Ch. 5 | Full Gauntlet

Jake slowly opened his eyes as he regained his consciousness back after the fight with Vortex. He looked around and saw that he was in a room. But it wasn't him own room. It didn't look familiar to him at all.

'Huh? Where am I?' Jake asked, rubbing his head, but then wincing in pain. 'Is my head throbbing? Man, I must've taken a pretty hard hit earlier.'

Jake then thought back to the fight earlier with the dangerous wormhole villain.

'Oh yeah. . . I was fighting the villain, Vortex.' Jake thought to himself. 'I wonder if Matt is okay. Having his uncle attack so suddenly like this. . . it must be hard for him.'

---------

"Oh, look at this. . . we've got ourselves a young hero in the making? While your power is impressive, do you really think it's enough to stop me?"

---------

"Don't think I can be stopped that easily! I've been doing this for years! You're just a sad excuse of a noob hero!"

---------

"Look at you. You're weak. I thought you'd at least he somewhat formidable. But looks like I was wrong."

----------

Remembering those words, made Jake feel sick to his stomach. No one had ever said things like that to him before. He wasn't trying to be a hero, it just appeared as such.

"Oh, good. I was wondering when you'd wake up." A familiar friendly voice said, causing Jake to snap back to reality.

He looked over and saw Melissa holding a tray and smiling warmly at him. "You took quite the beating." Sue said. "So I figured I'd bring you back here to my dorm room and fix up some tea."

"Melissa?" Jake asked in confusion. "What's going on?"

"Take it easy, Jake." Melissa said, setting the tray down and pouring a cup of tea for him. "You need to recover from the fight earlier. I already told your roommate that you're safe."

"Oh, Matt. . . is he alright?" Jake asked.

"He's fine." Melissa said. "He came here to check on you and I told him everything that happened."

"And?" Jake said.

"He wasn't too happy." Melissa said. "He said something about his uncle being a horrible person and wished he wasn't related to such an awful villain."

"Yeah. . . I get it." Jake said. "It must be hard living normally when one of your family members is a villain."

"Anyway, I couldn't help but notice that you have an extraordinary quirk." Melissa said.

"Oh, it's not a quirk. . . or anything like that." Jake said. "If you're talking about my purple lightning, then it's just a power I was gifted with, since I was born into a family of super-powered beings."

"You just explained 'quirks' almost perfectly." Melissa said, raising an eyebrow.

"No, it's. . . more complicated than that." Jake said.

"Regardless, I think I have something that might help you better control it." Melissa said with a smile, before pulling out a small box. "Here, take a look."

Jake took the box and opened it to reveal two red strips of fabric inside.

"What's this?" Jake asked.

"I call it The Full Gauntlet." Melissa smiled. "It's designed to help heroes have their quirks strengthened, so they could fight better. As a quirkless person myself, I find it very important that others are stronger than they've ever been! Especially if they just had their quirks developed or they're still in hero school, working on becoming stronger that way."

"Wow. That's so cool." Jake said.

"Yep. I've already gave one to another friend of mine a while ago." Melissa said. "Since then, I've been mass producing them. Isn't that great?"

"That's really amazing, Melissa." Jake said, putting on the gauntlet. "You really have an eye for inventing, huh?"

"Well, it's nothing, really." Melissa blushed. "I've just always dreamed of becoming a scientist like my dad. And even though I don't have any unique abilities, I still want to help people in any way I can."

"I love that for you." Jake said with a smile.

The two of them blushed as they stared into each other's eyes.

'She's so thoughtful of others.' Jake thought to himself. 'Wanting to help others even though she's powerless. It's so beautiful.'

"Anyway. . . how does my Full Gauntlet feel?" Melissa asked.

"Oh, it's nice and comfortable." Jake said. "I could honestly use this. Thanks, Melissa."

Melissa blushed again and looked away. "I. . . I'm glad you like it." She said.

'What's going on with me?' Melissa thought to herself. 'I wasn't this flustered when Deku praised me for my work.'

"I should be heading home now." Jake said. "I need to let Matt know that I'm fine now."

"Oh. . . okay then." Melissa said, still blushing. "I'll see you tomorrow then."

"Tomorrow?" Jake asked.

"It's your first day of school tomorrow, silly." Melissa said. "You are attending the academy here, aren't you? Or will you be attending a hero school?"

"Oh, right. I totally forgot." Jake said. "Um. . . I'm not too sure."

"Well, do you want to be a hero?" Melissa asked.

"I. . . I haven't thought about that yet." Jake said. "But I know I've been curious about science stuff. So, perhaps I could attend the academy."

"That would be nice." Melissa said. "I go to I-Island Academy too. So we would be going to school together."

"Then, I'll give it a try." Jake said. "Is there a forum I have to sign, or. . .?"

"I can help you with that." Melissa said. "Don't you worry."

"Okay then." Jake smiled. "I'll see you tomorrow then."

"Bye." Melissa said, waving to Jake.

When Jake left, he sighed a breath of relief. "Well, time to get home." Jake said. "If I'm gonna go to school tomorrow, I need some sleep."

With that said, Jake ran back to his home, where Matt immediately showered him with questions about the villain attack. As well as cursing out his uncle, under his breath.

Yep. That was how things would be from now on. Avoiding villains, getting stronger with his power, and learning new science. It seemed like his fresh start was starting to be a mixed bag of feelings.

Meanwhile, at the airport, another plane had just landed and a young woman had came out with a serious look on her face.

She was wearing a grey hoodie with the hood up, a short blue sailor skirt, long dark blue socks, and brown shoes. When she took off her hood, it revealed ash blonde hair, tied up in two spiky side-buns and yellow eyes. Her name is Himiko Toga.

"A break from the league is just what I needed." She said as a twisted smile formed on her face. "Now let's see what kind of trouble I can cause here."
