A CHLID WITH chocolate locks sat in the middle of a small hut playing with wooden toys. Another girl with hair shiny like the sun sat beside her. Faint screaming was heard in another room before a wail. The two small girls looked at each other and smiled before getting up and running into the room.
"What is it, papa? Is it a girl or a boy," the blonde child asked.
"It's a boy," Mikael replied.
"I knew it," the brunette cheered.
"I wanted another sister," the blonde pouted before she went on her tippy toes and looked at the sleeping baby, "But I guess he will do when we play dress up. What do you think Ravenna?"
Ravenna went onto her toes and smiled at the baby, "I think he'll be perfect for dress-up, Freya."
THE SCENE changed and young Ravenna and Freya giggled as they ran around the woods. Ravenna was 5 and Freya was 6. Finn was now 4.
Freya shushed Ravenna before she said aloud, "I wonder where Finny could be hiding?" Faint giggling could be heard from behind a tree in front of them.
"I don't know Freya," Ravenna replied loudly. The two girls then jumped towards the tree.
"Boo!"
Finn squealed and they all laughed.
"Freya! Ravenna! Finn!" They heard Esther call. They ran towards her and saw her standing with a woman. She had hair like the night and, in Ravenna's opinion, evil eyes which immediately darted to Freya who was leading the pack.
"Freya this is Dahlia. My sister. You will be staying with her for a while," Esther explained tearily. Ravenna stepped in front of her older sister.
"Why?"
"This does not concern you, child," Dahlia replied, sidestepping her and grabbing Freya by the wrists.
Freya looked scared and tears gathered in her eyes, "Mama why am I going with her. Did I do something wrong?"
"No child. Your mother and I made a deal and now you have to come with me," Dahlia started to drag the blond away before she screamed out in pain. Ravenna was latched onto her leg and pulling her back. Her petite hands glowed a bright red.
"Ravenna let go," Esther ordered. Finn clutched onto her leg with tears streaming down his red cheeks.
"You're not taking my sister."
Dahlia had enough. She muttered a spell and Ravenna dropped to the ground. She picked Freya up and trudged off into the woods. Esther knelt beside her second oldest child and picked her up going into the house.
RAVENNA was now older. Esther had done spell after spell and twisted her mind into thinking that Freya died of the Plague. When Mikael returned from the battle the family moved. Over the years Ravenna and Fin had gained more siblings. Three little brothers, Elijah, Niklaus then Kol, a sister, Rebekah and another brother Henrik.
Ravenna was sitting by a creek the morning after the full moon when she heard shouting. She stood quickly and ran towards her home. Esther was screaming in anguish as she held a body.
"What happened?" Ravenna trailed as Esther's hair blew in the cold wind, revealing the face of her youngest brother. Her hand raised to her mouth and tears leaked out of her eyes.
"This foolish boy went out of the full moon," Mikael yelled at Niklaus who was knelt in the dirt beside his dead brother.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean for him to get hurt," Niklaus whispered.
"Yes but he did now didn't he and that's your fault," Mikael shouted.
"Father," Mikael looked up at his oldest daughter, "It is not his fault. They came to me last night and asked me to go. I said they could. It is my fault that Henrik is dead."
Niklaus looked up confused. All the siblings did. Ravenna was the most responsible. She would have never let the two go out on the full moon but yet here she was lying to their father.
Mikael walked towards his daughter. A harsh slap echoed around the area and Ravenna held her face, "You foolish child." He walked off.
Ravenna let out a breath, touching the bracelet residing on her wrist, glancing at Henrik's body one last time before walking back into the woods.
The Mikaelson family put the youngest of them to rest later that night when the moon came over the house. Ravenna did not stand by her family but instead stayed at a distance from the edge of the woods.
She sat down not minding that the mud squelched as she sat. Instead, she took comfort in the nature of it. "To Odin, I pray for my youngest brother." She continued her prayer in Old Norse before getting up and advancing towards her home.
A FEW DAYS later Ravenna sat with her family at dinner. She had been quiet and distant since Henrik's death and the family was slightly worried about her. Besides Mikael who was still angry about the death of his youngest.
She sat quietly beside Finn, playing with her food, as her father raised his glass.
