Ch. 12 | Prototype
Jake made his way over to Melissa's dorm room to see what she had been up to. He was excited to also see how far the new gauntlets have come, since she has been working on them for some time.
When he got there, Melissa and Marianne were waiting for him there.
"Ah, Jake!" Melissa said with a smile. "You've made it."
"Hi, Jake!" Marianne said with a huge smile on her face. "I'm so glad you could meet up with us!"
"Hey, guys." Jake said. "Sorry if I'm a little late."
"That's okay." Melissa said with a smile. "We were just finishing up on the prototype."
"Oh, really?" Jake asked.
"They're so cool!" Marianne said. "You should totally try them out!"
"I can do that?" Jake asked.
"Well, they're not fully tested yet as it is just the first version of them." Melissa said. "But I guess we do need a tester to be able to make the proper tweaks."
"Yay!" Marianne said in an excited tone. "This will be so cool!"
Jake then went over and sat next to Melissa as she showed him the prototype gauntlets. They were big leather gloves with yellow trims and metal lining and fingertips to better let electricity flow.
"Wow, these are looking great so far." Jake said. "Is this gonna be the final design?"
"Well, seeing as how we went through many designs before, this was the best one of the bunch, so I'm going with it."
"They're gonna look so good on you, Jake!" Marianne said.
"Go ahead and try them on." Melissa said with a smile.
Jake smiled as he took the gauntlets and put them on his hands. When he did, Jake instantly felt the power flowing through them.
"Wow. . . these fit my hands very well." Jake said. "Like-"
"Like a glove, perhaps?" Marianne said with a smirk, before letting out a little giggle.
"Yeah, they're really nice in my hands." Jake said. "It almost feels like these were made for me."
"Well, there were, silly." Melissa said with a giggle. "You're the one with the power, after all."
"Right." Jake said.
"Let's try them out." Marianne said.
"Wait, we can't do it here." Melissa said. "Let's go outside."
The three of them then went outside to test the new prototype gauntlets to see how they work.
"Let's see how these puppies roll!" Marianne said.
"Alright, let's get on with it." Jake said as he held out his hands and tried to focus his powers. "I haven't really used my full power. So, hopefully this is still crazy good."
Jake then aimed his hand up in the sky as he prepared to fire a large lightning blast.
Jake took a deep breath as he felt his power going through his body and gathering up inside of the gauntlets.
'Focus my energy on the one hand. . . that's all I have to do.' Jake thought to himself. 'Here I go. . . explosive energy!'
Suddenly, Jake shot out a large blast of energy up in the sky as more lightning flowed through the gauntlet and throughout his body, causing him to become surrounded with dark purple electricity.
Melissa and Marianne looked up in awe at the sight of Jake's power. And it seemed like he could go on for a long time as he didn't look tired or fried up from the electricity coming from his body.
Jake then closed his fist as the lightning suddenly came to a stop and he was breathing heavily.
"That was so cool!" Marianne said, in an excited tone.
"You're quite powerful, Jake." Melissa said. "That's awesome."
"These gauntlets work like a charm." Jake said. "I felt no fatigue after that."
"That's great news, but I'd still be careful." Melissa said. "You don't want to overexert yourself."
"I know." Jake said, admiring the gauntlets on his hands. "But once these are finished. . . I'm gonna use them against Vortex. He's not gonna be able to escape me then."
The three of them then went back into Melissa's room and Jake took off the gauntlets and placed them down and placed them back on the table.
"I can't wait to finally show that villain who's boss." Jake said.
"Well, there's a still a lot to be done." Melissa said. "Hopefully we can make some more time to finish these gauntlets before Vortex decides to strike again."
"And who knows when that will be." Marianne said.
"Well, I'll be ready for him." Jake said. "And even if they're not done by the time he prepared his final attack, then I'll just have to hold him off until you can finish them."
'Jake is really persistent about stopping this villain.' Melissa thought to herself. 'I should get to work on making sure these are the best they can be. I'll stay up all night, if I have to.'
"I so can't wait for the battle!" Marianne said. "You're gonna go good!"
"I'm glad you girls believe in me." Jake said with a smile. "I won't let you down."
"You better not!" Marianne said with a smirk.
"Anyway, I'm gonna get going now." Jake said. "Thanks for letting me test out the prototypes."
"It was no problem, Jake." Melissa said with a smile. "I'm just glad you like them."
"Hopefully the teacher likes them as much as we do, too." Marianne said. "This'll be the best project he has ever seen!"
"One can only hope, huh?" Melissa said.
"Bye, girls." Jake said with a wave as he left the dorm room.
"Bye, Jake." Melissa and Marianne said at the same time.
With that said, Jake left the dorm and headed back to his apartment. He was happy that the gauntlets were coming together for him. And he knew that they would be a big help in defeating Vortex once and for all.
