Exercise 1b: Character Interviews

MelodyHall (MH): For the first time ever on WattRad, we are introducing a new segment where we will be interviewing favorite celebs and some rising stars. Here with me today are Mel and Ludo from Writing Boot Camp! Please give a warm welcome to these two lovely folks!

*Raving applause and cheers*

Mel: It's a pleasure to meet you, Mel!

MH: We do share the same name! What a coincidence! On a side note, I'm totally digging your outfits! All decked up to the nines in your Hogwarts House's attire! So chic!

Mel: Awe, thanks. Ravenclaw is the best house, and I hear you are a Ravenclaw, too!

MH: Aye, that's right!

Ludo: We've grown to agree to disagree on that whole "best" house. By the way, where's your Ravenclaw getup?!

MH: Sadly, I forgot it, but my earrings are blue!

Ludo: I guess that works!

MH: It's lovely to have you both here on today's radio show!

Both: Thanks for having us!

MH: Tell us what you two look like since all of our viewers can't see you.

Ludo: Well, let's just put it like I'm a younger Harrison Ford look-alike from his role as Indiana Jones, but I'm not nearly as adventurous or courageous for what he does.

Mel: But, we've even had some people mistake him for the real Jones when we were in Disney! Once, he even signed an autograph! Anyway, I don't think I look like anyone famous––

Ludo: Nonsense, she's Stephanie Leigh Schlund, who plays Cashmere from Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Mel: Lu, no one knows what she looks like. Anyway, I don't look like her!

Ludo: Sunshine, yeah, you do. Not exactly, but really close!

Mel:  Whatever. I'm just a bit shorter and a few years her junior.

MH: On age, you are both in your mid-twenties. Can you give us a snippet about your background? What's your family like, how's your relationship with each other? Mel, why don't we start with you this time?

Mel: Um, truthfully, my relationship with my mother isn't the best. I feel like she wants to be very...involved in my life even though I've since moved out. I dunno. I love her, don't get me wrong, it's just...complicated. Anyway, I have a really small family: it's just myself, mom, and my uncle. I wish I had had siblings growing up, though!

Ludo: My whole family is Hufflepuff, funny right! It's just like Harry's family, but they were Gryffindors. Anyway, even though we emulate all the Hufflepuff attributes, life didn't always go sunshine and confetti, 'ya know? My parents are huge on charities and volunteerism, but sometimes that left me and my brothers, Elijah and Jimmy, alone a lot as kids. But, we're all pretty tight now, so that's all that matters.

MH: You both are quite witty and down to earth, what other traits do you have that we don't know about?

Ludo: I guess I'll go first this round? I'm pretty extrovert, but Mel isn't.

Mel: I think it actually depends on the crowd. I've been told I'm an ambivert. Like, when I'm chatting with my online friends I definitely am way more extrovert there! But otherwise, yeah, I'm definitely introverted.

Ludo: I'm more introverted when thrust into a room full of people I don't know. Aside from that, I am a dreamer. I'm always wanting to go places, and if it weren't for Mel to ground me a bit, I would be broke!

Mel: Yeah, it seems like we're kinda Ying and Yang, but we are pretty similar too. We both curse like no one's beeswax, Harry Potter is life, and we both dream. But I channel my dreams into writing and digital art since I'm more of a homebody.

MH: As you said earlier, you're a Ravenclaw, so I guess that means you're smart? What do you both study in college right now?

Mel: I guess I'm smart? But I suck ah-butt in all things math related! Oh my gosh, I can't even begin to tell you how much it agonizes me! I am studying Physical Education and Health and am in my sophomore year. I plan to obtain a post-grad degree as well!

Ludo: I'm an entrepreneur of sorts. I started my own graphics and products company with Elijah that's doing pretty well, but I only have my associates as of now.

MH: Wow that's amazing! I've never met an entrepreneur before! And, Mel, you said you like digital art, too? You two are very creative, which is a perfect segway into my next question! What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses? These can be related to personality traits or talents.

Ludo: For me, both of us, we aren't very assertive people, so sometimes we butt heads because of misunderstandings.

Mel: Yeah, but we don't argue much either. I think my biggest weakness is that I hold in all my stress and things that aren't..."sunshiney." And it kinda just builds up inside me until I'll break down or whatever.

Ludo: Leading me to my greatest attribute in our relationship: I'm a good listener and shoulder to lean on. Likewise for Mel. I think that's a big part of why we really work well together.

Mel: Yeah, and to compensate for his good shoulder, I'm a fairly good cook.

Ludo: Fairly?!

Mel: I can whip up a few things really good, but nothing chef fancy.

Ludo: She makes a mean lasagna!

MH: We're getting down on our time together, so give me a childhood memory from each of you! Mel, do you want to go first?

Mel: Uh, why not? Let's see, uh, besides the fact that I have a terrible memory. Erm... Oh, okay, I got one. When I was...eighteen?

Ludo: Don't look at me, sista. You've got the spotlight.

Mel: However old I was, I traveled to Hungary with my mother and three others. We stayed in Budapest, two blocks away from the Danube River by the Széchenyi Chain Bridge. My favorite place was the Széchenyi Medicinal Bath, though. It was amazing! And, I'm not even a spa person; I don't pamper myself. Period. The baths were incredible, and I highly recommend you go there if you ever vacation in Hungary. Besides having a number of scented saunas –– I think I almost died... as in I went into a coughing fit while the room was dead silent. People glared and my eyes were already watering from the herbs. But, if you can handle it, go for it! Anyway, there are hot and cold baths there, even an aquatics class for women only! Just a warning I wish someone had mentioned before I went lounging in the regular pool area: There were some dudes marching around, ahem, nude! Err, don't get me wrong, I highly respect how...secure they are but definitely watch out!

Ludo: My dad's family from Romania, so we took vacations over there in the summers. I remember frequently visiting the birthplace of Vlad III –– or Count Dracula, coined by Irish author Bram Stoker. I promise you, the real ruler is much more...disturbing than the fictitious vampire! Fun fact: Vlad III was born in Sighișoara, Romania. When El and I got older, this is before Jim was born, our parents took us hiking the Carpathians mountains, of which I always hit the top of the mountain first! On one of the last days visiting my dad's parents, we always went to Salina Turda, a salt mine. It's quite incredible!

MH: Well, Mel and Ludo, I thoroughly enjoyed today's opportunity to interview you and find more about your very rich and diverse lives. I think our audience thoroughly enjoyed today's interview and we would like to thank you for being a part of the show!

Mel: Thanks for having us on WattRad today! It was so much fun and not as nerve-wracking as I thought it'd be. Happy Ludo, I said it.

Ludo: We had a little bet. I won, so now I get to choose where we'll be having our very belated Valentine's Day formal dinner.

Mel: Which basically means I have to dress up. That's my punishment for losing.

MH: Feels! Have a lovely dinner you two, and thanks again for joining me today. Audience, thank you for your enthusiasm, and to see their interview if you missed it, check on our main site, Wattpad! I'm Melody Hall, have a good night, folks!
