"Ugh" Yao grimaced: shielding his eyes as he opened the door of the cabin, with a basket he held between his arm.
He walked over to the clothes line, clutching the basket tighter as a gust of wind pushed him back. Yao watched the leaves around him fly pass him as he was walking. He hated it- the breeze that sent a chill throughout his body and the sun shining right in his face. He set the basket down as he reached the clothes line, starting to picked up the wet clothes from the inside of the basket and pinned them into place.
"How are you doing?" He asked, while looking to the side but still hanging the clothes up.
Yao's attention was now directed at his daughter, who was watering the various flowers that were surrounding the cabin. It seemed more like the flowers were tending to her however; as her boots were soaked with mud and there were clumps of dirt in her pink hair.
"Good papa!" Kalea smiled, leaning over with the watering can to water a tulip, "I just finished this side so I'll be watering the ones in the back!"
Yao nodded and watching as she ran to the backside of the house, disappearing for his sight. When she was gone, he chuckled to himself- expecting as much for her.
Yao's smile dropped as he looked back at the clothing line and hung up the last pair of clothing. As he picked up the empty basket, sighing of relief; he was finally able to go back inside and do the chores in the house. He turned around and took a few steps forward to the cabin, but stopping to a halt when his ears twitched.
The wind stopped for a moment as if it knew exactly what he was thinking, he listened closely. A rustle. It was too loud for an animal. That was an unnatural noise. He whipped his head around to the forest behind him; his eyes frantically darting from tree to tree as he looked for the source of the sound. His brows furrowed and he clutched the pendant on his heck. Another rustle. Yao looked over to his left, and crackles of lightening began to form in between his fingers.
"Eek!" A sound came from the bushes as soon as Yao sent out a bolt of lightening from his hands. Less than a second later a figures came out of the trees in an avalanche of leaves.
The figure was on the ground, picking the leaves out of his hair as Yao walked towards him, "I- I, um- um... ahhh." He stammered out.
"Oh, it's you." Yao was right in front of him with his arms crossed, "You're Crystal's kid right?
He nodded and stood up, "Mister Yao... I-"
"I'mmmm donnneee!"
Kalea poked her head from the side of the house. "Leoko." She grimaced as she saw the two.
Leoko awkwardly waved at her, and she responded by sticking her tongue out at him. Leoko shrunk down slightly and quickly looked away from her.
"Why are you here?" Yao asked.
"Oh! Well... ever since I've gotten my ice powers... see I have a white streak in my hair... I've been training for awhile with miss Crystal... or I mean mom... miss mom? Since she has ice powers as well... or wait... you probably already know it- "
"Just split it out." Yao quickly retorted.
"Right! Sorry! You see my wrist has been really hurting lately, so I wanted to see if princess Scenery could heal it for me. Please?" Leoko said, his voice fading out at the end, with him looking down and fiddling with his hands.
"She's not here right now. She's sick, so Lucinda and Elvira are taking care of her."
"Oh- ah... okay... I'll go then. Sorry to disturb you."
"Wait- Leoko... Kalea might be able to heal you." Leoko turned back around as Yao stopped him.
"What?!" Her eyes widened as she shouted. "But-" Yao looked at her with a stern expression and she just as quickly closed her mouth. Kalea sighed, "Alright, I'll do as much as I can. But I don't know if it'll work."
Yao put his hands on their backs and pushed them towards the cabin, closing the door behind him as they went into it. Yao looked at Leoko pointing to a chair, he nervously smiled at Yao and sat on it with his head held down and hands folded together. Kalea went over to him and took a deep breath while rubbing her hands together.
"Where is it?" Kalea asked.
He clutched his wrist, she put her hands on his leather bracer. She took a deep breath; her brows furrowed and face tightened as she concentrated on healing Leoko. A light slimmer came out from her hands, his eyes widening as he looked from Kalea and his hand.
She took her hands away, "Did it work?"
He moved his waist around, he winced and shook his head. Kalea puffed up her cheeks, "Maybe it's because of that cloth. Take it off."
"A-alright." He took off the bracer.
Kalea's brows furrowed and she tilted her head to the side, "What- what is this?!"
Yao, who had been swiping the floor, looked over at them with a confused look. Kalea shifted her eyes from her father and Leoko with an equally confused look. He went over to the two of them; kneeling down to look at Leoko.
"Oh- I've seen this." Yao said.
"You have?" Kalea looked at him.
He nodded, "It's the same as Elvira..."
On his wrist, was a small purplish mark that looked like a lightening bolt. Leoko nervously looked down at it and blushed out of embarrassment, "Is it bad?"
"Kalea." Yao said and put his hand on her head, "Go do something else. I want to talk to Leoko privately." He said.
Kalea huffed and puffed up her cheeks, "Alright." Yao watched her as she walked off and went into her room.
Leoko frowned and put his bracer back on, looking back down when Yao turned back around at him, "Are you suppressing your dark magic?" Yao asked him sternly.
Leoko didn't answer. Yao sighed, "That's the reason why your wrist is hurting. Scenery told me that Elvira went through the same thing."
"You don't understand..." He whispered, "My dark side hurts people." He looked at hands and curled his fingers inward, "I thought my curse was gone when miss Lucinda got rid of it... but it's always been with me..."
"Look at me." Yao said. Leoko nervously looked up at him.
"Before I even knew Scenery, I had memories of our past lives together. But the only memories I had were the ones of her dying... of me failing to be able to protect her. I saw it as a curse. I focused so much on the bad memories that I was unconsciously suppressing the good memories I had with her." Yao explained.
"Mist-"
"What I'm trying to say is— if you only focus on the bad sides of your curse it will only ever be something entirely bad. It will feel like that is the only thing that you are. I do understand Leoko... because I felt the same way, and I'm saying this now because I don't want you to be like me."
Leoko stayed completely silent. Yao stood up and turned around, "You should go."
"Mister Yao..." Leoko said softly.
"Yes?" Yao repiled with his back still turned to him.
"Thank you."
