Three
"Bella?" A boy I didn't recognize asked.
"Thomas!" I heard myself yell.
I tried to ask the kid where I was, but I wasn't in control of my voice.
I started running toward him and we hugged.
The kid looked like he was 8, so how was I the same size of him?
I backed away, smiling.
"Where is Aris?" I pleaded.
"Don't worry, I think your brother is safe." Thomas reassured me.
A few seconds later, I started to cry.
Wait, why am I crying?
"Why did they do this to me?" I asked through my tears. "We were supposed to be in the same maze but they switched me with Theresa."
"Belle, he wouldn't have known who you were anyway." Thomas said softly.
The dream began to fade, then I was with a 16-year-old looking Thomas.
"Thomas, I can't keep hurting people like this." I said.
"You're not hurting anyone, it's Wicked, they are the ones."
I nodded, and we stood there for a minute.
"Who's next to go in?" I asked.
"Uh, Chuck I think." He replied.
My heart stopped.
He must have noticed my expression, because he asked,
"What?"
"Tom, I'm before Chuck, I'm next." I whispered.
"Wait, that means-"
Before he could finish some Wicked people walked down the hallway we were in.
"Bella, it's time for you to go in the maze." A lady in the front said. "First, we are going to put the swipe in so you don't remember anything. Come with us."
I looked at Thomas.
He had a shocked look on his face.
I hugged him, then followed the people.
They led me to a room with a bed and a lot of controls.
I laid on the bed, and they got the knockout gas ready.
"Remember," the lady said. "Yours and Thomas' swipe are only temporary. We will take them away when we feel that you need to remember your powers."
They put the mask with the gas in it on my face.
Before I passed out, I heard the lady say,
"Bella, use your powers."
Then I felt an extreme pain in my head.
I screamed, then woke up in a bed in the homestead.
Light was streaming through a window to my left. And Ben sat in a chair to my right.
A few seconds later Minho came trotting in.
"What the shuck are you waking up so early for?" He asked.
"I'm sorry, next time I pass out I'll try to wake up according to everyone's schedule." I snapped back.
He laughed and shook his head.
Before he walked out the door I asked,
"Minho, what's Wicked?"
He stopped.
"Where have you heard that?" He asked.
"In a dream I had, these people kept talking about it."
"Well, all I can tell you is that it's the people that sent us here."
And he walked out.
I got up and walked out too.
It was weird walking, it felt like I hadn't walked for months.
I followed Minho.
"Hey! How long was I asleep?" I called out.
He turned around and started walking backwards.
"A month and a half, we got a new Greenie!"
Then he started jogging to wherever he was going.
A month!
I was asleep for a month!
A tap on my shoulder interrupted my thoughts.
I spun around and saw a younger looking boy standing there.
"Hey." He said joyfully.
"Hi." I replied.
"I'm Chuck, the new Greenie."
He stuck out his hand.
I took it and said,
"I'm Bella, the former one."
A guy I didn't recognize came jogging over.
"Hey Greenie, Bella is already taken." He said mockingly.
Chuck rolled his eyes.
"Who's that?" I asked.
"Don't know, he's a runner though." He said.
"Runner?"
Chuck looked at me.
"You seriously don't know what a runner is?" He asked.
"Um, no." I replied.
"They go out into the maze every day and look for a way out."
"Wait, I thought the maze was off limits." I said.
"It is, but that's their job. How did you not know? Ben is one of them." He said.
Ben lied to me about being a builder?
"So why isn't anyone allowed in the maze?" I asked.
"Because you could get lost and trapped inside overnight, and no one has ever survived a night in the maze, because of the Grievers."
"I survived a night in there." I said.
"When?" He asked.
"My first day."
"Well I guess it makes since then." He said. "They didn't want to tell you about all of that, because they didn't want you to have a big ego about it."
I sighed.
"Thanks for the information Chuck." I said.
Then I walked toward the homestead.
Ben was still sleeping when I got back.
I waited five minutes before he finally woke up.
"You're awake!" He said.
I glared at him.
"What?" He asked.
I sat on the bed.
"What's it like, being a runner?" I asked.
He looked at the ceiling.
"Chuck." He said accusingly.
I raised my eyebrows.
"I really wanted to tell you, but Alby and Newt made me, and the rest of the Glade, promise not to."
"It's a little late for that."
I walked out.
I wanted to be alone, so I walked over to the entrance of the maze, and sat down next to it.
Ben came by.
"I just wanted to let you know that Gally was banished."
I gave him a confused look.
"Put in the maze overnight as punishment for hurting you."
I nodded.
"We should be getting a new Greenie next week." He said.
I was thinking about my "powers".
I decided to try to use them.
I was doing something with my brain, I could tell.
Soon after, a Griever came out of the entrance.
Ben tried to pull me to my feet, but when he touched me the Griever attacked him.
I stopped whatever I was doing with my brain, and the Griever went back into the maze.
I had to get help.
I saw Newt.
"Help!" I yelled.
He ran over.
"What happened?" He asked.
"He was attacked by a Griever."
"Now?"
I nodded.
"Okay, help me pick him up. We have to get him to Clint and Jeff."
Newt picked up his upper body and I carried his legs.
We carried him to the homestead.
Now it was my turn, to wait for someone to wake up.
And it was my fault.
