Fantasmical Character
Basic Information
Name: Calistria Nyenwing
Nickname(s): Cali, Lis
Age: 23 years
Birthday: December 29th
Eye Color: Gold
Hair Color: Pure White
Length/Style: Long, reaching just below her bust. It is kept parted down the center and has a natural wave to it, resembling the gentle hills of rolling snow during the winter. Normally her hair is left down to cascade over her shoulders and flow freely, but she keeps a crimson ribbon with her to quickly tie it up if the occasion calls for it. She finds the need to put her hair up a bit tedious and gets frustrated easily over having to style her hair in any way for special occasions she may need to attend.
Height: 5 foot 6 inches (167 cm)
Species: Dragon/Elf
Personality: Typically a rather quiet and self reserved young woman, she tends to keep to herself. She doesn't easily open up to people or find trusting them a simple task considering how she grew up, but the moment she does show any trust or opens up to someone, a person should hold on to that. She's very kind and has a love for children, loving to watch them run around and live their lives freely as innocence was one thing that was stolen from her at a young age. Just like anyone else, however, her kindness also has its opposite trait. She does have a temper that stems from her draconic lineage, one that would never be wished upon any person. She cares with her whole heart, protecting those around her with every ounce of her being, even if that means she gets hurt in the process. However, she is not against leaving someone if they have wronged her or someone she deeply cares about. With that being said, it does leave her with a sense of guilt when she does leave people behind. . . be it unintentionally or intentionally.
With the life that she has grown up and lived so far within her 23 years, she finds herself being careful at every step. There is a sadness within her that she bottles up, a sadness stemming from her being an outcast to those around her. She is dedicated to proving that she can be a part of society without the people in her village worrying about her doing something to harm them. She will do everything she can to show them she is no threat to anyone, though, these actions may have led to her causing small accidents within her home village from time-to-time. Though unintentional accidents, it has pushed the village people to keep their distance from her.
She has a natural motherly sense to her, a calming aura to those who allow her near them. It's something that has always come easily to her, to care for those in need and ease their pain and suffering. There is nothing she won't do to try and save someone's life or ease their suffering in any way possible. However, one must want her to do so before she does anything. She will not force herself into one's life if she does not see the need to do so, however, there are certain circumstances where she will do so if need be. Loss is not something she takes easily, though not many do, but she takes it rather hard. She has been known to cut herself off and sit in solitude, mourning and grieving for those that have passed. The closer she is to someone, the harder it is, which is why she tries to keep the circle of people she know small.
Quirks/Habits: When she's nervous or overly anxious she will tend to pick at her clothing or twirl a strand of her hair around her fingers. On occasion she can be seen biting her lower lip and chewing on it nervously if she is uncertain what to say or do in a situation. . . unless she was found guilty of accidentally doing something she shouldn't have. Especially if something had gone wrong.
More In Depth
Schooling: Finished her basic schooling and pursuing further studies in specific specialties. She has had teachings in medicine and healing as well as some minor schooling in combat to protect herself.
Career: Currently Unemployed, though she does sell medicinal remedies at the market from time-to-time to keep a steady income coming through.
Interests: Highly interested in medicinal herbs and studying their different uses. She is interested in one day becoming a traveling doctor, helping those around the kingdom's many villages, cities and towns any way she possibly can. She is also interested in simply traveling, hoping to one day see the world and what truly lies beyond her home village.
Likes: Fresh strawberries and blueberries, watching the sunset over the hills just outside the village. She loves going for walks through the forest, allowing nature to take over and calm her chaotic spirit. Books and reading are two of her favorite things. Traveling, wanting to see the world and what it truly has to offer knowing it's much bigger out there than the tiny little village she has called home all her life. Sticking her feet into the ocean, letting the waves lap at her ankles while the breeze rushes around her. She loves all animals, but her favorites have to be cats, horses and birds. To her, all animal life is just as precious as the people living within the world. She loves rain showers, letting the rain fall over her as if it were washing everything away. If you're fortunate enough, one could probably catch her dancing around or playing in the rain as it pours down.
