Memorial Day 2014

This is for the veterans, fallen soldiers, and currently active military. Thank you for serving our country and protecting us. Words cannot describe how grateful we are for your service. Here is a story for you.

The Memorial Wall in D.C had the names of men both young and old. There were Sons, Fathers, Grandfathers, Brothers, Cousins, Uncles that didn't come home. They made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and liberty. Flowers lined the whole wall along with teddy bears, dog tags, cards, and tears.

An elderly woman went up to the wall and placed a hand on the wall. She read the name of her fiance that had gone off to war to fight. She silently cried as she remembered her dear fiance.

A young man, maybe in his twenties, went to the wall and looked for the name of his grandfather that had died in a helicopter crash. He held back the tears in his eyes as he read the name out loud.

A little toddler girl that was being wheeled by the wall in a strolled placed her chubby hand to the wall. Her hand laid over the name "Larry D Austin". (That's a real person's name on the wall.) For some reason, the little girl began crying for no reason.

The men and women that fought, and still fight, for our freedom are the bravest of us all. They put their lives in danger for strangers they don't even know so that way we can live the lives we live today. Some men and women come home with amputated legs or with PTS. Some come home in coffins covered with the colors red, white and blue.

Sometimes we take advantage of the lives we live. We don't think about our brave men and women that fight for our lives, sometimes losing their own in the process. Sometimes we think that if we are not affected then we can just forget it. However, some people don't realize that they are affected by war; whether it be in the past, present, or future.

I will admit it; I don't know if I could ever go over seas to fight for our country. I could never leave my family for months to years in order to fight for the freedoms that we enjoy today.

The whole thing about our uniformed men and women is that they have the courage, the heart, to fight for others without thinking about themselves. To them, I say thank you. You are brave, strong, and amazing.

Memorial day isn't just some day where you get out of school or work. It's a day to remember our fallen military personnel, our veterans, our current active duty members. So as you relax on Memorial's day, take time to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. And if you meet a military personnel, tell them thank you for their service.

I know it's not the best, or longest story, but it's the thought that counts right? Please, today, heck any day, remember those who served to protect us and our rights.
