The Basketball Player

"Tell me!" I shout.

"No!" Melody whines.

"Why not?" I ask.

"It's embarrassing" She answers, hiding behind her hair.

"How?"

"Because it can't happen"

She grabs her backpack and walks into the busy hallways.

We got to school early to hang out in the choir room, but I just started throwing out names so I could find out who her crush was.

It didn't work.

We walk to math together in silence and don't talk to each other the whole class.

"Does Cass know who it is?" I ask, once we are out of the classroom.

"No, not yet at least" She answers.

"Does anybody-"

"No! Now leave me alone about it" She snaps.

Was I being pushy?

Yes.

Did I want to know who my competition was?

Absolutely.

She probably likes one of the quite kids.

So it's not like it'll be much competition...right?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our lunch table was full of laughter today.
Talking about the party and what happened.
Apparently, Zoe mason and Daniel toby hooked up.
Did I care?
Ha no!
I was looking over at Melodys table.
Mel was not paying attention.
In fact, she was looking out of the corner of her eye at something.
or should I say someone.
"I'll be back" I say quickly, and get up, crutching over to Melodys table.
"Hey ladies" I smile.
"Hi James!" Some of the girls giggle, causing Melody to snap out of it.
"Hey" She mumbles.
I look out of the corner of my eye to see that the theatre table was next to theres.
But looking back over at Melody and seeing her gaze going past that table made me worry.
Especially since her eyes landed on the basketball players.
And one in perticular.
Josh Peters.
Light brown hair, greyish blueish eyes, and the best basketball player at this school.
I hated him with everything in my body.
He's basically the Troy Bolton of our school.
Except as far as I know he cant sing.
And if he can....well game over for me.
Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy.
And he's fun to be around.
But he wasn't the nicest in Elementary school, I swear somethings off about him.
I run my fingures through my hair.
What the hell is Melody thinking?
He's one of the most popular guys in school, his family is probably the most well known in town, and his friends are...something else.
I know all of them, mostly because Tyler is on the basketball team.
I never expected for Melody to like some one like Josh Peters.
Well...i guess.
From what I've heard he's pretty quite unless he's around his friends, even then he's on the quiter side.
And he's only had a few girlfriends.
I guess Melody is like that.
She's quite unless she's with her friends, but from what I know, she's never had a boyfriend.
Melody looks down at the table then peaks up at me.
"Josh Peters?" I mouth.
She rolls her eyes and gets up, dragging me out into the hallway.
"You are such an asshole!" She whines.
"Josh Peters?" I laugh "No way-"
"I get it, it's pointless but...I can't help it" She shrugs "And I'm not sure if I would use the term like, my eyes just think he's fun to look at"
"So you're admitting he's attractive?" I ask.
Melodys face goes red and she hides her face in her hands "No"
"Yes you are" I chuckle.
My stomach was doing summersaults.
And my throat was closing up.
I hate this.
I need to put my feelings out there.
"Melody I-"
Then the lunch room door swung open and everyone piled out.
The bell rung...
"We can talk later" Melody says, walking away and catching up to Cassidy who had her backpack.
Well I just almost made a mistake.
I should be a supportive friend.
Not worry about my feelings.
This is going to be absolute hell, isn't it?
