Siblings (Florida)

Based on comment from

Tw: mentions of child abuse
(overall just bad parenting)

DC is talking to his sister, grinning and trying to assure her that his hair isn't that bad and he'll manage. He had something like that at one point, he and his siblings were never that close, but it still seemed like they cared.

But, his father only ever cared for reputation, god forbid his colony be a sodomite. He cared for his children, the ones he considered his children, made sure they ate properly, learnt to read and write. When it came to Florida, he only ever asked that he act well, never asked if he was alright, never taught him anything.

They aren't talking anymore, IDC had left while Florida was thinking and DC had probably gone to talk to one of their partners.

Their partners, who could read properly, who could have meaningful discussions with him, who didn't need everything explained to them, his partners, who deserved so much more than anything he had to offer.

It doesn't matter, they would leave eventually, realize he had nothing good to offer and go, just like his parents and siblings. He wouldn't be enough for them and if he had somehow managed to convince them he was, then they would realize fast he was too much to handle. It always happened eventually.

His father realized Florida being his colony was a waste of time and resources and moved on, his siblings realized he would never be as good as them and left, and his mother, who always told him she would stay, left.

He shouldn't feel angry at her for lying, why would she stay? He was a waste of time anyway.

He still wishes maybe, he could've kept the illusion a little longer, let her believe he could be better or that he could live up to her expectations. He couldn't, he couldn't even read.

He glances over at New York, talking to Connecticut about something, they're arguing. He's afraid for a moment, only a moment, because they aren't arguing the way he and his siblings used to. Connecticut looks like he's trying to fight a smile and New York was already smiling, they were arguing the way normal siblings did. They wouldn't hit each other, not the way his hit him. He was glad New York had a good relationship with his siblings, he didn't want New York to suffer. He can't help but wish he had that kind of relationship with his siblings, internally cursing himself for feeling jealous of his partner. He was supposed to feel happy for New York, not angry or jealous.

He looks back down, the sleeves on his hoodie were old and torn, loose strings visible, he'd have to replace it soon. He pulls one out, watching it come undone until it was long enough that he could pull it.

He'd be replaced too. It'd happened before, it was easy. Anything he could do, his siblings could do better. They could learn faster, do more, it never mattered how much he pushed himself, he'd always be replaceable, he just had to remember that.
