"January promises"

in January we make promises

with the intent to keep them

like exercising more or eat better

lose our belly fat, or join that gym club

I'm going to stop smoking cigarettes

or stop partying so much on weekends

become vegetarian or vegan

and book that trip to South America

I will write that novel in my head

quit your dead end job, start your own business

start searching for love in the right places

stop dating deadbeats and womanizers

but we know these will become false tales

by the end of the month those promises

will be broken and soon long forgotten
