eight.
To say Zela got zero sleep last night was an understatement, there was no way she was going to school to see Cole after what had happened. Not to mention she felt like she could fall asleep at any given moment.
So first thing that morning, she texted Katherine that she was feeling sick and wasn't going to be able to make it to school.
So with a feel well soon message in return, Zela quickly changed out of her white shorts and into a pair of her dad's old shorts.
Putting her hair up in a ponytail, she looked over at the tray of food that was still there, due to her losing her appetite.
Deciding to watch Netflix on her Macbook, she walked downstairs to get herself some food, and made her way back upstairs into her room and started watching H2O: Just Add Water.
As she had gotten into the second season, she had began working on Erin's design before she had heard her phone ring.
Looking around for it, she finally answered realizing it was Nathan calling from the ringtone.
"Hello?"
She asked hearing the dismissal bell, signifying that they were now on lunch.
"Hey, how are you feeling?"
Nathan asked, and Zela groaned plopping back onto her pillows, and rubbed her eyes.
"Awful."
She mumbled into the phone, and Nathan chuckled, as Zela looked up at the ceiling, the dim aquatic fish moving amongst it.
"Well, whatever you have must be contagious."
He told her, and Zela furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.
"Are you feeling sick?"
She questioned, and she heard some muffled talking from the other line.
"No, but Cole didn't come in today because he was sick."
Hearing that sentence made everything around her spin, and she shot up in bed telling Nathan a quick goodbye before she hung up.
Zela realized that they had both unintentionally tried to avoid the other, using the excuse of being sick. Now here they were, stuck under the same roof, alone.
Deciding not to even check, she unpaused her show, and nibbled on her lip nervously.
Hearing a knock on her door, Zela looked up at it in fear, and her entire body froze.
"Hey."
As the door opened, Katherine walked in with a small smile on her face.
"I left work early to look after you and Cole."
She said, as she motioned for her to follow, and Zela reluctantly followed after her.
"I have some hot chocolate ready for you downstairs, and I'm making some soup as well."
As they made it downstairs, Cole and Zela met eyes and in an instant, the two looked away from the other and Zela awkwardly sat beside him.
"Now, do you want tomato soup or potato soup?"
"Tomato."
"Potato."
Side eyeing the other, Katherine looked between the two in confusion.
"Potato."
"Tomato."
Groaning as they couldn't decide, Katherine nodded her head and pulled out to pots.
"I'll make both then."
—
While Katherine was in the midst of making her soup, Cole excused himself to go take a shower, and Zela had gotten her sketchbook and started drawing once again, letting her mind do all the drawing.
"Did you and Cole work things out, sweetheart?"
Katherine asked, as she walked over towards her, and glanced over her shoulder and looked at the sketches Zela had drawn.
"Those are quite provocative, aren't they?"
Katherine teased, and this caused Zela to finally look at what she had drawn and her face reddened. There were four different sketches, one of a pair of knee high socks with ribbons being pulled down by a pair of teeth, a sketch of bare thighs with darkish marks on them, a hand around a throat, and two lips meeting.
"Uh, I'm sorry."
Zela quickly apologized, as she looked up at Katherine who shook her head.
"No need to apologize, I'm an artist myself, and I know how it goes. You draw whatever you feel, and I'm guessing you have that on your mind. Do you want to talk about it? Are you having boy troubles?"
She asked, and before Zela could answer, Cole walked back in and glanced down at the sheet a knowing smirk growing on his face.
"No, no boy troubles. I had just been reading, and I guess I drew out what I had veeb visualizing in my head."
Zela quickly said, and Cole chuckled beside her as he pinched her exposed thigh once Katherine turned around to stir the soups.
Slapping his hand away, Zela turned the page to start a new drawing and was quickly interrupted when a bowl of tomato soup was placed in front of her.
"Eat up."
Katherine said, with a smile as she placed two bowls down in front of them, one with tomato soup and the other with potato soup.
"After this, I know you two aren't feeling all that well, but I'd like the place to be picked up a little. We have a rule that if you miss school, you still have to do chores."
Katherine told them, and Cole groaned aloud at his mother's words, and Zela looked around noticing how slightly wrecked the place was.
"I'm on call, so I may not be here the entire day, but when I get back, I better see some improvements in the cleaning."
As she said this, her phone started ringing, and she answered it before she motioned that she was leaving again.
"Clean."
She said right before she walked out of the door.
"Cole, what the hell was up with last night?"
Zela finally asked, dropping the ball and getting straight to the point.
Cole looked over at her confused, and shrugged his shoulders as he started cleaning up around them once he had finished his soup.
"What do you mean?"
He asked, confused, and Zela rolled her eyes as she cleaned her bowl out.
"Don't act dumb. You came into my room and kissed me."
Zela said, and Cole looked at her in shock as he laughed, and shook his head as he walked into the living room cleaning up Benny's toys that were on the floor.
"I don't know what the hell you're talking about."
He said, and Zela scoffed as she was fixing the pillows on the couch, and she turned around crossing her arms.
"Don't you dare lie."
Zela said, as she now realized how close they were to one another, and Cole gave her a look.
"I'm not lying, you're the one making up some story about us kissing. I think I'd remember if I kissed you."
He said, and Zela was about to slap him again, and her wrist was caught with his hand, and he pushed her back against the wall her wrist still in his grip.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you."
He whispered to her, and pulled away, as he walked away and upstairs. Hearing his door slam, Zela let out a deep breath as she looked around. Now she was the one confused, did she have a dream about it all?
"No."
She said, as she ran upstairs to look in the trash can where Cole was throwing her scraped paper out, and it was completely empty. Looking over towards her bed, there they sat, still on her bed.
