Epilogue
15 years later
"Where are we going?" My daughter, Makayla asks.
"You'll see" I state.
"Dad seriously" She rolls her eyes.
"Don't give me that attitude" I say, driving past the sign.
"We are in you're hometown?" She asks.
"Yup" I say, popping the 'p'
I pull into the graveyard and park, grabbing the flowers from the back seat.
I get out and Makayla follows.
We walk over to a grave and I sigh.
"Melody...Haven't you told me about this girl?" Makayla asks.
"Yes I have, she was my best friend back in high school" I explain.
I lay the flowers down and hum a tune.
It's been years, I've graduated high school...and college, I have a wife and two amazing kids. Makayla going into middle school , and my son just starting 3rd grade. I've talked about Melody several times...always coming back on her anniversary and laying flowers down.
I live 2 hours away now, with Tyler a few blocks away.
We get together a lot.
I now work as a firefighter.
Tyler is a nurse.
We help people.
People who could change the world forever.
We've moved on but we will never forget her.
Because she changed not only us...but our town and school.
Kyle was right.
High school is a time for lessons.
Melody was a lesson.
For what?
Depends on who you're talking to.
But in my eyes she will always be....
Melody Jackson....the girl who changed Golden Bridge forever
