Welcome Wi-lights

"When are they done? They've been in there for a while." Rock wondered. 14 days and 7 hours and it was finally here. The new robots, the Wi-lights and the first to be under that name, were to be activated. Roll was watching her favorite show to block out the noise of the lab and her own thoughts. The two doctors chatter was heard through the lab doors, the sounds of machines booting up. The new robot masters were booting up. Roll was growing worried, the two robot siblings hugging each other.

"It's okay Roll, it's going to be okay."

Suddenly Dr. Light came through the door, watching them with a small smile. "Rock, Roll, do you want to see them?"

Roll shook her head, gripping Rock's shoulder tightly. He thought for several seconds before shuffling out of his sister's grip. His father patted his shoulder lightly, and he exhaled slowly as he peeked and walked through the lab. The moment he closed the door, all the activated robot masters' eyes were on him.

"Rock, this is Needleman and Magnetman." The two Wi-light robots in the corner approached him with blank eyes. Magnetman was a bright color of red and looked relatively simple, with his distinctive feature being the large magnet attached to his head. Needleman, on the other hand, was a darker shade of blue with large spikes sticking out the top of his head, making him intimidating despite the short stature compared to his comrade.

"Hi." Rock brought the courage to speak. As if that was the trigger, Magnetman grabbed his hands and squeezed them tightly, he squeaked in surprise.

"I am so sorry, I didn't mean to stare for so long. I didn't expect to see a young robot around here." Magnet spoke softly. He was trembling slightly, and he gripped Rock's shoulders next unaware he was pushing him to the ground.

"Magnet, we were just born." Needleman scoffed.

"Created and activated Needle, there's a clear difference. Anyway, pleasure to see you. What's your name?"

"Rock. You're really wobbly."

"It appears I am. Perhaps my intended functionality has something to do with my lack of hand-eye coordination, it could explain my tendency to bump into walls and tables for the first few minutes I have been online."

"Look at that Wily, he's already growing an extensive vocabulary." Doctor Light said with a smile, and for a moment, Rock smiled too.

Then Roll screamed, and the thought went away as he rushed to her. He didn't realize Magnet fell to the floor as his sister shook in pure fear.

"Roll, what's wrong?!" She grabbed her broom and pointed to the ceiling. Red eyes stared back, and a clawed white hand grabbed the broom and pulled back. Both of them were in fear of the robot holding the broom with curiosity.

"Thomas, DWLN-022 is on the ceiling!" Wily shouted.

"Oh my goodness. Snakeman, give Roll back the broom and come down. I wasn't done with you." A few seconds before Snakeman obeyed and dropped down. He was taller compared to Magnetman, who only reached to the neck. His head was resembling a snake helmet, with a tail going down to his hips. After giving Roll the broom, he grabbed several books from the bookshelf and retreated, much to everyone's dismay. "A-Anyways, the rest of the robot masters will be activated soon. We're just finishing the last one today."

As they went through the last the downloading, Rock and Roll looked at the robot. He was bright shade of orange, with his head resembling...a top? A children's toy? And attached to his feet had what appeared to be rollers.

Before they could even question the purpose of such a design, the computer started glitching, and the wires attached to his chest were sparking. Rock realized what was going on and tended to the robot, Wily typing away on the computer. "What is going on?"

"A small glitch, that's all. Nothing Dr. Wily can't fix!"

The little robot rolled his eyes, annoyed by the mad doctor's condescending tone. Another spark, and the robot jolted up and headbutted him. Recoiling from the pain he could see the robot's eyes, a beautiful shade of purple. It fell back on the floor just as fast as it jolted up.

Dr. Light checked its components for functionality, but everything was working. The core was beating, although very slowly, and all wires were blinking. The other Wi-lights were watching the scene unfold, and Roll had conflicting on whether leave the room or run up to the robot and plead for him to wake up. All while Dr. Wily leaned against the computer counter.

"I don't understand, did the glitch fry his circuits?" Dr. Light bit back his tongue. His children had a horrified expression on the word "fry". They thought they had just witnessed the death of a robot before it even woke up to a filthy computer glitch.