Dislikes: When it comes to foods, she can't really stand overly spicy foods. She will attempt to eat them, but in all reality, she doesn't have a high spice tolerance. She doesn't care for alcohol, the taste of it something she doesn't care for at all. She also hates what it can do to a man or woman who has had their fill and much more of it. She really doesn't like arrogance or people who try to assert themselves as higher up than what they really are. Even if their status is above that of another person, she highly dislikes when they use their status to manipulate those around them. Oddly enough, for being someone who wants a career in medicine, she doesn't like the sight of blood. The very sight actually makes her light headed and queasy. In extreme cases, she tends to pass out at the sight. However, she isn't going to let that stop her from becoming the traveling medicine woman she wants to become so she can help people the best she can. She dislikes rudeness, but who doesn't?
Fears: To start out, she is absolutely terrified of snakes, spiders and centipedes. They absolutely terrify her, some saying they've never seen a person run so fast upon seeing such tiny creatures. Oddly enough, for a dragon halfling, she's scared of heights. She gets really bad vertigo and will turn into an absolute child, dropping to her knees and crying. She will even go as far as begging to get away from the edge if she possibly can get that tactic to work. She fears losing people, especially those that are extremely close to her. The loss of any life by her hands always seems to haunt her. Large dogs cause her extreme anxiety and it takes quite a bit to work her up to even getting close to them. With that being said, she tends to stay behind someone or tries to find some way out of being around any form of large dog if she can help it. Just being around them causing her to get shaky and hyperventilate. If there's one thing she is afraid of the most though, it's being locked in a tight room (or any room at that) and feeling trapped, or being stuck in the dark. Both claustrophobic and terrified of dark places, it makes it rather difficult for her to go into certain locations. Though, if she wants to be a traveling medicine woman, she knows she has to find some way to fight through these fears so she can help those around the kingdom.
Skills: She has some medicinal knowledge, taught to her by a local medicine man in her village. She has enough skill to manage minor wounds, stitch up large gashes and manage wounds till a more skilled medicinal worker or doctor can be reached.
She has some minor fighting knowledge, having gone and taken classes at a nearby school run by some ex-soldiers that had found their home in her tiny village. She has enough knowledge to defend herself if she needs to, but even her knowledge has its limits.
She has a decent knowledge of herbs due to her medicinal knowledge and can hunt them down along the nearby roads and in the forests/caves in the surrounding areas. She also has enough knowledge of them to tell the poisonous between the non-poisonous ones, able to use this knowledge to either help or hinder a person's health depending on the circumstances.
Coming from her elven ancestry, she has a natural ability with stealth and tracking/hunting. However, her stealth is far better than her tracking abilities. When it comes to her stealth, she is already light footed and quiet in her daily life that stealth comes easily for her. Her tracking/hunting, where her ancestors of elve were able to follows tracks up to days, weeks or even months old, she has nearly zero tracking and hunting skill. Being more on the peaceful side and not finding the need to hunt, leaving that up to the hunters of the village and buying fresh kill from the nearby meat market in her home village.
Hobbies: She finds reading a rather soothing hobby. Not only can she read and get lost within the writings of her favorite scholars and authors, but she can get lost within the worlds and teachings both have to offer her.
Gardening has always been a favorite of hers. Not only does it keep her out of the house, but she is able to plant any new herbs she finds out on her walks through the forest. This makes it easier for her to make the medicines she sells at the markets, but it also expands the different types of medicines she can create to help those that need it.
She finds it settling to her soul to go on walks through the forests away from the chaos of her home village. Sometimes she will go barefoot just to feel the soft grass beneath her feet, bringing her closer to the nature she loves so much.
One of her main hobbies, and it could just come from her natural love of medicine and the world around her, but she has an absolute love for learning. The love has blossomed for learning that it has now become more of a hobby since she has finished her schooling. Whether it be by book or her own experiences, she loves to learn whatever she can, be it to help those around her or just for her own natural gain.
