Halfway
February 1st.
20 weeks pregnant.
Jimmy woke up before Elsa.
He rubbed his eyes and turned to her side of the bed. The first thing he saw was a mountain of baby.
He chuckled quietly and gently kissed her belly, and then her cheek.
He then snuck out of the bed and went to get ready for the day.
Jimmy wanted to let Elsa sleep as much as possible.
She's been so exhausted lately, and when she is up, she's in so much pain.
This pregnancy has really taken a toll on her body.
Half an hour later, Jimmy was showered and dressed, and Elsa was only just waking up.
"Good morning, mommy!" He smiles.
"Good morning. Will you help me, Liebchen?" Elsa says as she struggles to sit up.
"Of course!" Jimmy grabs her under the arms and sits her up.
"How do my babies feel this morning?" Jimmy smiles and places his hand on the top of her belly.
With a look of misery on her face, Elsa says, "Compressed."
"Aw.." Jimmy pouts. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I think I'm the one with the rough end of the deal. She's moving around like it's play time in there!"
"She?" Jimmy smiles.
Elsa smiles and nods her head.
"Yeah! I have this strong feeling it's a girl."
"That would be so cute to have a little Elsa running around!"
"Right? Curly hair, rosy cheeks! Bossing everyone around like mama!" Elsa giggles.
"That's so cute!" Jimmy chuckles.
"I know.." Elsa softly smiles down to her belly as she gently rubs it.
Jimmy smiles and kisses the top of her head.
Elsa looks up and asks, "Will you help me, please?" She motions to her legs.
"Of course!" Jimmy smiles and kisses her cheek.
Elsa couldn't reach over without taking a tumble, plus her growing belly made it hard for her to even attempt. Jimmy has been really great with helping her whenever she needs it.
"Ready to stand?" Jimmy asks, taking her hands in his.
Elsa takes a deep breath and nods her head.
"Okay, one.. two.. three!"
"Aua!" Elsa takes a sharp breath in.
"You okay?" Jimmy asks not taking his hands off of her.
"Yeah.. it just hurts. Jimmy, I don't know how much longer I can do this."
"What do you mean?"
"It's so hard for me to get around. It's painful! My legs.. they hurt so badly." Elsa says as she begins to cry softly. "I'm only halfway there, how will I make it another twenty weeks? My legs weren't built for this much weight."
"I'll find you a wheelchair! That way you don't have to worry about it." Jimmy gives her a reassuring smile.
"When will you bring it? About the time you buy us a home?"
"Elsa, things have been busy, you know that!
We can go look at houses today if you want."
"Whatever, it doesn't matter! We have a doctors appointment today at three."
"Yes, I remember. Els?"
"What?"
"Can you smile for me, please?"
Elsa just stares at him.
"Smile!" He chuckles.
Elsa gives him the smallest smile before taking it right back.
"Aw my girl!" Jimmy rubs her belly and kisses her cheek.
"Everything will be okay!"
**
Later that day.
"Elsa Mars. The doctor will see you now."
Elsa sighs and looks at Jimmy.
"I'm here!" He quickly stands and holds out his hands for her.
"Ready? One, two, and three!"
"Agh!" Elsa groans.
Jimmy then takes her arm and they proceed to the back.
Once getting to the back, she is asked to step up on the scale.
"Ok wow.. I've never seen these numbers before!"
"Go ahead and step off, Ms. Mars. Take a seat right in here, and your doctor will be with you soon."
"Thank you.."
Elsa laid back on the examination table and softly rubbed her bump.
"I'm pretty sure he has my due date wrong."
"Maybe."
"I mean, I'm a skinny woman! I shouldn't be this big yet! The mama in me is telling me I am right!"
"A mother always knows best!"
"Yeah, well.. not your mother!"
"Heh! Well in this case, No. She doesn't know best.
But if you say you think you're further along, I believe you."
Just then Elsa's doctor walks in.
"Good afternoon."
"Good afternoon." Elsa sits up slightly.
"Wow! How far along?" Her doctor gives her a strange look.
"Twenty weeks. Well that's what you said but-"
"You look full term!"
"Gee, Thanks.." Elsa says sarcastically.
"Lift your shirt please."
Elsa does what she is told and lifts her shirt.
Her doctor then feels around her stomach and says, "Your chart says you've gained about thirty pounds this pregnancy."
"Yeah.."
"I'm still saying mid June only because of your last period. I do need you to start watching what you eat. I'm not saying try to loose weight, but don't over eat. You don't have to eat for two. Unless you want to give birth to a twelve pound baby."
"Well no but.."
Jimmy looked at Elsa and felt so bad for her.
She had a little pout on her face, and sadness in her eyes.
Jimmy then grabbed Elsa's hand, and she began crying.
"Baby, what's wrong?" Jimmy gets down to her level.
"He said I'm fat!"
"You're not fat, Pooh! The baby is just a chunker!" He smiles.
"Because of me! I'm gonna give my baby problems right from the start!"
"No honey, that's not true."