Snakeman pushed the doctor aside and kneeled to down to the robot. He gave a steady gaze at its closed eyes, squeezed the neck, then pressed his head against the chest. His eyes widened, and his clawed hands tapped in rhythm near the core. The process was repeated, pressing against the chest and tapping in rhythm. Needleman made a gesture that mimicked 'he's nuts', and Magnet nudged him.

At one point Wily tried pulling Snakeman away, only for him to nearly lose a finger. The room was quiet afterward, except for the repetitive tapping.

Finally, like a miracle, there was jerking in the legs and arms. The robot's eyes opened again and the two stared at each other. Dr. Light sighed in relief as they rose up. "Okay Topman, you gave us quite a scare. How do you feel?"

"I can hear beeping. From here." The robot Topman, pointed at his core. Dr. Light hummed before helping him back on the table. Snakeman never stopped looking at him.

"Perhaps the glitch just did something to your core. We'll have to check it out later. Rock, Roll, why don't you show everyone their rooms around the house? Snakeman and Topman are going to stay with us until we figure out the issue."

Taking their leave, Rock was pushed away by all of the robots and the door closed. The living room was packed by most of the Wi-lights, and Roll was huddled in the corner of the couch.

"So what is your function?" Magnetman asked to the rest of the Wi-lights. Needleman was the first to speak.

"I'm programmed to handle large rocks, and to destroy them in mining operations. Though if I'm being honest, I'm more of a quiet person myself." He squatted down to the couch, Rock curiously listened into the conversation.

"Yeah, I know what you mean. If I couldn't walk straight in a open lab, how am I going to be able to manage and process scrap metal?" Magnet sighed.

"You could try flying." A shiny robot, Geminiman, said out loud.

"I would if I could somehow manipulate the Earth's magnetic field, but that wouldn't be good for anyone. I'll just stick to bumping into walls."

Rock chuckled by the joke, easing the tension just a bit. Roll eventually settled into a more comfortable position. "So what's yours Geminiman, telling the constellations?"

"Hah, I'm working with Needle on mining operations. My laser can get it done quickly too." The shiny robot had a smirk full of pride.

"Fool!" Needle pointed dramatically, "Your laser is not as fast or powerful as my needles!"

"But can it bounce off walls?" The sound of his weapon charging up alerted everyone and ducked for cover. Gemini laughed out loud, waving his hands before saying a false alarm. The conversation resumed, ignoring the small but not very funny prank.

"Hardman is built for ground leveling, and I'm...what was I made for again?" The other orange bot with large pylon hands said cheerfully. The hands replaced with large electrical chargers vaguely reminded Rock of Crashman, and his expression darkened.

"You were built to make electricity." The large, semi-round robot Hardman said slowly.

"Oh yeah!"

"Please forgive him, he's a little forgetful. You oughta check that computer soon."

"Noted." Rock nodded. "Well, let's get you introduced to your rooms. Then we can help with your glitches."

As each Wi-light was growing accustomed to their rooms, Rock and Roll smiled at one another. "So, what do you think?"

"Of what?" Roll asked rather flustered.

"Our half-siblings, what else?"

"Very confused. There are some things about them I know Dr. Wily put into them. Needleman's design, Gemini's pride because where else would he get that pride from? And Snakeman? That doesn't sound like Dr. Light's design choices at all, it just screams Dr. Wily! And-" She started listing it down. Rock groaned and grabbed her hands.

"Roll come on, they have only woken up. I know they seem odd, but this isn't like your tv shows where everyone is 100% a bad guy or good guy. They'll develop with us, be better people with us. Dad said it himself that he wouldn't let them turn to the bad side even if Dr. Wily was spouting lies to them! Can't you stop being suspicious for one second?"

"O-of course I can. It's just-"

"It doesn't feel like it. Sis please, I want to move forward and go back to the way things were, even if there are certain changes. Can you do this, for me?"

Roll sighed and smiled at her brother with glassy eyes. "Of course, I'm sorry Rock." She continued to smile and wave at Rock, just until he was out of sight from the stairs. Then she looked back at the Wi-lights on more time before resuming cleaning.

Clean to avoid any problems, she always thought. But sometimes, there were problems she couldn't clean.

This was one of them.