Strengths: She is rather good at problem solving, identifying issues and brainstorming them with others (when others are willing to work with her). However, most of the time she does the problem solving herself and implements the solutions herself. She has a habit of thinking out of the box, but because of that, it makes others uncomfortable and they tend to stray from her given ideas.
She has a good sense of adaptability, comfortable and responsive to the changing situations of her surrounding environments. It has been something she has learned to do since she was rather little, especially with so few opportunities being open to her with the village keeping their distance from her when possible.
Communication could be both a strength and a weakness to her. She is able to speak to people, however, there are times when communication fails on both parts. When she is spoken to, one can tell how intelligent she is and how friendly she can be, especially when it comes to being a team player.
She finds herself being a semi-patient person, her patience only able to take so much however. If someone pushes her too far, she tends to snap. However, with her patience comes her honesty. She has always been honest with those around her, not seeing a reason to not be so. At least if she's honest, no matter the outcome, she won't feel guilty for having lied in any way. Though, there is a time and place when secrets must be kept.
Weaknesses: Communication tends to be a huge weakness of hers. Growing up with people around you that avoid you, being quiet and keeping to herself, nothing tends to get spoken about or done. She comes off as cold and people tend to avoid her when it comes to such a feeling, especially when she isn't certain how to communicate how she is feeling or what she needs in a correct manner. There always seems to be some sort of misunderstanding around her.
When it comes to speaking to a large crowd, she finds herself freezing and rushing right into a panic. It becomes hard to breath and it's as if her voice had been snatched from her. Large crowds make her very uncomfortable and nervous.
She does tend to self-criticise quite a bit, wondering if she has done the right thing or not. If she has messed up something, said the right thing, or if she's just causing problems for others. We are our own worst critics, but she tends to take it to an entirely new level not wanting to cause problems for anyone she may come in contact with.
Abilities: Still untapped and unlearned, she has the ability to manipulate ice and fire. Both a pyro and cryokinetic user, both are harbored from her draconic and elven lineage.
From her elven lineage she has a natural adaptation to colder environments, seeming to have an innate immunity to the cold.
At will, though having yet to still learn, she can cause dragon wings to spring from her back and cause them to vanish when needed. They are an icy grey color and are not the full size of a full blooded dragonborn, but are large enough for a human sized person to have without getting in the way. It will allow her to fly for short distances and add an aerial advantage to her arsenal of things she can do when learned.
Family/Friends
Home Village: Cedarbrook Village, Cedar Forest within the Kingdom of Avynpael
Home Description: Within the forest of Avynpael kingdom, the small village of Cedarbrook rests in peaceful hiding. Like a central trading hub for all that travel through, the small village of people make up for lack of population with their goods they have to trade. With houses made of the cleared out treewood surrounding their home, it is shown that they are a tight knit community that looks out for one another. The village has a single Inn (Draken Inn) that has two upstairs bedrooms that can be rented out and a downstairs that doubles as a pub/bar as well. It's a general gathering space for traders, fisherman and travelers that pass through Cedarbrook during their travels. Typical forest animals scurry and skitter through the streets from time to time: rabbits, squirrels, deer, fox....though there is the rare occasion of bears and wolves roaming through causing everyone to close down shop and stay inside the house till they're gone. However, it is birds of every breed seems to be the main thing kept around the village. Birds used for sending messages between villages when the mail carrier doesn't come through, they rely on the animals and the birds to aid them when needed.
With their home deep in the forest, they tend to avoid any type of war or battles that may have been waged outside of Cedar Forest. The trees and natural animals that surround the area give a natural covering and place to hide Cedarbrook from any threats that are outside of Cedar Forest. They use the environment around them to keep themselves safe, but there's only so much one can do with the resources around them. The village of Cedarbrook is relatively safe and thrives on their peacefulness. Kids running around playing, adults working their jobs and having family time whenever possible, and happiness that seems to spurt out of everyone. The only thing the people of Cedarbrook have problems with is their outside resident in the little cottage not too far away.
