twenty six.

Staring at the constant flickering firefly in the jar that sat atop her desk, Zela contemplated on whether or not she should wake Cole up and properly thank him for the gift, or if she should just wait.

It was awfully late as well, and everyone had left to go back to the house they were renting for the summer, and Isaac plus Cole returned to the house once the others decided to leave.

It's not that Zela didn't enjoy their company, but she'd rather personally thank Cole for the thoughtful gift, rather than it being in front of people.

She saw it like she was wanting to have a private conversation with Cole, due to the fact that it seemed more heartfelt and genuine.

So, it obviously had Zela scrambling to find an outfit to put on as she was just in a tank top and her underwear, so she quickly threw on her running pants and a rather exposing shirt.

Once she had made it down to the floor of the barn, she looked at the door that led to the outside, and realized it was ajar. This alarmed her as Darynn made sure he proved it was shut, as he quite literally sent her a picture of the closed door.

"I figured you'd come to see me."

Hearing his voice, she turned around, noticing he was standing on the sidelines, somewhat hidden in the shadows.

"Cole? What're you hiding for?"

She questioned, as she walked over to him, and Cole slowly walked out and held up a jar for her, as his other hand was holding one as well.

"Jars?"

She asked, confused, and Cole grinned as he placed the jar in her hand, once she had placed her hand out.

"What are we—"

Before she could even finish her sentence, Cole grabbed her hand and ran out of the barn quickly, limping slightly as his leg was still infact not all the way healed.

"Cole!"

She slightly yelled, not loud enough to wake everybody inside the house up, and Cole quickly jumped the fence to where Custard was already at, and she realized he had Custard and Helia both out, and she looked at him in confusion once again.

"I figured we'd catch some fireflies and spend time with the animals we love the most."

Cole told her, as he walked beside Custard, and unscrewed the lid to his jar, as he was grinning at her, and Zela looked down to the jar in her hand and looked back up at him, as something had nudged her. Turning around, Helia stood there, as if she was encouraging her.

"Won't they die if they're trapped in the jar?"

She questioned, and Cole chuckled as he walked up to her shaking his head, and showed her the lid in his hand.

"I poked some holes in them, they're going to have air, and we're releasing them back whenever we're done."

He told her, and Zela looked down at her lid which she just now realized had holes poked into it, and she smiled softly before she started walked with Cole.

"Listen to me mister, no funny business with my girl, understand?"

Zela said, as she pointed at Custard, and Cole rolled his eyes chuckling before he grabbed her hand and led her into the field more, their horses slowly following in behind.

As the two walked together, the fireflies danced around them, and as Zela ran further ahead to start catching the fireflies, Cole watched her with pure raw love. Cole looked up to the stars above, and looked down to the stars on the ground, and to the sun that melted the ice around him as she was outlined by the moon.

As Zela was catching fireflies, Cole's only interest was watching her enjoying herself, and he could've sworn he heard her talking to them as if they could understand her.

He knew in that moment, that he'd have to do everything he could to keep his sun from dimming, so he planned on making sure it'd stay daylight all the time for him. He never wanted that icy barrier to come back, the only ice he'd ever have was the color of his eyes.

"Cole! Come on!"

Running towards her, he placed his jar down as he realized Zela had closed hers, and he swiftly picked her up as he ran, and twirled her as she giggled and held onto him.

Hearing all the commotion, Katherine woke up and looked around as she kept hearing distant voices, and quickly got out of her bed as she looked out of the window and saw Cole and Zela laughing and running after fireflies with jars in their hands.

On a normal occasion, Katherine would be mad at the fact that they were out past dark, alone together, and outside. But it's the fact that she could see their love for each other, that it caused her to just smile and get back into bed, just genuinely happy that Cole had finally found something that made him happy.

"Cole!"

Hearing his name, he looked over and saw that Zela was laying on the ground, pointing up to the sky, and Cole slowly laid down beside of her and looked up at the sky with her.

"Do you know the constellations?"

Zela asked, and Cole who did in fact know them, shook his head and Zela smiled brightly as she started pointing and naming them.

As the two laid there, looking up to the sky, Cole looked over at her, and Zela looked over at Cole and sheepishly smiled at him.

"What? What're you looking at me like that for?"

She asked, smiling and quietly laughing whilst Cole just shook his head and grinned.

"Just memorizing how beautiful you look with all these stars surrounding you, and the stars reflecting in your eyes."

He told her, and Zela's face reddened, and she raised up as she looked at him, and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Look, it's the sunrise."

She whispered, and the two looked to the sky, where the sun was peeking over the horizon, and the hues of the sky consisted of pinks and reds, causing Zela's face to have a gold hue to it.

"It's gorgeous."

Zela whispered, and Cole nodded his head in agreement, "It really is." He whispered back, as his eyes had never left Zela, as he was staring at how beautiful she was.

"Do you think that in another life time, we'd find each other?"

She asked him, as she turned to look at him, and Cole plucked some grass and started playing with it as he nodded his head.

"I'll find you where the stars touch the ground in every lifetime."
