After school that day, Jake went straight back home. He was in exhausted from the fight with Vortex earlier. And seeing him come to the academy and attack there, it was enough to make Jake more determined to stop him.

"Jake, you're okay!" Matt said, as Jake cake through the door. "Sorry I wasn't at school today."

"It's no big deal." Jake said. "Your, um, . . . uncle attacked the academy."

"What?!" Matt said in shock. "That bastard. . . are you alright?"

"Yeah, I fought him off for now." Jake said. "But he's definitely not gonna quit."

"So, what are you gonna do?" Matt asked.

"I think. . . I'm gonna have to fight him to the finish." Jake said, seriously.

"You're. . . you're gonna go up against him?" Matt said in shock. "All by yourself?"

"He needs to be taken down." Jake said seriously. "And since he seems to hate me the most, I feel like I have to step up my game and fight him off for good."

"Is that a good idea?" Matt asked.

"Well, who else is gonna stop him?" Jake asked.

"There's other heroes." Matt said. "I don't want you to risk your life for some. . . wannabe villain like my uncle."

"You really hate him, don't you?" Jake asked.

"With every fiber of my being!" Matt said, seriously.

"Trust me. . . I'll put an end to him." Jake said. "No matter what."

"Your determination is kind of concerning." Matt said.

"Well, I've fought off stronger villains before." Jake said. "I'm not gonna get defeated by an amateur like Vortex."

"Oh, you've got it wrong."
Matt said, seriously. "My uncle ain't no amateur."

"Well, I managed to scare him off twice already." Jake said. "A real villain wouldn't have held back like that."

"Well. . . maybe he was going easy on you and testing your power." Matt said. "And soon, he'll give it all he's got!"

"Oh, I'm betting on it." Jake said. "That's why I need to really step up my game."

As he said that, music began to play and Jake began to sing as he went outside and began to train with his powers.

When the song was over, Jake smirked at his powers as he seemed to be getting the hang of it again.

"Yeah, that's the stuff." Jake said. "I'm coming for you, Vortex! Be ready!"

At that moment, his phone went off as he took it out and saw he got a text from Melissa.

Melissa: Hey, Jake! I've been thinking on our prototype for the lightning gauntlets for a bit and I think I may have an idea. Please come down to my room when you've got the chance. I'd love to show you what I've come up with. Marianne is here right now as well, and she says 'hi'.

"Ooh, this'll be good." Jake said with a smile. "If these turn out the way we hoped, then I'll be able to fight off Vortex super easy!"

Without another word, Jake rushed over to meet up with Melissa as her place to keep working on the lightning gauntlets.

Form inside of the apartment, Matt was watching him from the window. And he has a scowl on his face.

"You're not gonna beat Vortex that easy." Matt said, while shaking his head. "I'm sure, as we sit here, he's getting stronger, too. You will barely stand a chance at all when it comes to it."