Elsa sniffles and wipes her cheeks.
"I didn't mean to! I didn't think I ate that much!"
"Sweetie, you didn't do anything wrong! I promise you. You're such an amazing mommy already." Jimmy smiles and softly caresses her cheek.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, baby!"
...
"Shall we continue?"
"Yes Doctor. Go ahead." Jimmy smiles softly.
"Ms. Mars, when you deliver we will-"
"Wait! I-I'm still not sure if I'm having the baby at the hospital or not."
"You're not sure? What other option is there?"
"I thought maybe.. well.. I'd like to have the baby at home."
"At home? As in.. where the freaks are?"
"You're talking about my husband and my family!" Elsa says getting defensive.
"I'm sorry ma'am but, a circus tent is nowhere to birth a baby."
"Well I'm just-"
"What if he or she has a deformity?"
"So what if she does?"
"What if the baby needs urgent medical care?
"Well.."
"You both can talk it over. Although, I think it would be a bit crazy to decide on anything else but a hospital."
"Elsa and I will let you know at our next visit. I think we should go now, come on honey. Let my help you up."
"I would even suggest staying in the hospital a couple months before the baby is born."
"Why?" Elsa asks, sitting up on the bed.
"Well a person in your condition shouldn't be pregnant in the first place, but now that you are, you must make smart decisions. If you stumble over, you could very easily fall on your stomach and crush your baby."
"Could you maybe speak a little more carrying?" Jimmy asks.
"I'm only being honest."
"First you talk about her weight, then you criticize what she wants to do for her Own birth. We've heard enough! Come on, sweetie. Let's go."
Elsa grabs onto Jimmy to help stand, she then pulls her blouse down and grabs her handbag.
After getting into the car Jimmy sighs and reaches over to Elsa.
"Are you okay, honey?" He asks.
"Yeah.. I guess so."
"Why don't I take you out to a nice dinner?"
"No.. I shouldn't."
"Elsa, come on! Don't listen to him! You're perfectly fine, Pooh Bear! Every pregnancy is different. Meaning every pregnant belly is different! You're just carrying differently, that's okay!"
"Maybe.. still.. I'd rather just go home. I'll eat whatever they're making tonight."
"Okay.
Hey Els?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you." Jimmy smiles.
"I love you too, Jimmy."
"Els?"
"What?" She giggles.
"You called me your husband."
"No I didn't."
"Yes you did!"
"Oh.. I didn't notice." Elsa says with a beautiful soft smile.
Jimmy chuckles and leans over to kiss her lips.

That evening everyone gathered around for dinner.
Ethel made a delicious meal for everyone.
"Mm! This is so good, Ethel!" Elsa says.
"Baby likes it?" Jimmy smiles at her and places his hand on her belly.
"Very much!"
"I can feel that!" He chuckles.
"So what did the doctor say?" Eve asks.
"You mean besides telling me I'm a horrible mother for wanting to give birth here? Or telling me I'm fat?"
"What?!" Everyone says in unison.
"We're gonna find a new doctor. One that is kinder to.. our kind." Jimmy says.
"I see. Elsa, you're not fat! And I think it's great you're wanting to have the baby here!" Desiree smiles.
"Thank you.. I am pretty big. I've gained more weight than I should have at this point but.." Elsa shrugs and fakes a smile. "My gut is still telling me I'm further along than he's telling me." She says gently rubbing her thumb back and forth over her bump.
"That could be possible!"
"You know what I think it is?" Dell asks.
"What dad? A big strong boy?" Jimmy says.
"Yes it's a big strong boy!"
Elsa laughs.
"Els is pretty convinced it's a girl so.." Jimmy makes a funny face.
"She's probably right! I mean she spends the most time with the baby." He chuckles.
"Hey, I'll still love a princess!"
"Aw!" Elsa smiles.
"But it's a boy!"
"Alright, dad!" Jimmy laughs.
"Have you ever thought it might be twins?" Ethel asks with a straight face.
Both Jimmy and Elsa's eyes widen and their jaws drops. They then slowly turn to face each other.
"Twins?" They say in unison. "Twins?" The two turn back to Ethel.
"You mean.. two babies?" Elsa asks.
"Well, yeah!"
"TWINS! That would be so fun!" Bette shouts with excitement.
"We.. we didn't think about that. I just thought I was big.. or my doctor was an idiot. I didn't think Twins." Elsa says.
"I know a good doctor. I'll have him come out here tomorrow and examine you."
"Aw." Elsa gets teary eyed.
"Really? You'd do that for us?"
"Why not?"
"Thank you, Elsa! That really means a lot to me." Elsa touches her chest.
She then stands up and walks over to give her a hug.
"Aw! Ethel's being nice! Someone call the news crew!" Desiree says.
"Shut up!" Ethel gives her a look.
"How will he know if it's twins?" Jimmy asks.
"I'm sure he can tell just by feeling around. He's very good, and very respectful."
"Oh that's great! Ethel, we really appreciate this!"
"It's not a problem.." Ethel nods her head and looks down.