Cedarbrook Village is known specifically for their trading market, a small area just off the main village. People from all over come to trade with those from the village, but also to set up shop from all over the world. It's a small market, but it tends to be the center of the trading hub for those who manage to come through Cedarbrook Village.
House: She still remains in the home that her parents lived in when she was just a baby. The front and back of the cottage is nothing more than white painted wood, but its sides are made of fading crimson bricks. The left side holds the same fading crimson brick, but it's built up into a smokestack showing where the fireplace of the cottage is. A soft brownwood door is at the front with matching windows on either side of it. Dangling foliage hangs off the edges of the brown slatted roof, leaved flowers of purple and blues growing in random sections along the roof itself and on the outer walls giving it a beautifully elegant look. Soft curtains of white hang from the inside, closing off the world around her that the forested trees surrounding her home couldn't do.
There are small gardens with herbs and flowers that rest off to the right of the cottage, grown under a small canopy of a wooden lattice covering. Green grass covers the ground with a tiny stream that runs outside the front of the home, a small stone bridge over the stream so one can get from the front yard to the main walk on the other side. An added stone walkway stretches from the front door to the bridge. Little wild flowers speckle the grass, giving more color to the cottage, leaving the outside rather beautiful.
Inside, you enter into a living area where a soft plush couch sits, its design making it all too obvious that it handmade at its beginning. A chair sat to its left, facing a fireplace that kept the cottage warm in the colder months that would hit the village. A handmade dining room table with three seats sitting at it resided in a small kitchen, the wood for the cabinets having been gathered by the trees surrounding the homestead itself. Off of the kitchen is a small bathroom, a single bathtub, toilet and sink occupying the space. The floor is a light wood, a mirror hanging over the sink and a towel that rests over the edge of the bathtub for quick use. Nearby to the left of the bathroom is the only room within the cottage.
As a child, she shared the room with her parents, but upon their death it became her own to decorate as she saw fit. It has a single bed, made soft by the wool that's been sheared by farmers and sold in the marketplace. The same with her pillows, but the blankets have been all handmade and sewn with fabrics brought in from outside of the village, from other towns and cities surrounding he area. She has handmade wood dressers and side tables, where candles and personal items sit. There are books of all kinds stacked on the dresser, sitting there waiting for her to pick up and disappear into as she reads. Her home is a cozy little place where she can hide away when the village people's cruelties become far too much for her. Her home is her safe spot, no one ever really coming by, not wanting to be near her in any way.

Other
Scars: She has a long, thin scar that curves from the front of her right hip and curves around it to end in a perfect crescent on her back. It's a light pinkish in color as it has long since healed, but she has been told it has been there since she was nothing more than a baby. Its origins however, to her, is completely unknown as her 'parents' refused to tell her where she had gotten it.
Birthmarks: She has a small birthmark on the back of her neck under her hair. It is of three stars that sit at three points making a triangular shape if you connected them. Other than that, these are the only two allergies she is absolutely aware of.
Piercings: She only has her ears pierced, but her long white hair tends to cover the pearly studs that she wears on a daily basis.
Jewelry: She has a necklace she wears all the time. It's in the shape of a light pearlescent blue crystal that you can see through, her name inscribed in delicate flaming letters frozen within the crystal itself. It was the only way that her adoptive parents knew what her name was when they found her, as it was the only thing she had on her aside from the clothes on her back and the blanket tightly bound around her.
Weaponry: Swords/daggers -- She has some practice with swordplay, but only enough to actually protect herself when needed. She refuses to use any weapons though to hurt anyone since she wants to be a wandering medical woman. Though, the knowledge of how to use a sword or dagger will come in handy if she does need to defend herself.
