Chapter 6

The next morning was nothing like I expected it to be. All the girls were locked in our rooms, and threatened solitary confinement if we were to leave. The classes were canceled. Food was sent to our rooms. It was like a terrorist was in the building.

I tried to ask Lyliana about the girl, but she wasn't speaking to me after the whole room change thing. Which, by the way, turned out to be a bust. Did you know you can't change rooms? Not even if your roommate is a psychopath who's obsessed with missing girls.

I don't know what's going on, no one will say anything when they bring the food, but the curiosity is killing me. I have to know what the big deal is.

I mean all this fuss for one girl? Why?

"They're keeping us on lock down because Headmistress is afraid someone will kill her daughter for coming back." Lyliana said suddenly. "A lot of  us girls believe that the Headmistress is sending away the girls she doesn't want. Especially since her only daughter has managed to return from the captors with mere complications." With that she fell silent again.

I didn't respond. She wouldn't have answered me even if I tried.

And what she had said only made me more curious of what was outside our doors.

"They're keeping her in the South wing by the laundry room." Lyliana wasn't looking at me as she spoke. "Last door on the left. The key is under the mat. Knock twice then unlock and go in."

I gave her a strange look. "I'm sorry?"

"You heard me. Hurry. I heard the Headmistress' car pull off the property about thirty minutes ago."

It took me quite a while to make my way to the South wing because there were quite a few teachers out doing patrols at different times so it was hard to make a pattern of when they would come through.

There was nothing that could have prepared me for what was behind the door.

A girl around seventeen sat on a twin mattress with her back against the wall. Her hair hung around her face in dark flat sheets. An rustic looking IV stand stood beside the mattress, a skinny wire connecting her to the machine.

As she looked up at me, there were dark circles around her eyes and bruises on her skin. "Long time since the last visit. You've come to see me again?" She asked a little too calmly.

"My name is Lilia." I slowly approached the bed after shutting the door. "Are you the girl they brought in last night?" I wasn't sure what she meant by again but I didn't know if I wanted to find out.

She started giggling like a mad person. "Silly, I know you're name. It's been way too long, Lils, come and sit with me."

"I'm sorry do we know each other?" I gingery took another step toward the girl. "What's your name?"

She only shook her head. "They're taken you haven't they, my pretty, that's a shame."

"Tell me who you are."

"If you insist."

+++++

That night we were allowed back into the cafeteria for dinner, and afterwards given a brief speech of how everyone would be on a strict curfew of being in their rooms by nine at night. Headmistress said it was due to kidnapping, but I had a feeling it was due to something else. Something that held the power to unravel this all.