"To Henrik." The room became silent, "My youngest son. May he rest in peace." The family took gulps of their wine before Mikael stood. He left for a moment before he came back with his sword.
One by one he killed his children making sure Ravenna's death was extra painful.
ABOUT A CENTURY AFTER Esther was dead and the family was travelling around. They sat in a field. Ravenna was away from the rest of her family she was silently practising lowering and raising her mental shields. This was something she had started to do once she noticed that she could hear everything around her. She told no one of this and memories came flooding back to her.
Freya, being taken by Dahlia. Esther warping her mind to make her believe Freya died of the Plague. Esther, giving her a bracelet to suppress her witch side. Ravenna had taken off the bracelet as soon as she woke up in transition, disgusted by her parents.
Elijah, Niklaus, Kol and Rebekah watched her from a bit away. She was muttering things under her breath.
"She's going mad," Klaus muttered. He was worried for her. He was closest to her. They were the only ones that knew what it was like to be different. He remembered the night of the full moon after their changing. They had both been overwhelmed by the blood, more than their siblings. They both killed someone that night.
That's when they found out the truth. They were not Mikael's children. Esther had an infidelity with a werewolf in their village resulting in Ravenna and Niklaus. They both were cursed for eternity to have a part of themselves locked away.
Ravenna didn't mind as much as Klaus did. She still had her magic and tried to stay out of Mikael's way.
"She's not the only one. Finn told me yesterday that he no longer has the will to live," Kol replied.
"Something needs to be done. We're going to lose them. Our two oldest siblings," Klaus shook his head. He stood before he sped away to get something. He came back with two daggers. There were more but he didn't want his siblings to know that. He had retrieved them after he compelled a man to kill Alexander.
"Are those..." Rebekah trailed
"Yes."
"No Nik we can't," she protested.
"Look at her," Klaus motioned to their oldest sister, "Do you really want her driven to suicide?" Rebekah stayed quiet, "That's what I thought."
"Do it," Elijah agreed quietly. Just that moment Finn trudged up to them.
He said nothing as he watched the guilty faces of his younger siblings. His eyes narrowed as Klaus came towards him, "Finn. I love you. This is for your own good." Klaus stabbed him with the dagger and he grunted in pain.
Ravenna heard the commotion from her place and was horrified, "What are you doing?" She sped over to Finn.
"Don't touch it, sister," Klaus said.
"Are you mad? Putting a dagger in our brother," Ravenna stood angrily.
"No Ravenna I am not mad. But it seems you may be. You sit in the corner muttering to yourself all day," Klaus retorted.
"And what does that have to do with Finn. I want to be by myself. But I can't can I because I'm making sure you don't do stupid things like this."
"It has everything to do with Finn. He told Kol he had no reason to live anymore. But you didn't know that did you. You would if you actually paid attention," Klaus yelled.
Ravenna's eyes softened, "What?"
"I'm sorry sister. But I did it for both of you," Klaus sped toward her and stuck the dagger in her heart. Her eyes flashed gold before she dropped to the ground.
Ravenna was pulled out of her mind. She sat there rubbing the spot above her heart before she found herself once more in darkness. The dark dissipated and light erupted in front of her eyes like a majestic volcano.
Ayana sat cross-legged in a field. She walked towards her.
"Ayana. Why have you brought me here?"
"I know you are not the real Ravenna. You do not have to pretend. Ravenna died the moment that dagger pierced her heart."
"Oh," that was all she could say.
"Your family has been wronged. We have been looking for a replacement for her for centuries. We pushed the thoughts of Klaus waking you out of his mind until we found the perfect person. We believe you could bring that broken family back together. We found you. You have a strong emotional attachment to the family from your past life."
"I don't remember anything about it. Besides the show and what I now have to change."
"It's better if you don't. We have only one condition. Do not tell that family the real Ravenna died. They would be heartbroken and you wouldn't be able to do anything."
"I can't lie to them."
"Well, you'll have to." Ravenna was thrown out of the picture and back into her room. A knock came from the door and she stood quickly and opened it.
"Yes, Elijah?"
"Are you sure you're alright?"
"Positive," she smiled.
"All right. I love you. Good night," he kissed her cheek.
"Love you too. Night," she closed her door and sighed.