Hand-to-Hand -- She has basic knowledge of hand to hand self defense, able to fight and use it in self defense when needed. She's still not well with hand-to-hand, but she does have it within her arsenal if she needs to protect herself or others.
Background/Biography
Born on the 29th of December at the end of their Winter Solstice to a pureblood dragonborn named Aceryn Nyenwing and Celestia Winterfell, a northern elf, Calistria entered the world making the lives of her parents one of the happiest days ever. A precious baby girl, born a hybrid of Dragon and elf even if her birth was looked down upon. Dragons and elves had never seen eye to eye, but Aceryn and Celestia had broken that cycle, birthing the first born hybrid of their kind. The hope for a future where their two species could coincide with one another as they have, bringing a peace between the two species. It was a hope for everyone, not just Dragons and Elves, but every race out there that couldn't get along with one another. It was a hope that one day everyone could share the world and live in a peaceful state.
However, that day would never come.
Barely a month old, Calistria Nyenwing was cradled within her mother's arms with her father's presence nowhere to be seen. The day had grown long, dark and the harsh snows of winter's end were pummeling the northern elf keep where Celestia's family had always resided. The Winterfell family holding noble blood within their veins, controlling and watching over those who resided deep within the keep's walls. However, there was none other that needed more protection than the nobles that sat within them, including their youngest member Calistria. . . dragonborn and elf born.
Among the storm, no one knew the threat that was going to be coming their way. No one was aware of the reason why their dragonborn ruler Aceryn had not returned with the elven battalion that he had taken along with him to scout out he northern terrains for any dangers roaming around their home. No one knew that their home already had dangers running around within their keep's walls.
Explosions erupted over the rushing winds outside, flames being carried upon the snow filled storm outside. Heat that raged so hot burned whatever it could grasp hold of. Calistria would never remember the battle that started at the end of the beginning of the year, she would always be too little to remember the slaughter that was wiping out her people, her family and what would have been her friends if she would have been able to grow up within the northern keep. Instead, her mother had taken her, hoping to escape to safety with the last part of Aceryn she would have if they could both escape. Though, fate had other plans for them.
Celestia, Calistria's mother, had barely made it out into the frozen tundra that remained their territory in the frozen hills before stopping and staring out into the snow storm. Aceryn was fighting off the battalion he had taken with him on top of those she did not recognize. Her husband struggled as the young Calistria cried against the ice cold that reddened her delicate skin. Though, her cries were not for the cold as she had a natural immunity to the cold from her mother's side of the family. No, it was from all the noise and the chaos that had erupted outside around them.
The snow was tainted crimson, so many people were fighting while others ran screaming and begging for mercy. The peaceful had disappeared and chaos had built within seconds, people fighting left and right with an unknown enemy. Some were their own, it was clear to see by Calistria's father's battle with those he had went out with. The rest, it was a complete mystery.
In a last ditch effort to save her daughter, Celestia took off and hid her among the thick trees roots that spotted their frozen keep.
With her mother's final words of love, her hopes for her daughter's future and maybe one day she would live in a world of peace, Celestia left her daughter crying under the shielding roots of the tree. It would be hours before anyone would walk by, hours before anyone would find the screaming child lying beneath the roots of a tree just feet away from where the carnage of a slaughter had taken place. It would hours before an unexpected rescue would take place and Calistria would be given the home she had lost not hours before.
A young couple traveling through the area and returning home had come across the carnage that had taken place. Horrified, young couple Davis and Aylen couldn't help but search for survivors within he piles of bodies that were littered right before them.
If it hadn't been for the storm having died down hours after the battle took place, neither Aylen or Davis would have heard Calistria's cries out in the distance. No one would have known she had even managed to survive, a single infant barely a month out of her mother's womb wailing in the distance of what should have been a complete massacre.
