!! Im too lazy to get up.."
"Even though we're a band, we still opt to prevent death."
Defeated with Tree's proper tone, Lightning turned over to Remote.
"I'm sorry for almost killing you.. I promise to not put your life at risk again.." He apologized, before Nickel asked:
"Why do you need to prevent death if theres like- a billion recovery centers near us?"
"Because it's painful to them," Remote explained, not startled anymore. For a robot, her expressions felt sincere and more human like. "I could easily get fixed, but it's very discomforting to die."
"But wouldn't you just.. not remember anything?" Bomby asks, bringing the snacks into the room while Pie brings the food Tree ordered.
"Although you may not remember how you feel when you die, it still doesn't mean that death hurts. It's just a side quest for our band, nothing much." She finishes. "You should go ask Black Hole for more information. He's the one who created the group, after all."
"The drummer?" Naily guessed.
"Precisely. He scouted out me and Tree first, before holding auditions. We managed to get these three."
Remote then pointed towards another girl, another singer. "Fanny, you mind getting one of the cameras for me?"
"Hold on, Black Hole's fixing my hair." As the pair did their thing in the corner, Fanny pulled out a camera from the backpack.
"Yup, here you go, 'mote." she says, tossing it over. Remote takes out the memory card and places it in her sleeve. "Thanks," she gestured, and holds the camera in her hand while the rest of them begin to eat.
Pie and Cake are quite the chefs, so whatever was made at their house got eaten in under five minutes. The food that Price Tag had gotten from the bakery was cold, but they still enjoyed it anyways.
"That reminds me.." Book said, bettween bites. "One of the people who worked there auditioned for your band," she said, now taking one of the cat-shaped cookies.
"Bottle?" The three veteran members guessed.
"Yeah, exactly!" she said, pushing up her glasses.
"She didn't get in because we already found Marker. Bottle auditioned for a keyboardist." Black Hole explained, his eyes looking directly towards Book instead of the food.
"Pillow used to hang by here too, so we considered her partially a member before she joined you guys," He continued, as Book turns towards her.
"She was technically our fill in whenever Remote needed repairs, she got used to her six-string bass really quickly."
Most of the members started to intrigue in their conversation. To the side, Taggy had started to inspect Lightning's outfit. They didn't mind being out of the conversation, of course, as they were chattering about their intrests.
"Pen also did audition for a 'beatboxer'. Assuming he wanted to play the drums, we declined." Tree stated, before gathering everybody's plates. "Also, we're going to practice soon , so could you guys leave for a while? He asked.
"No problem!" came from the other side of the room. Price Tag then began fishing for something in their pocket. "I bought hotel cards for us so we can talk to them tomorow- if its okay with you all."
"We don't have any plans," Pie announces. "I guess it's worth a shot."
"Ooh! Let's do a one on one study session with each of the members!" Marker exclaims, waving his arms in the air.
"Aren't we assigned to show newbie bands to other bands so help them get ready for a concert?" Fanny asks, as she removes the memory card from Remote. "Pie was able to snatch Just Not, so I guess we should show them around tomorow."
"Then I guess it's settled!" Book says, getting up from her seat, gesturing for the others to follow.
"See you tomorow!"
-
The room was quiet, and Book could hear her thoughts again.
That band was so cool.
I wish we were like them.
Maybe if I try harder then I could be just like Tree..
There was a light tap on Book's shoulder. "Are you awake?"
"Yeaah.." she mannaged to get out. "Just thinking about today's concert. "Same here," Price Tag said, rolling over onto Books side. She huddled into a ball and made a cat-like face at Book.
"I think me and Pie would be on the same terms of experience, so I think I'd just be inspecting his oufit," They begin to fix the ruffles on the pillow. Book begins to lean into Taggy, making them lay down properly. "I don't know." Book sheepishly says, sinking herself into the blankets. "I think having a one-on one practice session would help us very much."
"I know. Which is why I belive in you guys! Even though you aren't professionals like me and Bomby, you can totally keep up to us!"
"Thanks, Taggy..! Whenever you motivation us, I surely feel more happy."
"No worries, Book. I'll get to bed in a bit."
The whiring of Price Tag's sewing machine and the slow breaths of the others were the last things Book heard before she fell asleep.
