Part 60 - Chapter 11 - Home At Last (2/2)
POEM FROM A MIDDLE OLD MAN TO THE MIDDLE CHILDREN
Home...
It isn't where everyone looks and sounds like us,
It isn't where everyone loves us,
It's even less where we fell into this world.
Home is the fertile environment and all its elements that make us grow brave and strong.
*
I know, being a middle child isn't easy,
But neither is human life.
So,
Choosing one side or the other will make no difference to the pain that gnaws at us all,
Always more, every day more.
*
Middle children caught between two lands, two cultures, two languages, two ideologies, two colours, two religions, two sexes,
Two diametrically opposite sides,
Don't get scared and don't shrink!
Stay exactly where you are and stand firm, strong!
The world will eventually accept us all as we are.
*
If the earth brought us out of its womb,
It's because life looked at us and found us just right.
So,
Choose to stay, to be, to love, and to understand the origin of the pain that gnaws at us all,
Instead of shaking in fear more and more, more and more every day.
*
And if the world becomes too cruel and imposes a too heavy burden on you,
Let me know, and no matter how crumpled and fragile my little old man's body may be,
I will carry your sorrows above the stairs of the parliament
To claim your original justice there.
Thanks to the gene inherited from my mother and the recklessness and ingenuity passed on to me by my father,
I am making this promise to you.
The End