Aylen and Davis found Calistria hidden under those roots, a wound still etched into her side as they pulled her free from the cover that her mother had tried to hide her in. The woman that had once been Celestia laying mere feet away from where her daughter once lay. Now Celestia lay face down in the snow while Calistria lie cradled in Aylen's arms as the young woman stared on, horrified by the sight she witnessed with her husband. At the same time, both of them knew exactly what they needed to do, what had to be done in order for those laying before them could rest peacefully and all of this to never be mentioned of at all.
The young couple decided to take Calistria in, burying the bodies of her kin, her people and those that did not deserve such a generosity. A final night spent in a home that would only become nothing but ruin within the coming years that would pass. A final night that the young infant girl would never remember, which would probably be for the best so she could live a life not remembering such pains of this horrid day.
After that night, the young couple with their new infant daughter made the trek back home to Cedarbrook, back to where that little girl would once more call home herself.
For years, the young infant girl known as Calistria grew up in a small cottage alongside the people she believed to be her parents. She never questioned why she looked different, why both her parents were brunettes, yet she had white hair and unusually golden colored eyes. She didn't care, they were her parents and they were a family.
However, not everyone in Cedarbrook Village felt the same way.
Calistria would be teased at school by her peers for her looks and being different. She would be outcasted and called as such, even the adults going as far as to calling her a witch for some things she was able to do naturally at such a young age. Her knowledge of medicinal herbs already there and her like for the nature around her, people called her obsessive and kept their distance afraid of what she might be, not knowing who she truly was. She never grew up with the elven pointed ears, no dragon wings. She only had the pale white hair and golden eyes, trademarks of the birth parents she would never know or know of. To her, she was human like everyone else in the village.
No one watched out for her aside from her parents and a single friend that went out of his way to try and befriend her. Daewyn was his name and he was at her side when she finally let him in, finally trusted him enough to call him a friend. He was there when she needed him, he gave her the strength she needed to continue on. Though, being away from him was an entirely different story.
When Calistria was alone, that's when everyone seemed to strike at once. They would bully her, knock her into the mud, repeat names that adults had called her at one point. There was even a time they had left her deep in the forest thinking she would remain lost forever out of there. However, she proved them wrong when she walked back into the village covered in dirt and her clothes ripped and dirtied from the trek home. No one realized she knew her way through the forest as well as she had.
Through all her years in school though, she never once fought back. Instead, she stayed vigilant with her studies and even went into studying with a local medicine man to advance in her medical career she aimed for. She trained with a local ex-militant and became really close to him, the man almost like an older brother to her, much like she saw Daewyn. She would do all she could to try and make certain that she could reach her dreams at any given cost, even if it meant long hours of studying textbooks or long hours practicing with an ex-military soldier so she could defend herself. However, that also left her blind to the tragedy that would soon befall her.
At the age of sixteen years old, she got the news that her parents weren't coming home. After having left on one of their basic trips, their horse and carriage were found outside one of the neighboring villages on an inbetween road. The whole thing was shredded and there was no sign of their bodies.
Mourning was the easy part, learning to live on her own and with people ignoring her and pushing her away, that was the more difficult part. Being shunned by the people living in a place you called home, being blamed for the death of two good people and being called a Hex, a curse, a bad omen on the village. . . living with that guilt and shame was hard to push through. Even with Daewyn and Rowan's help, it was still difficult, but she managed to do so somehow.
Now, after graduating from school and continuing her studies to some degree, Calistria lives on her own in the cottage her parents had owned. She makes her living making medicinal salves and medicines, selling them at the market to those willing to buy them. She is working towards actually saying goodbye to Cedarbrook Village so she could pursue her true calling of being out there on the road. All she wants to do is travel, heal the sick and wounded and help those that are in need.
Though, somehow, she feels like there is a lot more to her drive on getting out of there. Somehow, she feels as if something is calling to her, a mysterious force pulling her out into the openness of the world where she needs to be. Whatever it is, it's also causing the hesitancy she has in leaving the home she grew up in behind and seeking out the answers swirling in her mind;
Who is it?
What's out there?
What's calling to her?
Why her?
