Chapter 20: Actions

Error hummed in content, his mismatched eyelights showing how calm he was. In the blank void was the strings and souls that he had hung up when he had been in his own multiverse and a new set of puppets decorated the blank, white floor of his home.

They all had similar aspects to the normal Undertale Sans yet they were still different. One had a hoodie on with purple buttons as its eyes and another had a black patch on his head, making it look like a hole had been carved into the puppet. This one held an axe. One puppet had black fabric running down its plush face and another was wearing clothes for the coldest regions and belt a massive felt knife. The last puppet was yet to be finished and was made out of black fabric with three tentacles attached to its back, another being added on by the maker. It had one single blue button as an eye and it held a kind expression. "I wOndEr hoW tHe gaNg iS" Error mused after a while before a shadow crossed over his expression. "ThEy pRobabLy thInk I'm deAd" he muttered. "I diD juMp inTo tHe vOiD." He continued before sitting up in realization. "Wait, hoW aRe thE sOuLs aNd stRingS hEre?!" The Destroyer stood up and looked around the vast space with narrowed eyes.

...

The puppets were glowing.

Dimly but still glowing.

And Error knew his puppets didn't glow before.

"WhAt iN thE StArs?" Error grumbled as he pulled down a Sci Sans puppet, he tapped the puppet in confusion and yelped when a holographic-like screen appeared around the toy. There were two folders. One was named NAJVERSE and the other was named MEMORYVERSE. Error tapped on the one that was named 'MEMORYVERSE' and five files appeared as the screen changed. Stats.txt, Code.bat, Personality.txt, Current.mp4, and Other.txt.

Error frowned at the newfound ability and decided to see what Current.mp4 was by tapping on the hologram lightly. A larger screen appeared in front of Error and started to show him the Sci sans that he was familiar with, the screen acted like the windows he would use when he watched Undernovela or was keeping watch over Blue. Error blinked.

This was unexpected.

He has gained two new abilities since he has entered this Multiverse and he knew more were to come. "I sHouLd pRobaBlY gEt a nEw nAmE" Error then mumbled. A few minutes later, he had a list of names written on a piece of paper that he may or may not have taken from the NAJ universe's Ink.

'Faux

Erratum

Mistake'

Error hummed and looked at the three names, not noticing that he was subconsciously writing another.

'Mercy'

He looked over the list again and didn't notice that Merciful was one that he had not written, instead, he seemed to like the name. "I'll go wItH Mercy" he smiled. The name rolled off his tongues smoothly and he felt his broken, mangled soul jump at the name. The newly named 'Mercy' was about to go and study the multiverse's code more when he felt something tug his soul, to be more specific, a string. A string that he had secretly wrapped around a child's soul.

"GrAdiEnT-"

The small skeleton walked out the alleyway towards his school. The dreaded school. His new bag was hanging on one of his shoulders and his black skeletal hand clutched it tightly, his eye light was dim in fear as he approached the school. The walk through the alleyway wasn't something he feared. No, he didn't fear the thieves, the dark, the possible murderers. No. He feared the open area. The place where seemingly innocent teenagers walk to the place where they learn and make friends.

He feared his family- Gradient let out a small yelp as he bumped into someone during his small walk-in fantasy land. The sound of books falling onto the concrete floor echoed through the street as others stopped to stare at what the commotion was.

"I-I'm sorry!" Gradients stuttered, going onto his knees to pick the books up. A pure white skeletal hand stopped him. "It's alright" the kind voice of a

male reached Gradient's non-existent ears. He looked up to see a hooded skeleton who smiled warmly at the other skeleton and had a long red scarf trailing down, barely avoiding the floor.

"It wasn't your fault, I wasn't looking" the mysterious skeleton laughed. Gradient gulped and quickly picked the rest of the books up and handed it over to the new student. The new student looked at him weirdly and took his books.

"There's no need to be nervous. You only bumped into me, nothing else." Nothing else? Nothing else?! Normally if Gradient bumped into someone, he would be beaten for it! By his parents and bullies! "I-I'll get out of your way now!" Gradient ran away like the coward he was.

Why was the stranger so nice? Didn't he know what the others did to people who were nice to him?!! He didn't care that students were staring at him as he ran through the entrance of the building. He didn't care that his brother was going to bully him later. He simply didn't car- someone grabbed his arm.

"Gradient"

The child froze

He turned around

THUMP

He was being held against the lockers

"Where were you last night?"

By his own father

"Answer me"

Who was taking advantage of the fact that there was no one around

"ANSWER ME!"

"ExCusE mE"

The angry PE teacher quickly let go of his son and gave a worried look. "Do you know what happened to my son? I found him here, injured!" The father asked with fake concern.

"He hAs nO inJuriEs"

The father froze. Not only at the weird glitchy voice but also by how cold it was.

"AnYwAys, dO yOu knOw wHeRe I cAn Sign up fOr thE joB?"

The father nodded quickly and ran out the door, ready to show the stranger where the reception was.

Gradient looked up. His savior glanced at Gradient with a small smile. "Go bEfoRe hE coMes bAck".

It was Error

Not his father

But Error

"....thank you"

The creator glared at the wardrobe as he struggled to find the correct clothing. He had sent out a clone made out of his life-giving ink earlier to deal with the... damaged god of death. Another clone had also been sent out to find the missing guardian of positivity. He growled and decided to try something different for today. Well, not exactly different. The last time he wore this it was when he met that other god of creation, what was his name again? She? She will? She'll? Or was it Shell? Eh. He wasn't going to remember any time soon. Besides, who cares? He didn't. (I care!)

Ink hummed and took off his clothing before putting on the new one, it looked nice on him. He definitely favored his brush-like always, who doesn't favor his brush? Broomy never disappoints. The creator frowned when his necklace lit up in a vibrant red. He tsked, his little minion had found the reaper. Along with... the slut. With one more look at the mirror he marched out the room, brush in hand, ready to do some... fixing...

————

"We need to run! Now!" The god of death panicked, his aura of death spreading, though, still not touching Lust. Lust didn't know why he felt the feeling of panic in his bones. The feeling of fear drowned out all other emotions in the room and its overwhelming aura was sure to attract the attention of a certain octopus. "where?!" Lust yelled as the footsteps of the creator became louder, he didn't ask why the literal god of death was terrified of the creator but it had to be serious for a reaction like that to come out of the nearly always emotionless looking reaper.

"Stars dammit! I don't know what he did but I know he did SOMETHING to affect our freaking memories and emotions!"

"You mean he reset the entire multiverse and got rid of a sans that I'm guessing is called Geno who was actually someone extremely important to this multiverse and you. I am also guessing Ink wanted to get rid of him so he reset the multiverse and kidnapped him?? And if he really is as important as the sounds like he is then doesn't that mean that Ink wouldn't get rid of him and would instead drag him somewhere he can't get out of like, I don't know, maybe the anti-void? And if that is what happened to this Geno guy then wouldn't his code get corrupted or something? That would mean his memories also got wiped and he would forget all about who he was and would go insane leaving him as a twisted, more insane version of himself-"

Reaper has stopped moving altogether and was staring at the slim skeleton with a confused look. "What?"

Lust stopped and shrugged. "You wouldn't understand... and to be honest, I don't even understand myself either."

The silence after that was unnerving. But it ended because of a certain creator slamming the door open. Something behind the creator melted into ink. "Hello there Reaper" He smiled.

"Now. Let us talk about Geno"
